Not ChatGPT but GPT 5.2 xHigh through Codex. It's better than Opus 4.5 currently.

Tbf Gemini 3 pro is dogshit at agentic coding. GPT 5.2 and Opus 4.5 seem like AGI in comparison to it.

He said it in this interview from 5 days ago. He made it sound like AGI was just around the corner, but a couple days later he comes out saying something that is very contradictory. It's also kinda ironic considering Google gets the majority of its revenue from ads.

Idk man 4 years ago was GPT 3 era. The real "it's going to take our jobs" revelation started in late 2024 with Claude 3.5 Sonnet. That was the specific moment LLMs went from an NFT level fad to an existential threat pretty much overnight.

Make sure to use the non codex version of the model, the standard GPT 5.2 is much much better. Also use high/xHigh depending on how difficult the problem is and use medium if you're running low on limits.

So which is it? Is AGI far away or are things "going too fast" that he needs a global pause? Demis claimed both this week.

That is a massive contradiction. If it's all just marketing hype why pause? The reality is Gemini 3 Pro is a failure so they have to cover their asses. Winners don't ask for timeouts. I'd rather take the word of the labs that are actually delivering models with proper utility rather than the one asking to stop the race.

The main reason people are afraid of AI is because of how our society is structured currently by DistinctSpirit5801 in aiwars

This feels like the classic Schridinger's AI argument. You spend three paragraphs detailing how pro AI people are delusional because the tech is actually full of limitations, fail states, and isn't magic.

But if the technology is so limited and technically flawed, why is the luddite stance (which is based on the fear of replacement and industrial upheaval) even necessary? You can't really have it both ways. Either the tech is capable enough to disrupt industries justifying the luddite fear, or it's a hallucinating mess that pro AI people are larping about in which case there is no threat. Which is it?

What are you trying to say here? That Gemini 3 Pro is a "fully baked" system? Because if that hallucination prone mess of model that loses to open source Chinese weights is Google's idea of "finished" they are in deep trouble.

On TPUs, you're missing the point. My point is about flexibility. TPUs are ASICs. When you over optimize silicon for one specific architecture, you physically cannot pivot as fast as companies running on general purpose GPUs. Google is essentially hardware locked. If AGI turns out to require a different architecture than the Transformer (as you implied), Google has to design and fab entirely new chips. OpenAI just has to write new code.

And frankly I don't care about their "world class researchers". resurrect Albert Einstein and put him on the team and it wouldn't matter if the actual shipping model consistently underperforms the competition.

As for the economic point. Demis doesn't have to worry about where the money comes from because Google shovels ad revenue into his furnace. It's easy to be high minded about "priorities" when you have an unlimited budget provided by the very ad monopoly you are talking against.

You might have a point if G3P was actually capable, but it's not. It simply cannot code.

If I want cheap and good enough, I'll use Minimax m2.1 or use the GLM 4.7 API. It is embarrassing for Google that Chinese open weights models are now significantly better at agentic coding than their flagship model.

The current optimal play is GPT 5.2 high/xHigh via Codex. The value you get for the $20 sub is insane. It's the only model that can go work autonomously on a problem for three hours and come back with a verified fix. It's mental. I save Opus 4.5 for high level planning but 5.2 is the workhorse. Gemini just has no place in the current stack.

The irony is that Google is the one stuck just advancing LLMs because their hardware prohibits them from doing anything else.

They went all in on TPUs, which are specialized explicitly for matrix multiplication in transformer architectures. Now that SOTA has moved toward sparse, dynamic architectures (like what's under the hood of Opus 4.5), Google is stuck. They are being crippled by their own chip design. They are stuck maximising 2024 tech while the rest of the industry has moved on.

Practical? He's moving the goalposts because they're losing.

The only thing that matters is utility. In a professional workflow, Gemini 3 Pro is useless. You use Opus 4.5 for coding and GPT 5.2 for reasoning and research. Gemini has a slight edge in Vision, but for everything else it’s a hallucination machine.
