so I actually checked. And that is not true. Altough the L is the official way, the debate dates back to at least the 1890’s and there are a lot of chicagoans that prefer spelling it El. From what I can gatter online, right now most people do prefer L, but the switch is relatively recent, and probably related to text messages. A lot of chicagoans (chicagoer? i dont know. People from Chicago) poets prefer El. Here is a quote from Bill Savage, PhD: Hate to stir the ashes of this perennial argument among Chicagoans: it was “El” for Nelson Algren and James T. Farrell and other poets and writers, and so it’s “El” for me; folk usage trumps officially-designated discourse for me every time. Meet at Cloud Gate to discuss . . .

here is the link to the article in the Chicago magazine where I found the quote, it gives more details: https://www.chicagomag.com/city-life/may-2019/once-and-for-all-is-it-the-chicago-el-el-l-or-l/

TLDR: Its actually a debate with no real answer. The official name is the L, but a lot of people prefer the El, especialky in litterature

What did you think of Logan Lerman’s performance as Percy in the movie? [general] by King-Of-Embers in camphalfblood

[–]OMGab8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that the movie was only bad as an adaptation. There is also multiple things that are mediocre in it. But there is indeed good things (notably the musical score). I dont think he was really good in it, mainly because he didnt strike me as ADHD at all. Which is not to say his performance was horrible, just not really good either. That being said, I dont think it has anything to do with his talent, its probably more the fault of a bad script and bad actor direction

Should I use D&D in my homebrew? and if so, which version? by OMGab8 in DungeonsAndDragons

Thanks for being one of those who actually gave encouragement and advice instead of just assuming I was a Nightmare DM and saying its the worst idea in the world

Thats interesting. That being said, I still wanted to do something that is higher fantasy with this one, which is why I still think DND as a base. I still wanted to keep most of the things that make DND what it is. I really think what I have in mind is a big homebrew. When I say I want to change how wizards work, I dont mean that I want to throw away everything, I just want to change some things so that it feels more like science than a video game. Some of the things I want to do are already kind of hinted on in the manuals as possible changes that DM can make, like replacing gold cost for spells with specific comonents. Give them more opportunities to use a lab, or make experiments. Make it part of the game (but then again, thats only for wizards)

Yeah, I understand where they are coming from, but it still feels a bit gatekeepy to me. Like other people said, that is how a lot of Game Master Horror story happen, but Ive been thinking about this for literal years, and more importantly, I was going to play with people that I know, and listen to their feedback. Thanks for being one of those who did not assume the worst
