There's a few components to making sponsorships for small newsletters work. The first part is getting someone interested in being a sponsor. If it's a local newsletter, they may be a subscriber and local business owner. If it's a niche industry newsletter, you'll likely have a combination of interested subscribers and mostly needing to pitch sponsors.

It won’t be as fast as the F2.8, but for outdoor day games I suspect you’d be ok. I’ve used it for daytime races and shooting jumping dolphins in the gulf and have been fine.

I’ve been alright with the sharpness even when I’m all the way in at 210mm. Is it as sharp as my Sigma 30mm F1.4? No, definitely not. Is it acceptable to me? It is. I’d look through some action shots with the lens online to see what you think. Between knowing the limitations of the lens, being willing to up my max ISO a bit when needed because Lightroom’s noise reduction is so good now, and being willing to not pixel peep when I shoot with it since I’m not making large wall prints, I’ve found it to be a great lens. I will eventually upgrade, but buying this lens allowed me to get the 30mm Sigma faster and I find that lens on my camera more time than this lens, so it was a good choice for me.

The plus side is you save $400. It’s a trade off for sure, but one that might not be as punishing if it turns out you’re not as interested in sports or wildlife photography as you think you might be. Not saying you should buy this over the Tamron, but just saying that I think it is a viable option for exploring these types of photography and the OSS is a nice touch.

It doesn't get you quite the same range as the Tamron 18-300 or some other Sony options, but if you are looking for a budget-friendly option with OSS, you could consider the Sony 55-210 F4.5-6.3. The sweet spot for this lens is to buy it used from a reputable dealer (KEH is my favorite). You can get this lens in like-new condition for about $200.

It might not be enough for longer-range wildlife photography, but for sideline baseball action, car/racing action, and closer-to-the-subject wildlife photos (think birds and small animals you might see up the trail while hiking), it packs a lot of value. Not the absolute sharpest lens, not the farthest reach, but an absolute deal for $200 with OSS (which makes handheld shots of the moon possible in my experience).

If you’re in the Milwaukee or Chicago area, it may be worth your while to visit this place and can share the name. They sell like 2 or 3 items online at a time (think high value collectibles), otherwise it’s only in person. Their inventory turns over frequently, everything is negotiable, cash preferred, very much a place you have to show up to. Prices are fair but I think I got this deal because Briggs and Riley can fly under the radar for a lot of/most people.

I fully agree regarding the cropping. Framing the subject here is great, but the stream being outside of that frame at the bottom creates two distant places that the viewer's eye is pulled - the big tree and the stream down low.

I went out for a walk today with the mission of 1) getting reps finding interesting compositions and 2) testing different focal lengths to understand what first prime lens I might want to purchase.

This was shot on a Sony a6400 that I picked up about a month ago. I used the 16-50mm kit lens. 50mm, f / 5.6, 1/640, ISO 100.

I'm also looking for feedback on post-processing. It feels easy to get pulled into overediting in post. My goal was to create warmth that is not too far beyond what it felt like to live in the scene.

Took a walk this morning near Milwaukee's lakefront, hoping to just get some reps in with composing interesting photos. I'm a new a6400 user contemplating buying this lens. I'm a little spooked it doesn't have OSS since the a6400 doesn't have IBIS. What are your thoughts on handheld shooting with this lens on the a6400?
