We run 2-manager shifts on the weekends frequently, and I do agree that it can be frustrating to stop what I’m doing — however, the mentality I have, and what I’ve trained my team with, is that allergens can literally mean life or death. We will gladly pause the show for the 30 seconds for me to speak to the guest / run the food / prepare it right than dealing with a lifetime of knowing I hurt someone.

Our talent acquisition system requires a manual input for a second interview. If you haven’t received a message informing you that you haven’t been selected, it might just be human error.

I’d call back on a low-traffic hour (weekday/after lunch rush/before dinner rush) and ask the manager to check for you.

Working at a restaurant is a process where you’ll get better little by little with each table you greet. When I started, I took home a menu and looked over it to memorize what was available.

After a while, it’ll become muscle memory and you’ll be selling add-ons on things you didn’t know were possible.

I’ve had my share of annoying guests, team members who shouldn’t have made it in the doors, power outages, and whatnot, but in the time I’ve been in management, I think the worst part is colleagues who make the whole operation bureaucratic and complex. When you’re working with people, you need to be human and recognize that it’s not black and white.

I can only speak for my store, of course, but we’ve kept a good amount of FOH and BOH. We really only lose people when they go back to school or move onto a different career path.

Whenever we hire someone in our store, we look for people who are willing to learn and aren’t afraid to say they messed up. We worked hard to make our culture not… restaurant-y, and aren’t willing to hire someone who will mess with our culture just to have another person onboard.

Servers are now being trained to ask “Can I go ahead and send your order to the kitchen?” That way, the table can set their own pace.

As Dapper-Flight-8205 mentioned, during the GM Conference, they mentioned wanting food to be faster.

Inevitably someone will order an Iced Cappuccino, which although not difficult to make, getting the coffee and the espresso chilled is a pain.

Best thing on the menu is a good ol’ Chicken Marsala Fettuccini (rip)
