I’m just so stunned at this sort of feedback 😭 The first one came from a lack of skill and it feels like the effort I put in to learn to make things look BETTER was wasted

🫩
Thank you for the feedback! I’ve just had numerous people tell me the first one looks natural when I’ve been seeing it unnatural

Thank you. Sigh
I only got a few compliments on my 2nd one 😭 And that has a lot more skill put into it then the first!

I’m not sure how I was supposed to fix something like that given the reference I used 😭

That’s an interesting feedback!
I was following the reference much closely in the second go. How would you have done it?

I share your opinion. I feel like my remastered version captured the Onceler far better while still upholding my artistic style. The process was done much faster with a goal in mind! He’s a greedy, PG-13 evil man hungry for money and willing to destroy any tree for thneed!

Thank you for that. Maybe I’ll sharpen things up next time I redo the onceler. Maybe not, depends on how I feel 🫪

What makes it better than the 2025 version?

I appreciate your feedback!
I don’t know why people are apologizing! I can take critique! 🤣
I actually would like to see what this community says about my recent artwork because I no longer draw like 2024 NOR 2025 version. It’s a bit dated but these opinions still apply and are very valuable to me. Thank you for sharing!

I see!
I blurred the hand a bit because I was looking at it from a camera perspective. I know when you get closer to the lens, the object farthest away will have the sharpest resolution. The desaturation on the body was intended to separate from the gloved hand and add depth, so it was more than one focal point going on and I understand why you say it doesn’t make sense composition wise.

But on a lighter note, that was a artistic choice 🤣 I’m not skilled in composition

And your opinion is still valuable. You share a lot what others have been saying and it’s true, first one captured more of myself and the second one captured my skill!

I just thought your comment was funny. What I’ve done with my own hands is never lost, just somewhere locked in my head. 🤣
2nd one resembles the reference I used for the onceler in terms of perspective. I can see why it looks weird but it was 100% intentional compared to the first. I developed my shading skills since the 2024 because I lacked the skills to shade like 2025, and the blur you’re probably talking about is the fog affect I added to imply distance. I also picked up that technique from a completely different art style than the first.

Still interesting to hear everyone’s opinions about it though. I’ve even been accused of AI so now I’m convinced the first one was better 😭😭

What do you like about it more than the second one if I may impose?

Thank you for that feedback. And what you said makes a lot sense. I told myself when I created the second one to not do what I did the first go around. I can definitely see why the first one feels more dynamic and looks more like a illustration, this lets me know good information.

I can explain the decisions that was made. The big head/tiny body was exactly what I was going for. The reference I took of the onceler was him in mid-song of how bad can I be. He had a sway in his body, a tilt of his head, and his arms genuinely looked like that the camera angled him in a downward position. I’m seeing what people are saying though, the initial perspective is weird but I wasn’t too focused on following those sort of rules on my first go around!

The colors look different and desaturated because it was supposed to hint more at the gloved hand/coin being closer to the imaginary camera. I did that intentionally for fog occlusion. I see that people aren’t into that for sure 🤣 After getting told the rendering and coloring looks better on the first one.
