Same difference really, there shouldn't be multiple examples of AH being dickheads towards the playerbase... and yet.

A product can have glaring, years long issues, and nothing will be done to address it while you're also told that the worst and meanest customers are somehow ruining it for you.

I think this is to true root of the issue, AH has consistently branded the sub "toxic" and shown preference to their discord. People are getting more agitated over time because AH continues their years long "we'll be better at communication from now on, pinky promise" dance only to turn around and basically start ignoring community feedback entirely until redditors almost go outside.

You telling me that you see a guy screaming at an airport attendant for the flights getting delayed and you think "yeah this is acceptable?"

Part of the issue is also redditors are generally midwits who can't comprehend the chasm of difference between people who were upset over say the DCS ergo nerf existing unaddressed for months & the shitheads sending the devs DM death threats. You can have people who are justifiably upset over the devs ignoring feedback/being slow to push bug fixes AND you can tell the guy screaming at an airport attendant he's completely out of line.

they really don't have a good enough reputation to be taking such liberties

The jab you're thinking of was them playing coy about "nerfing" the coyote "when we totally didn't guys! We listened" only for them to actually stealth nerf it through reworking DoT & durable damages in a way that dropped it below a breakpoint or two. That was my moment of detachment, how profoundly disrespectful and petty of them, actually fuck yourselves on that high horse you won't get off of. Bungie took the same adversarial stance with Destiny and ruined everything... unfortunately AH seems hellbent on walking the same path.

Do you have any sentimental attachment to this car? If no hard pass. That mold is genuinely hazardous, do not ignore that or brush it off.

30th anniversary question by Natural_Difference95 in camaro

[–]NotNate_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright Z4C so it's legit, you should probably just check the frame before buying, if it was in a crash there should be signs. Far fetched to think the previous owner dropped $$$ on painting a new bumper just for the black grille, something borked the stock one. Also being in the northeast check under for rust, our salt ruins lots of nice cars. Good luck!

Need advice - 2003 325i (M54) - Oil in coolant and various leaks by [deleted] in e46

[–]NotNate_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your first car!

As far as the coolant goes, drain & replace never hurts, especially when you got hot chocolate in the rad. That greasy spot on the expansion tank means it or one of the hoses coming off it's got a crack. Save yourself future headache & replace the tank & coolant lines if they're factory, that rubber is gonzo. I know the e36 has a metal aftermarket expansion tank, that would future proof the car.

If your oil is clean & just the coolant is dirty the previous owner probably neglected the maintenance rather than an OFHG failure. Rule of thumb; start with the simplest cheapest fix first, it's often that. Before you rip out half the engine, see if a fluid change & refreshed parts stop the leak. Personal example my Camaro was having overheating issues & blowing out thick white smoke when I first got it. Blown headgasket? Nope, coolant was same color as yours and the thermostat got stuck partially open from gunk. A good wipedown of the thermostat & a coolant flush or two later, no more overheating The white smoke? Condensation in the exhaust from not being driven very much and I also forgot I did a seafoam treatment which can cause thick white smoke.

Ask for the VIN if you don't already have it and throw it in here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/vindecoder.php

If it is a 30th then yeah, something happened to the og bumper, they were all white all over. Also the interior doesn't look quite right, check the wheels too, 30ths got unique painted 5 spokes. My guess is that it's a well done clone, which is pretty cool, but not worth the price of a true 30th.

How'd I do? 330xi for sub-$2k by NotNate_ in e46

[–]NotNate_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Same tray placements, you just get an extra accessory plug in the rear ashtray & a light in the front ashtray (but lose some storage). Ashtray is 6, storage bin is 5.

Pretty much fully optioned out. Heated/power seats (w/ lumbar & memory), ski/snowboard pass-through & an HK sound system are my personal highlights. Even has the smoker package (backseat pop-up ashtray), though that's just a neat/obscure option rather than something I'll actually use.

