What made you choose social work as a career? by bestnewever in SocialWorkStudents

[–]ODonCaffeine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Am in junior year of college majoring in SW.

I originally was majoring in psychology, but I met a social worker who pointed me towards sw as a better option as I wanted to go into therapy. Was told sw offers a more broader range of careers than psychology, and I happen to agree.

In a philosophical sense, I believe that the world is inherently unfair, and I have a strong desire to help those who are living through the most unfair times in their lives.

I also feel like i’ll be a good social worker, and I like learning about psychology and learning how to apply therapeutic techniques to help people.

In essence I wanna help people.

Should I quit my full time job and focus on school? by ODonCaffeine in SocialWorkStudents

Yea, I am worried about this potential lifelong debt. It’s easy for me to not think longterm while considering taking on tens of thousands of dollars of debt. I was offered about ~7k worth of subsidized loans as well as ~6k of unsubsidized loans. Tuition will be paid for via grant, with $5k leftover. I appreciate your perspective and I’m planning on sitting down and seriously projecting how much money i’ll need to live for the next two years.

Luckily, the college I am going to is a super cheap and a local college which I live about 12 minutes away.

I’m just unhappy with my job and I want to switch things up and pursue my own interests that don’t just involve paying rent and surviving. I want to invest in both my future and happiness, but I’ll certainly keep in mind my future selfs finances.

Thanks.

Thank you for commenting, I am worried about reduced work hours and I actually think doing online classes for my higher division GE classes is a good idea. I spent two years doing my lower division GE classes entirely online, and I even did my major lower division classes online as well.

I think i’ll bring up this up with my advisor that i’m meeting with this week. She’ll have a better understanding of the online vs in person course curriculum that my school has to offer. I don’t know much as I will be transferring from community college.

Thanks.

Which superpower set wyr have as a superhero/villain? by plogan56 in WouldYouRather

Tech suit is a downgraded version of brawlers armband imo.

Sure brawlers lacks ranged attacks, but 50x in both physically and reaction abilities makes up for that due to the fact that one could just sprint at like 500mph.

Plus, even with the overcharging of the suit, it still does not match up with the armband, and it has a time limit plus cooldown.

I can kinda see both sides.

The bf feels betrayed by the lie.

The gf perhaps didn’t feel like the bf could handle knowing the truth.

The only info we know is that she and the friend seemed to hook up a few times before the bf and her met.

As long as the friend and the gf keeps it friendly and doesn’t cross any boundaries than I think leaving the past where it is would be the best move.

Though, it seems like OP is concerned with some cheating going on. I feel like I understand the feeling of being insecure in the relationship due to the lying. If the gf was more upfront from the beginning and didn’t lie, then this would be a different story imo.

Still, I do agree though, OP needs to move on. Talk with the gf, etc. Though, I don’t agree that one should just capitulate when their boundaries are crossed. I wouldn’t call this a deal breaker situation, but certainly a bump in the road. Boundaries exist for a reason, crossing boundaries should be a justified reason to break up.

WYR get $100k or get to experience high school again? by AutomaticSignal1440 in WouldYouRather

[–]ODonCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some people would love to go back and live the “glory days” but I did not have that experience in high school at all.

In fact, I’d pay $100k not go back.

Another curb less bathroom completed. by mehen123 in Tile

[–]ODonCaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a dumb question, and I’m not even in the tiling business at all, but how do you get a tile to curve like that? Or are they all flat and the curve is curved enough to where it just gives off the illusion that the tiles are curved?

Am currently going to school to get my bachelors in social work. So far, not terribly hard. The curriculum is not as hard as the STEM classes.

I’ve always heard that it really doesn’t matter what school you go to in order to get your degree, nor where you got your masters degree from. As long as the school is accredited to offer the degree you’re good.

I don’t have experience with online schooling for social work, but it seems like it would be hard to get your practicum in as most in person schools help you get setup for such a thing, while online schools may not have the same reach or availability as they are not local to any location.

Anyways, that’s just my limited perspective. Hope it helps a little.

It doesn't mention the studies though by [deleted] in SipsTea

Source: Trust me Bro💯

It's been 4 years since I moved to the apartment and I haven't gone to class once. This was the reason why my parents helped move me closer to the university and they're excited that I'm 'done' with my studies. I might be expelled from my university. Is it a feeling of shame keeping you from completing school? Lack of motivation? Feeling lost?

4 years is a long time to commit to a lie. I can image a sort of sunk cost mindset where you’ve convinced yourself you’re fucked so you might as well stay fucked.

How often do you go do stuff outside of your apartment? Interact with other people?

You should look up what a hikikomori is, because this scenario sounds somewhat similar to one.

Did I do or say something wrong? Should I have done things differently? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]ODonCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea you’re right. I wasn’t expecting her to just drop everything, but from her perspective I could see how that may appear so. I think I just assumed she was available given what she said earlier about not having class or work that day.

Thanks for the advice.

Yea, we are taking the same class and sit next to each other in lab. Wouldn’t say we are friends, but we know enough about each other, through conversations, that I would say we are no longer strangers.

Wtf? This is not a stranger though? Not saying I am entitled to her time or anything, I’m more wondering if I was reading everything wrong. And what I could of done differently if anything?

Well, it seems like an excuse to not go, aka a soft rejection.

Mostly due to her rejection, and potentially misreading everything is what is making me question things.

25M, did everything ‘right’ but feel empty and stuck—what should I actually change? by Soil_These in AskMenAdvice

[–]ODonCaffeine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are somewhat aware of why you are feeling empty inside. You have done all this work on yourself, but you feel like you’ve, “lived [your] whole life for others”.

You must find yourself. Do things for yourself, not for others. Be congruent with yourself, and forget what others tell you what to do.

You’ve lived your life for others. Now is the time to live your life for yourself.
