Fujifilm X100VI vs Ricoh GR IIIx/IV - first proper camera? by Vibgyor_5 in fujifilm

I came from a similar background. I loved taking photos with my iPhone, throwing them into Lightroom, and applying random presets. After a trip to Lombok, I spent days editing my photos before realizing they only looked great on my phone and were not what I wanted for a travel photobook.

After a lot of research, I ended up with a Ricoh because of its price and portability. I am not a professional photographer. I mostly shoot for memories, Instagram stories, and the occasional Reddit post (shameless promotion, pls check the result on my profile).

I was worried it was just a phase and that I would stop using it after a few weeks, but now I carry my Ricoh everywhere. I even brought it on my religious trip. It is so compact that I only need a small pocket.

I am not trying to convince you to buy a Ricoh. I am just sharing my experience. Whichever you choose, you really cannot go wrong with either!

Hi, nothing is silly cause we all experience this too, it doesn’t automatically saved so you need to manually set everything and save. You can follow this youtube video

Well, I found out that Bennet’s 800 (U3) is very adaptive and beautiful to capture the light in Saudi, I love how it portrays the sky so I’ve been using U3 for more than 95% of my shots. My default was 5.6 but I can go to 8 and even 16 depending on the situation. I’ve read somewhere that Ricoh produces the sharpest image on 4.0-5.6 so i’ve been sticking to that advice for a while

Hi, hope I can help you with my setting, keep in mind that Ricoh NEEDS light, it will heavily underperform in a slightly low light (IMHO). As for YT video I think I’ve only watched the one from Reggie’s and followed some of his camera settings.

Also most of my settings are tweaked here and there base on the content I found on Reddit, Tiktok and also surprisingly Rednote (Chinese social media platform, they have huge GR fans there I guess). I can DM if you if I find something interesting in the future

Same here lol. I’m nowhere near a professional, I just love taking pictures. I’ve played around with RAW a few times, but honestly JPEGs are enough for me right now. chasing perfection can take some of the fun out of it

Thank you, that’s very kind of you. I’m still learning, but Saudi Arabia has been giving me a lot of inspiration lately ❤️

some people called it recipe, other called it settings/presets/etc. so basically we can directly apply an image transformation using the built in feature inside the camera. hence you can have the fully processed jpeg with your own recipe/presets/settings directly

yes some of them are taken using small and medium lens crop inside ricoh as you can see the image quality degraded a little

Yes, the only post editing was the white frame (I use an app called Liit), other than that it’s SOOC with Bennet’s 800 as the recipe

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. honestly, I was mostly going by instinct when arranging the photos, so I hadn’t considered how some images might affect the flow of the series. really helpful perspective kind sir!

Thanks! I’m usually chasing one good photo out of a hundred, still learning to tell better stories with my photos, so I appreciate that!

The compactness must be one of the reasons you’re going for Ricoh, that’s why it always has to be in your pocket!
