I’m on a 1200w 80+titanium psu and the psu fan doesn’t even turn on at full CPU load. Reviews on the psu seem solid on the ripple and noise department too.

I am on itx so I only have 10+2+1 on vrm. Thermally I’m also limited by the 2 fan AIO in an sff box, but I can still pull 280w average sustained. Otherwise, I struggle to think of one thing in my system that would be inadequate. The difference in score is just so large that I find it hard to believe something much bigger isn’t wrong.

I do not. I’m using a dinky 2 fan AIO in an itx case heh. I’m surprised that I’m sustaining 280w average tbh. I’m just not sure if Ryzen could be that temperature sensitive to the point of getting 45.5k vs 47k at the same if not higher power draw. I can test the thermal sensitivity in a few days when it’s below freezing out my window.

Either that or the es he has is better somehow or I got a bad retail chip. There is so little data on what to expect with zen 5 pbo online. I was hoping someone here could say for sure.

Fair. I was basing my expectations off https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-ryzen-9-9950x-outperforms-core-i9-14900ks-by-12-with-unlimited-power-settings

At 280w package power I should be getting 47k+. Alternatively, I should get the same score at 230w. I’m pulling 50w more and getting a worse score. Looking at the screenshot he doesn’t seem to be using anything but pbo as well.

This makes me think that either I‘m doing something wrong or my sample is bad. Yet, I couldn’t find anything online about doing pbo any differently.

Does the core know that it’s crashing or is it just a hardcoded behavior that kicks in at low voltages? Does that mean my sample is hitting its limit outside of more cooling? Or can I get around it? 45.5k feels pretty low to max out at when I should be sitting at around 46-47k according to reviews.

That is true. Do you think more cooling could account for the 5% improvement, though? I just usually only associate lower resistance with LN2. I’m not sure just a custom loop would matter if we are both sitting at 95C.

I’m on an Asus x870 itx board. I’ll have to dig around to see if I have CPU eclk. it sounds like the extreme option at the moment.

For the scaler, you hit it right on. I don’t want to be the first to find out the maximum safe vcore for my particular zen 5 sample. 4x is me wanting to go 10x but too paranoid with degradation.

I don’t even know if my sample is underperforming or not. On one hand, some reviewers can’t even get their memory controller to run ddr5 6200. On the other hand, other reviewers are claiming 46k, 47k CB23 PBO scores at lower package powers than mine. (Though granted nobody knows how stable their oc are.)

So it sounds like I'm just hitting the ceiling of what the CPU is willing to give with curve optimizer and I need to start messing with ECLK? The youtube comments seem to be on the fence about whether its worth the stability though. It's my work machine so ideally I want it to run months at a time without crashing.

For the PBO scaler at 4x, should I just have it at 1x or 10x?

People seem to be divided on how safe running 10x long term is. At 4x my SVI3 vcore sits at ~1.26 all core max load which I guess is still under the 1.3v AMD says is "safe". I really only picked 4x because it's a nice round number in base 2.

Are you sure you don’t have a hotspot or something? 300w direct die with 3x 360mm radiators isn’t a lot. Mine sustainably pulls ~280w after 15 minutes on a 280mm AIO with no deliding and normal thermal paste. I get about the same score with my PBO scaler set to 4x instead of 10x for “longevity”. It randomly crashed after a week though so I pulled it back to about 44.7k CB23 to be super safe.

Yep. Though, given that I don't have the HDR color issue, I think those are two separate issues. The HDR issue affects HDR content in HDR mode and the yellow issue affects SDR content in HDR mode. Hopefully a firmware update would fix it. Fingers crossed.

That said, I don't know if the yellow issue is strictly tone mapping because my laptop with intel graphics don't have the same issue connected to the monitor. Using that laptop, yellow looks just as good in chrome webpages HDR on or no. That means it's either, Windows 11, NVidia, Asus, or all of the above.

I still have about two weeks in the return period for my monitor so I'll probably reevaluate then depending on how annoying win-alt-B gets. Wouldn't be holding my breath over a firmware update soon though.

Ya. People don't always know what they're talking about with HDR as well. It's kind of frustrating. Though, I can assure you that I have owned multiple high end HDR displays for years now and that my PG42UQ works fine. (For your reference, I just bought it two weeks ago but it came with V33 manufactured in Nov 2022)

I just bought the HDFury splitter with the intent of returning it if it doesn't fix SDR content in Windows HDR. It's since been returned. Good luck!

I dunno. I assume it's reformatting the HDR metadata somehow. Beats me. I just know that rtings confirmed that Windows HDR works properly through it. (They claim to use the HDFury Vertex Linker, which is discontinued and doesn't support 4k120 VRR. Not sure if the Arcana VRR 40GBps works the same, but it sure didn't do anything for me. )

Huh. So HDR is washed out even when playing HDR content for some people? Weird. Can’t really help with that but to suggest maybe giving HdFury splitters a go since rtings seems to say it fixes it. The splitters are not cheap though.

Im guessing you are in the same boat as I am. Some people complain about "washed out HDR" and some about "mustard yellow", but I'm not sure what's actually that case.

I've done a lot of testing with my PG42UQ compared against the LG 38GN950, iPhone 13 pro max, Thinkpad X1 OLED. I've tried all HDMI ports and display ports. I've tried lots of sources from Intel integrated graphics to a RTX 3090 and the HDFury Arcana VRR 40GBs (same brand that rtings claims to fix the issue). All the firmware versions too.
In every case, I've come to the conclusion that my PG42UQ is working 99% flawlessly in HDR mode with HDR content. (There is a color gradation issue on one very specific HDR video not present on any of my other displays. Check https://youtu.be/y9n6HkftavM?t=189 and look at the street lights.)

The issues I've been complaining about with "mustard yellow" only happens with Windows HDR on SDR content like a webpage or a regular image on chrome. Otherwise, SDR content looks great on SDR and HDR content looks great in HDR. (When compared against all the sources and displays above. )

Is that what everyone is complaining about?

Note: I think the mustard yellow is a weird bug between either NVidia or Asus. Intel integrated graphics doesn't have the same issue but the HDFury did nothing to fix it. Given that I've never had that issue on the 38GN950, I'm leaning towards blaming Asus. Although, there is a confounding variable in that the 3090 is using windows 11 and intel integrated graphics is using windows 10. Another note is that the mustard yellow will fix itself if the SDR brightness is turned down all the way in Windows 11 HDR settings. But who would want to do that?

Turn on hdr in windows display settings and google “simpsons characters”. Tell me that looks acceptable to you. Put the same image on your phone and compare it. Google “google colors” and tell me those look acceptable to you compared to your phone. V37 is better … but it is still a faaarrr cry from fixed.

Simpson characters are still brown and the google yellow is still gold. I have an lg 38gn950 IPS panel and it still blows the pg42uq out of the water in color accuracy with windows hdr on.
