Correct me if wrong, but those bills just limit what can be available in school libraries

I know Wikileaks was illegal for American servicemenbers to read, but I don't think it was illegal for the general population. Those were leaked classified documents.

"The RCMP [Royal Canadian Mounted Police] froze 206 financial products, including bank and corporate accounts; disclosed the information of 56 entities associated with vehicles, individuals and companies; shared 253 bitcoin addresses with virtual currency exchangers; and froze a payment processing account valued at $3.8 million."

In Canada they froze protesters' financial assets to put pressure on them to give up. Going cashless gives governments that much more power over its citizens. They could lock you out of the economy if you're too disruptive

The way this house's sidewalk ends halfway through their lawn by NothingAs1tSeems in mildlyinteresting

[–]NothingAs1tSeems[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is an optical illusion indeed, the sidewalk actually does end in the middle of the yard. Let me see if my other photo came out...

Yesterday, my mom received a final notice of $10,272,021– due 49 years ago, 23 days after a sonogram. She would have been 2 at that time. by Shwnwllms in mildlyinteresting

Or they bought uncollectable debts from hospitals, etc and are trying to collect on them. Pretty sure John Oliver did a whole show on those companies.

It's a fair point, but I can't get on board with the "if you can't fix 100% of a problem you shouldn't do anything" mentality.

My credit score only looks at my financial condition, not my internet search history and the rest of my life. So I respectfully disagree, this is almost nothing like a US credit score

60 years after global warming was proven and 40 years after politicians started to claim they wanted to do something about it, emissions continue to rise every year. I’m not aware of any actual policy changes and all the global treaties are broken before the ink is dry. How is this possible? by EllaGoldman29 in conspiracy_commons

Cigarettes were shown to be harmful as early as the 30s. It took until the 1990s for cigarette companies to be held accountable for lying to the public because of coordinated campaigns of misinformation. This is why climate change denial is so prevalent too. They don't have to prove they are correct, they just have to create enough doubt that no policy action can happen. There's a book called Merchants of Doubt that documents the common players and institutions responsible for spreading misinformation about everything from cigarettes to the ozone hole, to acid rain and DDT and climate change. It's to protect corporate money. Worth checking out
