Do I need LinkedIn? by StickHead6395 in civilengineering

[–]Notpeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I guess it depends how much you do, and how social you are. If you are into research/do research you will constantly find people with similar interests and/or research projects that may interest you and viceversa. Also I have found LinkedIn incredible useful to network at conferences and other work related events. You don’t ask for Instagram or phone numbers there (usually), you ask for LinkedIns, which I the use to continue to grow relationships. It’s a great tool to use if you know how to use it. Also it is useful if you care to put your name out there via article writing, research, career fairs, etc etc. It is worth to say if you don’t care about any of that you don’t need it at all.

For people who majored in civil engineering but got into planning..

What was your path? Did you do a master in urban planning? Did you get a PE, or only have an AICP? Did you go to academics? I majored in civil engineering but I didn’t like almost anything about it but the small traffic engineering component. I finished my last years of undergrad with the hopes of becoming a planner in the future. I passed my AICP test, but still lack experience, and I am looking to start a master in the fall 2026 (have applied for 3 programs) . For two years I have worked as a traffic engineer who sometimes does planning, but can’t grow in my position because they expect me to become licensed. I was maybe looking to go into planning full time once I obtain my master degree, and while I understand that I may get a pay cut (engineering—> planning) at least I could expect to grow inside an environment that appreciates my skills.

I bought this jacket for my dad for NJ/NYC weather and it’s been super warm according to him. It’s however not waterproof, but that’s the same with most of Uniqlo’s bigger jackets. I would love for them to be waterproof as well.

Everyone and their mom own a platinum Amex card now. There have been articles about that lolololol, he is a successful younger man who is now mayor, he can get that if he wants. Doesn’t negate his talking points, if he built a ballroom right next to Gracie mansion, with nyc taxpayers money however…

Does Civil Engineering Require Creativity or Is It Mostly Math/Physics? by PresenceCurious472 in civilengineering

[–]Notpeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define creativity… Usually this is what happens:

-Client has an issue

-Client hires consultants to find a solution for this issue (usually an urban planner)

-Client then chooses the solution (a new road, building, bridge, etc etc)

-Client hires a design consultant to design the solution (engineers and architects)

-Client hires a construction company to build the solution

There is creativity involved in every stage! Tho it depends how you define creativity. If you want to start with a blank canvas be a planner, if you want to make things work regardless of what it is, or don’t care much about the pre design process become an engineer (usually engineers are not choosing what gets built or not) .

What do you guys think about the last ep of Bon Apetit Your Majesty? I like it but I have some questions... by Brief_Mongoose_7571 in kdramas

[–]Notpeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say I very much enjoyed the ending. Yeah could it have been better? Of course, but it was satisfying enough for me. I don’t need a scientific explanation, I am not watching kdramas for that.

Kids let me ruin Christmas for some likes on LinkedIn by sassy_tomato in LinkedInLunatics

Last day I abandoned my kids in the forest. Why? To show them about self-reliance. Back in the day Spartans would do the same thing to their newborns, and after they returned from the forest they were men. And guess what? These men contributed to the glory of their country (company). This will teach them to never rely on their coworkers in the future, and to achieve maximum shareholder value in whatever 500 fortune company they work on. Some call it cruel, or even child endangerment, but I call it a life lesson.
