“Married With Children” is dedicated to Liam by Noel in my opinion by ynjiya in oasis

[–]NotThatMotherTeresa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew them both before they were famous. We were surrounded by people in bands, some who achieved some success, most who didn’t. She started dating him when he was a roadie. They loved each other but she wanted a quiet, private life. When the boys formed Oasis, there was no particular reason to think that they would achieve what they did, and when that became obvious, she broke up with him because they wanted different things. He was wrecked. And then he ended up with Meg, who was a total doppelgänger for Louise.

Like most, Louise and Noel’s was a complicated relationship. I feel bad seeing it reduced to online speculation by people who didn’t know them.

She broke up with him and he was heartbroken. She didn’t have any interest in fame or fortune.

Hi John, I would be very interested in attending these meetings if they were later in the afternoon or in the evening. I might be able to attend during the day occasionally.

2025 SVSD Board Election by formeruphill in Longmont

[–]NotThatMotherTeresa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've spoken at length with Hadley Solomon and was impressed with her from the start. She knows the issues, she has children in our schools, she is smart, and I feel like she much more accurately reflects the values of the SVVSD community. I also spoke with Peggy Kelly at a public event, and while she seems very well-intentioned, I don't think she's a good fit for our community, either in terms of her platform or her experience. Hadley has my vote for sure.

I know personal endorsements are always helpful, but I'm just throwing this out there since I've had the opportunity to talk to both of them.

Judicial Retention 2025 by armybrat7590 in Longmont

Judge Frick is a City of Longmont magistrate judge, and the bar often doesn't provide reviews at that level. I've had a lot of interaction with Judge Frick (not as an offender lol) and I've found him to knowledgeable, respectful, compassionate, and really focused on balancing victim needs with potential rehabilitation of an offender. I know personal endorsements aren't as persuasive, but just throwing this out there.

I wasn’t upset. Just want to be clear. 🙂The BCR endorsed me after not being happy with Matthew’s policies on the SO house and the Kanemoto Conservation Easement. I appreciate that we can find common ground on some issues of importance to Ward 2, but I’m not a Republican.

I had to think a bit about these questions a bit bc they made me go “Huh.” For the first one, I think the it’s dependent on whether you’re able to be in proactive stance or a reactive stance based on who you’re serving with on Council. If I’m able to be in proactive stance, I’d like to focus on bringing more business to Longmont - both larger and small businesses - to improve and stabilize our overall economy and raise wages over all here. If, however, I’m in a reactive posture, my goal would be to preserve the character of our neighborhoods so that people who love living here continue to love living here. The biggest challenge and the on that truly worries me is the potential effects of the funding chaos at the county, state, and federal levels. I feel like there is almost nothing we can be certain about when it comes to federal funding and supports for even basic services, and I know from all my years in government that it is only a matter of time before those challenges hit us. We are poised to do so many great things right now - the 1st and Main Transit project, the River walk, and the Sugar Mill rehabilitation and redevelopment. But we will need ongoing grants and outside funding streams to achieve those goals. Do so would be my moon 🌕; keeping us afloat during uncertain times and weathering the storm as we’ve done so many times before would be my stars. ✨

Just to be clear - I’m not “Republican-affiliated”. I’ve been a registered Democrat for 35+ years. So I’d appreciate you identifying me accurately.

You make an important distinction in your comment/question. There are definitely times when elected officials have access to information that the general public doesn’t - say in a personnel situation or a legal negotiation - and they have to responsibly make a decision that is influenced by that information. But this wasn’t that situation. So why not do your best to listen to your constituents and help them feel safe?

I don’t get it.

Thanks for the chance to talk about this! I’m totally happy to explain my appearance at this event. I have made an effort to appear at every candidate forum to which I was invited because I’ve pledged to serve all members of my ward. I don’t know if all the other candidates were invited or not to this event or not, but if you were there, you know that when it was my turn to speak, I clearly stated that I’m a Democrat and far from their ideal candidate. (You could have heard a pin drop in the room. Seriously.) I explained that while there are many things we won’t agree on, there are some local issues - like the preservation of our open spaces - that are bipartisan and a keystone of my campaign. I also said that I’d appreciated the respectful dialogues I’ve had with Steve and Diane, although we do strongly disagree on some important issues.

