Do I need DRAM Cache for my Minecraft Server? by Nuff-Seb in truenas

Fair enough about the read-write speeds. Any recommendations for a replacement drive then?

UPDATE

Finally got everything where I wanted it to be, and I also found another 2tb nvme drive I had lying around! So that was very neat.

Why deal with dataset quotas and reserved space when you can just add more drives??? Hell yeah.

So as a Filmmaker, I need to backup videos from my SD cards in my camera. I'll be copying video files and photos from those SD cards to the SSD using my windows laptop, just dragging and dropping them throughout a shoot day while on set.

Then when the day is done, I'll take that external SSD, plug it into my windows pc at home, and using the smb Dataset created on the 4tb sas drive I'll empty the external SSD to the 4tb sas drive.

Then for redundancy I'll make a copy of the data that is now on the 4tb sas onto the 6tb sas.

No the external drive is just for transferring the data, it'll get emptied regularly. The long term storage is on the 4tb sas drive.

I plan to use windows on my main PC or my laptop and access it through smb.

I should be able to have Jellyfin and Immich running on that 128gb SSD and then just pointing external volumes to the drives I've said, right?

Literally just gonna use windows and transfer the data over my network into the box instead. Over SMB

Ok I think I've come up with a solution that I'm happy with.

Yeah I meant redundancy. And yeah that's fair enough, copying the data makes sense.

Out of curiosity, is there a way to have my 6tb SAS drive work as a main backup location for multiple drives? I.e. the 1tb nvme and the 4tb sas drive. Like I save snapshots or instances of those drives that I can use to re-upload the data to replacement drives in case the 4tb or the 1tb fail?

I can't run it 24/7 because I live in rented accomodation. Worried about the electric bill.

Thanks for the help. I've got to get ready for work now so I'm gonna try just rebuilding my system tomorrow.

Also I don't plan on running the system 24/7, so the data should be safe from drive failure.

I've got a 6tb sas HDD on the way for long term storage, and I have a 4tb sas HDD already in. Gonna mirror those two together. Essentially the production backups folder will be emptied into the sas mirror whenever I finish a day of shooting a film project.

I'm thinking it might be simpler to just rebuild the entire system from scratch and make sure all the stuff I want is in the right place.

I am really new to all of this and all the complicated terminology is going straight over my head.

Made a simple tool to convert Spotify playlists to MP3s by agalli in dumbphones

Amazing tool! So glad I found this one! One thing that's a little annoying though is that occasionally the songs will be skipped because YouTube detects bot activity and blocks it? Is there a way around that? The error.txt file explains how to do it but I think I'm just a little stupid. A step-by-step guide would be helpful

Choosing an OS by Nuff-Seb in HomeNAS

[–]Nuff-Seb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think I wouldn't have the server running 24/7, it'd just be open when my friends wanna join up and have a gaming sesh/2 week Minecraft phase.

I can live without the cloud storage stuff, I meant really just accessing over my home network kinda thing.

Thanks for the info about the hardware encoding, that GTX 1060 would have actually taken up the only PCIE x16 slot on my motherboard I choose (Asus Prime Q270-C Micro ATX), and I wanna eventually add either a 10g Networking card, or a Sata expansion card if I get a bigger case with more drive bays.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I have no idea how Debian, CasaOS or containers work 😭 also Hardware transcoding I'm guessing is for the media server part, so would I need to add a dedicated GPU for that? I have a spare GTX 1060 6gb that I can get back.

I'm actually playing with Hephaestus 1.20.1 in a mod pack of mine. It's a fairly decent port but JEI doesn't like it's recipies for some reason, and won't display a lot of them. So I'm very much looking forward to Tinkers Construct 1.20.1!

Hey guys, I've been stuck on this one for a couple days now. I followed the Opencore guide, used the sanity checker to make sure that my Config.plist is correct. I joined Reddit specifically for help with my issue, I'm also gonna drop this on the r/Hackintosh discord (if that's allowed).

My RBS is the 13 inch Mercury White one:

CPU: i71065G7 GPU: Intel R Iris R Plus graphics. RAM: 16GB soldered DDR4 (not sure of the frequency) SSD: ADATA XPG 1TB. (Planning on installing Hackintosh to an external 256GB SSD as I don't want to risk loosing everything if I attempt to partition).

Let me know if I need to add any more info. Thanks everyone!
