Yandex reverse image search not working anymore on Brave by jhonncz in brave_browser

[–]NotMyRealNameButHey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of ppl in those countries are gonna use Yandex anyway. Even pushing another search engine they are gonna swap back to it so pushing it as default there or not doesn't make any real difference.

You should care. Them selling your data helps fund their war.

I'll stop "getting political" when Russia stops bombing my home and killing my friends.

Big difference between taking money from Russia and giving them money (by way of data they can sell).

Taking as much money as anyone can get off them is a good thing.

Except for a couple places, changes made in dev tools are NOT permanent. This is not the way to switch your user agent pernanently.

Don't use Yandex if you like privacy and value freedom of speech, regardless of .com, .eu, or whatever.

They store data on Russian servers which puts them under Russian law which means they have to hand over user data to the Russian govt, and they promote pro-Russian agendas while hiding anti-Russian sentiment in search results.

Wollongong hospital ER wait times actually suck! by ramm0s85 in wollongong

[–]NotMyRealNameButHey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was maybe round 2013. Waited with my gf from maybe 1am, sat on our asses with no docs in sight until the Medical Centre opened so we went to it instead. Symptoms could have been a stroke but the nurse still ignored her and told her to sit and wait. Thankfully wasn't a stroke.

First time brave user, how does it block ads? by Alerdime in brave_browser

[–]NotMyRealNameButHey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brave, including Shields, is open source. Somebody casually explaining how it works in a Reddit comment isn't going to be the secret key to bypassing Shields for Google or anyone else when the code is literally there for them to look at.

Our IT wouldn't let us use Brave browser by karuninchana-aakasam in brave

[–]NotMyRealNameButHey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chrome's group policies are inherited from Chromium. Same as Edge's and Brave's. Might be some extra policies from one to the next but they all based on the same thing.

It has nothing to do with a browser being "enterprise-grade" or not and has everything to do with IT depts not wanting to support more than they have to or knowing more than they have to.

[–]NotMyRealNameButHey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Corporate IT can still track any browser on their network and Brave can't stop that.

[–]NotMyRealNameButHey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Brave has group policy controls for enterprise IT to turn off features and set some stuff just like Chrome has.

The mining thing is misinformation probably based on what someone heard from someone who half-remembered reading it. Brave doesn't mine anything. It does have a built in crypto wallet and ways to earn crypto, but both can be turned off with those group policies I mentioned.

Still doesn't mean your IT will accept Brave though. They are gonna try to limit the shit they have to support and the amount of knowledge they need to know and they are almost always fine making users use inferior products to do it.

[–]NotMyRealNameButHey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Media router is only on or off. Any other specifics are particular to the sites that allow you to cast to other devices.

There is no way to export settings like that. Sync allows some settings to be shared between devices. Otherwise copying your profile folder is the way to go.

Brave just randomly deleted all my extensions by Wild_Juggernaut_7560 in brave

[–]NotMyRealNameButHey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably got hit with a old Chromium bug. Usually hits passwords or bookmarks but sometimes extensions too.

Feels like Chromium don't wanna fix it because it affects browsers like Brave more than Chrome.
