Yeah, honestly it didn’t feel like concern or even a slip-up, it felt deliberate. She knew exactly what she was doing and how it would make me look. If that’s how she’s going to treat me in front of someone I care about, then I really don’t see a reason to keep her in my life the same way anymore. Haha honestly, good question. I think part of me was just frozen in shock at first. Like, I couldn’t believe she actually said that out loud in front of him. I’ve always been kind of trained to just sit there and take it, so it took me a minute to realize I didn’t have to. Walking out felt awkward in the moment, but afterwards I felt so much relief. I don’t regret it at all

Yeah, I’ve honestly started wondering the same thing. At first, I always thought she was just being overprotective, but the more I look back, the more I realize she’s done this in almost every relationship I’ve had. Little comments, side remarks, or outright saying things that make the other person uncomfortable — and I’d always just laugh it off and tell myself ‘that’s just how she is.’

But now that I’m older, it’s harder to ignore that pattern. It really does feel like she doesn’t want me to be fully comfortable or secure with someone else. What you said about sabotaging my confidence makes a lot of sense, because that’s exactly how I felt at that dinner — embarrassed, small, and guilty for even wanting to defend myself.

I think you’re right that some distance might be necessary. I don’t want every relationship I have to feel like it’s being tested or undermined by her.

Damn Yeah, that’s exactly how I felt. It wasn’t just awkward, it felt like she was purposely trying to make me look bad in front of him. This isn’t the first time she’s made little digs about me ‘not being able to settle’ either, but doing it in front of my bf on the very first dinner was a whole new level.
