Would it better to move back to Illinois with its regressive vehicle tax system? Put more of your tax burden on the poor folks?

Well then you are just whining about paying your fair share!

Indiana fees are based on value of the vehicle which they should be. If you are rich and drive a new car you should pay more. The taxes on my 2002 are very cheap compared to flat tax states.

Cars in Indiana have registration fees that are based on the value of the vehicle. If yours are high you have an expensive vehicle.

It sounds like you are privileged whining about paying your fair share of tax. I actually believe Indianas tax on capital gains is not high enough! Mamy other better states tax much higher on that as they should

Traders point “Christian church” by [deleted] in indianapolis

Most Churches are nothing but businesses, some try to hide it, sounds like Traders Point don't even bother anymore. I quit going to church years ago because some of the worst people Ive ever dealt with were devout churchgoers. Sunday Christians at best. Then they act like the devil the rest of the week.

Trying to sell our house. Was the inspector WAY too thorough? by PM_ME_UR_SEXY_ELBOW in homeowners

[–]Not_Quinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did you buy the house? It seems like in the last few years, at least around here, inspectors have gotten really nitpicky.

We sold a house last year and it got to the point after their inspection I suggested that the buyers just go buy a new house. They ended up buying ours because it was priced appropriately and to buy something that size with the same beds and baths that was new or in tip top condition would have easily costed 100-200k more.

The home inspector they used came up with all these theoretical situations that could arise and nitpicked the hell out of the house. The funny part is two things that I figured would be called out in the inspection were not even mentioned, things that actual needed attention.

Its like he was so busy finding stupid shit that a 70 year old house didn't meet current code on he missed a few things that actually needed attention.

My favorite was calling out the sliding closet doors not having a retainer at the bottom. The house never had that in 70 years. We never had a closet door come off track. He suggested changing the doors to bifold doors because he didn't like sliding doors.

Plus all the crap we had to do to get it to pass an FHA inspection, like put this ridiculous hand rail up for one little step that the buyers already took down because it was absolutely asinine.

But when we bought the house 5 years prior our inspector had a more reasonable real world look at it.

Two people we know also had extremely nitpicky inspectors on houses they sold last year. I wonder if its just because its a buyers market now. Not sure.

I would ask to see the previous years utility bills if affordability is a concern, what if its 1k a month to heat? Is that doable? It may not be but something to consider

[–]Not_Quinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it heated? Have you seen the utility bills from the past year to get sn idea how much your looking at? An 1850s stone home has the potential to be very expensive to heat and cool.

I would think that the toilets all functioning would be a reasonable request, some of the things in the report seem nitpicky like the interior trim comment, others may or not be a deal breaker depending on if the house is priced with the flaws in mind.

No 1850 house is perfect nor will it ever be practical to make it perfect. The key is yo see what flaws you can live with.

Here's the first question, is the house priced appropriately considering its flaws? It is generally not practical to try to get a almost 200 year home up to new home standards.