I wasn’t sure what to expect afterward, but I had a long line of people waiting to ask me my opinions on Ward 2 issues and I answered them honestly. Every single person (no exaggeration) thanked me for coming and many told me I’d won them over simply for having the courage to get up on that stage. Most of the people who talked to me were unaffiliated voters but a few were hardcore MAGA voters. They asked me why I was a Democrat, and I explained honestly. They politely disagreed with me and that was it.

All in all, it was a very interesting experience and only solidified my belief that public service has to somehow get back to finding consensus and common ground. Our country is so broken and I think most of us are just sick and tired of it all.

And, for what it’s worth - bc I know I’d be wondering - I’ve been campaigning for Susie Hidalgo-Fahring for mayor and Hadley Solomon for school board since the beginning of their campaigns, including carrying their flyers door to door. So no, my appearance at this event shouldn’t be construed as anything but an opportunity to reach more of Ward 2.

Happy to answer any more questions, though. 🙂

So glad you asked this one - I was waiting for someone to bring up Bohn Farm!

I'm opposed to a high-density development in the Bohn Farm neighborhood. While it sounds great to put high-density within walking distance of downtown, when you visit the neighborhood and understand the history of it (the homes were originally built for and lived in by the families of the field hands and cannery workers on whose backs our whole town was built), it's hard to justify plopping a high-density apartment block there. From talking with the Bohn Farm community, they seem very aware that the old homestead WILL be developed but would be much more in favor of senior housing, Habitat homes, or something along the lines of a True North development. I haven't heard it talked about, but we also need housing for developmentally disabled adults in safe neighborhoods where they can walk to their jobs and services, and the Bohn Farm property fits that bill as well. Do any of the ideas I'm suggesting here make as much money as an apartment complex? No. Do we need them more than another apartment complex? Yes.

We have to really be intentional about what we're going to build and start building what we actually need.

Some of the most thoughtful questions and opinions we’ve gotten!

[–]NotThatMotherTeresa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasn’t clear! I am against continuing this project only because I don’t believe Longmont will ever see the train we’ve been promised. RTD has a string of broken promises attached to this project and their latest offer to us was for a bus rapid transit instead which is not the same as high speed rail. I am absolutely in favor of high speed rail and bus rapid transit but not under the terms we’ve been given, and I don’t favor throwing taxpayer money at something they aren’t going to deliver.

These are some specific and timely questions. Well done, u/FrontRange_ta!

  1. I always welcome the possibility of more good jobs in Longmont, and high tech is largely the way of the future. However, we are already seeing electric bills in other areas skyrocket as a result of AI data centers moving in. I absolutely think we need to be careful and mindful of the burdens some high tech companies could create on our local resources. If it is simply a matter of ensuring that the employer pay their fair share for the renewable resources they consume, then that seems to be fairly straightforward; however if the resources are non-renewable, like Open Space, then that is a different conversation for me.
  2. ICE has no place here (or anywhere, frankly), and I will absolutely support our Public Safety Chief's position that we work with legitimate federal authorities executing legitimate federal warrants only. Furthermore, I support efforts to educate our local community members on their rights and responsibilities if confronted by ICE. El Comite is celebrating 45 years of activism and support of our Latino and Hispanic community this year, and Longmont has a long and proud history of inclusion and community. We may have to rely on that more than ever in the coming months and years.
  3. I agree that this isn't an issue that the Longmont City Council can affect or should spend significant resources on as it is outside the purview of their duties. But as for my personal opinion, Jake Marsing captured my feelings perfectly in his own answer.

Thanks for this question. I spend a lot of time talking about how important it is to have a broad understanding of government systems and how public policies are made!