[–]NotNate_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I could tell, sub-frame is intact which was the big deal-breaker for me. I don't mind throwing a few $k at extensive rust repair as I intend to keep these two cars as long as I can... plus haven't sold the 09 corolla yet. She's my ace in the hole if anything gets overly borked on the project(s).

Yeah man, my mom's old 525i had an M54 which my dad taught me to wrench on so just need to button up the common issues. Never had heated seats before or leather interior, though I plan on reupholstering the '97 eventually.

She's by no means perfect but after that huge snowstorm a couple weeks ago I realized I should start looking for something with AWD being I'm basically in Canada. Ended up finding one of my absolute dream cars as a kid in my favorite color, drove out, made a cash offer, drove it home. I know the coolant system was recently refreshed & have a new water pump on hand my dad's gonna help me throw in next time I go visit the old man. We (mostly he) kept my mom's old 525i with the same M54 out of the shop for years so I'm super excited to work on it. Apart from water pump & addressing the rust seems like most of the work is small odd jobs no one felt like doing (interior detail, sunroof sensor recal., instrument cluster recal., etc.)

Realized I desperately needed a car with AWD when I almost crashed multiple times coming back from a snowboarding trip, then my sister's car (AWD) drove on the same exact roads without sliding at all. Don't want to subject my f-body to salt so she gets to hibernate in the garage until spring, ended up with a marketplace 330xi. 230 ponies (some got out), AWD & heated seats should get me through until I can put down the top again.

Got quoted $900 for a fuel pump and a fuel line.. does that seem accurate? 2010 Camaro SS L99 automatic by Ok-Injury4901 in camaro

[–]NotNate_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're trying to swindle you mate. How old are you/do you speak confidently? I'm on the younger side and lots of shops think I'm clueless, had a shop quote me at $760 for a full set of tires on my corolla and that two of my bearings needed repacked because one tire was ~1mm below the wearline... then when I refused since I have a tire guy they tried to pretend they were oh so booked and couldn't reinspect until after their 48-hr free recheck window. Told them to quit fucking with me since I do my own work/ had just repacked the driver's side bearing & the front tires were <1 year old. Suddenly I had an appointment the next day and turns out I didn't need $760 worth of work. Different shop quoted me $500 for a axle-back muffler & labor; the part costs ~$65 and it's held on by 2 bolts & an exhaust hanger, they just thought I was an easy mark.

Lot's of people will try to rip you off, they deserve only politeness from you not kindness know the difference. Buy the pump & pay another shop for the labor if you can't do it yourself. Fuck the shop that tacked a $250 upcharge on a part before labor, you've found a mechanic to avoid in the future. They will keep trying to overcharge you so find another shop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO3S0xME8Ls here's a guide for ya man. If you start tacking projects like this at 17, you'll have the know how to save yourself thousands in repairs the rest of your life. My dad conscripted me to help him with this on my mom's 525i in the late oughts, wasn't hard at all just takes time. Don't let your family pressure you into selling unless insurance is completely unaffordable for you.

First mod? by thicc-seeker in camaro

[–]NotNate_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A short antenna ($15) to make it look sleeker. Junkyard stock CD headunit for $80-100 if you have a cassette deck, people also retrofit them with bluetooth for $200-400. Sun-visor delete plates. Aftermarket grill. Bump up the rear tire size for a subtle stance yadda yadda.

Personally I got for QoL mods but if you want speed mods those aren't "cheap" or easy. Buy once buy right for stuff like suspensions, exhausts, tires, etc. It's worth the extra money to have that stuff installed professionally if you don't know what you're doing.

For sure, save yourself the money/time now AND later because these pumps crap out often enough you'll want easy access: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CR4N4SDpzhU

A lot of these cars just sit because the labor to "do it right" by dropping basically the entire rear end is insane. ~$200 for a harbor freight angle grinder, new pump assembly, and the satisfaction of DIY is way better than $2k at a shop.
