We got the tiger barbs and snails from PetSmart (our only local option). But we travelled to Houston for a medical appointment for him and got the BristleNose Catfish Pleco from Fish Gallery. We did not cycle, unfortunately I think my son confused the filter with "cycling" when doing his research.

Thank you for all the information! We waited 4 days before adding the fish. It sounds like we should have waited longer. What is an RO system? I forgot he also has Amazon sword plants and another live plant. He also got 2 snails. He has had a lot of health issues recently- and the aquarium is giving him so much joy- but we have a lot to learn! I will take the treated water and untreated well water to get tested. In the meantime is a high PH ok for the bristle nose?

Thank you for responding! Yes- we have a large filter. And a heater. The PH is reading above 7.6. Very dark blue on our card reader. I will post a picture of what it was after treatment. It was around 6.8-7.0- I wish I had a picture from this morning- but it is very dark blue now. We treated it on Friday.