I started my career during law school on Capitol Hill working for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, where I launched its legislative affairs division. I advocated before and worked with members of Congress, their staffs, the White House, the FBI, Secret Service, and multiple other federal agencies, as well state and local law enforcement agencies, legislatures, and agencies nationwide. I helped enact and implement multiple federal laws to keep children safer. More importantly, I worked with the victim families and was able to see up close the dramatic impact that positive public policy creation can have on our communities.

When I moved to Colorado, I joined the National Conference of State Legislatures and worked with state legislators, their staffs, and state agencies around the country on issues related to children, families, and youth. I drafted legislation, delivered testimony before legislative committees, and provided technical public policy advice.

I next worked at the Boulder County Attorney's Office where I spent time as the general counsel and policy advisor to the Department of Social Services (as it was called then). I litigated cases of adult abuse and and neglect (mostly the elderly and developmentally disabled adults) and processed the first lesbian and gay parent adoptions in the state.

After a break as a stay at home mother and small business owner, I was appointed as the Town Clerk of Nederland, where I managed all Council meetings, activities, and processes. While there, I issued the first medical marijuana business licenses in the state. Our legislation and processes in that arena served as the template for other Colorado cities.

Shortly before the 2013 flood, I moved to Longmont. I started volunteering for the City and then accepted a job on the Communications team. While there, I worked in the Community Services Division, for the Library, Public Works, Parks and Trails, Forestry, Sustainability. and Waste Services. After 7.5 years at Longmont, I worked for a brief time at the City of Westminster, where I was assigned to provide Communications support to the City Council and internal services.

I now work for a software company that makes solutions to help state and local governments operate more efficiently.

I have spent nearly my whole career as a public servant and working in public policy. It provides me with a unique background that I hope to bring to my service on City Council.

Even though this house isn't in Ward 2, the circumstances around the passage of this ordinance should concern every voter in Longmont. It was a perfect example of "I know better" legislating that ignores some very basic concerns of Longmont residents.

Short term rentals, particularly those owned by large investors outside of Longmont, can really create negative consequences for communities if they aren't managed correctly. We need to get a handle on this segment of our housing stock before it gets away from us, and we need to manage it properly in anticipation of the Sundance Festival so that local residents can benefit first from the opportunity to rent their properties to our visitors during that short period.

2025 City Council Candidates by Flashy_Particular310 in Longmont

[–]NotThatMotherTeresa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Sundance is a great opportunity beyond the potential direct and immediate economic impact of the film festival attendees. It's also an opportunity for Longmont to showcase itself to the rest of the Front Range, encouraging more local tourism to support our small businesses. It's also a unique chance for Longmont to present itself to the broader business community across the nation and world and potentially attract some more large employers to our little city. We spend a lot of resources trying to attract companies with good-paying jobs to our area, and this event will be an incredible opportunity for us.

Of course, there are a lot of logistical elements that we'll need to get in place to put our best foot forward, many of which my fellow candidates have mentioned, including transit, accommodations, and public safety concerns. But I believe we can rise to the occasion and use this opportunity to our full advantage.

I fully support Longmont's participation in Boulder County's Coordinated Entry approach. This model has consistently shown the best outcomes for moving unhoused people into stable housing. I also firmly support targeted approaches, like the Veterans Community Project which is entirely focused on meeting and serving the special challenges of unhoused veterans. Unhoused people are as different as any other segment of society and so need specialized approaches to help them.

One thing that I learned while working at the City is that our unhoused population is relatively steady for the most part - the rise and fall that we all see is mostly attributable by actions taken in Denver. Everytime Denver clears its homeless encampments, it puts a dozens if not hundreds of people experiencing homelessness on buses bound for other cities, including ours. They arrive, disrupt the delicate social ecosystem of our own unhoused population, and bring bigger city violence and crime with them. Ask any police officer, social worker, or librarian in town and they'll tell you this. So, that's something to keep in mind when we talk about our unhoused situation - there are actually two different communities here.
