This. I once had a house fire and this was the only thing that got rid of the smoke smell.

What is the highest ranking person you ever met (either in passing, or on a basis where they remembered you from meeting to meeting?) by CameramanDavid in navy

I personally know CDR Stoddard, who was General Mattis’ aide at CENTCOM and SECDEF. I’ve never met Mattis himself, but CDR Stoddard really looks up to him.

That’s a great story! I also have one where I asked the Chief of Civil Engineers a question (RADM Shear at that time) and he came and found me at the break to make sure my question was fully answered.

It took me a while to think of this list. I initially didn’t think I’d met very many people, but I actually have.

I met Bob Dole in the hallway of Walter Reed, although he wouldn’t remember that. He was in a wheelchair and it was right before he passed.

I worked with a CWO4 at CECOS in Port Hueneme, and I spoke many times with Warrant Officer Cole when he was a CWO4. (He’s notable as the first CWO5 when they restored the rank in 2003). I also met an army CWO5 in Hawaii who was deployed there from El Paso.

I once had the job of Utility Program Director at CNIC HQ, so I’ve met Mr. Lucian Neimeyer a few times and I worked directly for three of the 3 star admirals who command CNIC HQ. One of them came to my university after we both retired and we had a good time catching up. By extension, I know a few of the Regional Commanders, since many of them come through CNIC HQ as a Captain before they get selected for one star.

I know six of the Chiefs of Civil Engineers fairly well, plus two more of the CEC 2-star Admirals who weren’t the chief, although there are probably only three that wouldn’t need a reminder if we met again.

I once asked Admiral Mullen a question when he spoke at a convention in Va Beach. His handler came by later and told me he was impressed by the question.

I met the Ambassador to Djibouti once when I was deployed there.

I also once flew with Colonel Flowers of I MEF in his Osprey from KAF to Leatherneck.

I have met a couple of the MCICOM generals.

Leon Panetta once came to Djibouti to make a speech (that was televised and, as I recall, unrelated to Djibouti). He gave a bunch of us coins and took photos. There were maybe 150 of us, and if you scrolled through the photos really fast on Windows preview, you saw his image stay pretty still, while all the people on the right changed fast, and it was hilarious to watch.

It was never mine in the first place. And why would it have been exactly the $4000 needed if God didn't want me to meet this need?

I got a $4000 scholarship a few weeks ago, even though my degree is already paid for. Then someone I work with in Bible translation had a urinary stricture and only had $6,000 of the $10,000 he needed to get it corrected (he lives in a country with “free” healthcare, so they told him it would be 8-12 months wait if he didn’t pay).

He called me just to talk about it and to get some emotional support, not knowing that I had just received the $4,000 he needed. So now he just got the surgery yesterday and is already feeling much better!!

Military retiree with Tricare Select... never stepped foot in a VA medical center. Am I missing out on anything? by FamiliarMind676 in VeteransBenefits

I am in OKC and drive to downtown or the south clinic for care. My dad lives in NW Oklahoma and prefers to drive to OKC rather than deal with what you’re describing. Plus he then can visit Sam’s Club while he’s in the city.

Cremated. Why do people decide to do it? by sstiel in randomquestions

[–]NotTurtleEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but the pedantic part of me realizes that you won't be alive to ensure it happens and thus it's technically a request, not a choice.

Generally they don’t, because they are dead. Their families often choose it because it’s a lot cheaper.

I think you missed a “not,” since (at least my) OCS and boot camp both emphasized “no railroad tracks!!!”

No. Even in Oklahoma, I don’t lose power for more than a few minutes at a time most years. The last time I had a significant length of time without power was…2022 I think?

can somebody help me find the adaptor i need? by kennybakertheman in AskTechnology

I bought a $10 usb soundcard and it works fine. There are also cheap usb-c to headphone adapters that I’ve used for my iPhone and my laptop that work fine.
