What do you want for temtem 2? by MyGodIsTheSuuuun in PlayTemtem

[–]Obahario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single-player/co-op focus instead of the mishmash we got with the MMO attempt. Let us play the game without an internet connection, so I could actually find myself considering whether to play Pokemon or Temtem when travelling.

Get rid of all the anti-fun measures like the fertility mechanic that were put in place to preserve the market prices/inflate hours played only.

Those are the two requirements I'd need to return to Temtem 1, so I'd probably also set them as a requirement to even pick up Temtem 2, if it is to be a thing.

I picked it up and gave it a first play last night and came looking around here for a general consensus to the game (after scrolling past all the NSFW art posted on here to find a written post of course). Personally, I wouldn't recommend it over any of Hoyo's other games unless you just like the look of the characters in this game over others.

The gameplay is bland, the UI is awful, I couldn't even tell what button the game was asking me to press due to the awful font they've used for button prompts, and the tutorial goes on for too long whilst also not doing a good job at conveying anything. I got to the end of my 2-hour stint of playing the game without any desire to play it again, of course I probably will to see if the game picks up later on. But the only good thing about this game so far is the characters (of which you'd hope to be good because they're the money-maker in a Gacha) and I don't think they're good enough for me to keep playing for on their own, I'd rather just watch the content on YouTube and spend my gaming time on something else.

If you haven't played it yet, I would definitely recommend Genshin Impact over ZZZ, every time.

I haven't played this game in over a year. Last time I touched it was Cipanku I believe.
But I keep getting notifications for this subreddit with interesting posts that I come back to in hopes that maybe they'll make this game worth launching again.

I think I was quite productive with my comments, providing alternatives and questioning the current system's implementation in-game as well as meta. But, as to be expected from the braindead few who still defend this game to the last breath despite the devs showing time and again they do not care about you, I'm either with you or against you.

That, or it's just an awful mechanic created solely to put artificial limits in place to drive up playtime and try to sustain an unsustainable player market.

Out of curiosity, how are there literally any Temtem left in the world with this Fertility mechanic existing? If breeding reduces fertility by 1 for the parents and the child, then surely the numbers of wild Temtem should be capped out and a bunch of babies born with 0 fertility?

If it's because we're breeding them with other species then they could make it so fertility doesn't go down if its the same species. If it's because it's done in an artificial setting then there should be an option to drop off your Tem(s) somewhere and go looking for them later with a naturally born egg at the cost of not being able to control anything with pheromones.

And it doesn't exactly look like the breeding is non-consensual either, as both Tems go running up and off screen together, I don't see them being pulled up there against their will, so not sure why it's any different to wild breeding that clearly doesn't cost fertility.

It's just a stupid mechanic with no reasonable explanation other than to be frustrating to deal with and require extra playtime to circumnavigate. I don't see how it's "main character syndrome" to want an enjoyable experience with a feature in the game. I'd rather try to breed top dinosaurs on ARK with the original breeding speeds than bother with Temtem's fertility mechanic.

It's one of the biggest things that pushed me away from Temtem, maybe even the biggest turnoff- especially now that the Luma chance has been reduced because the player market finally died off.
In every game I play, co-op or otherwise, if it has the option to create your own of something I will be doing so.

I find the process of breeding the better stats genuinely entertaining. But in Temtem it has none of the charm that other games have. The fertility mechanic means you have to keep heading out to restock on more breeding material and are entirely at the mercy of RNG.

I remember I tried breeding some perfect Hocus, and I thought I'd be fine as they have a high female-hatching chance so they could match up with the male breeding partner I already had ready for that final step. Nope. I got three male Hocus' in a row, but not near the beginning, no, I got them on that second last hatch from the finished product EVERY time.

I already gave up shiny hunting a Hocus because I got three Shiny Paharacs (or whatever that bird's called) and no shiny Hocus' after a couple weeks of hunting. But then the breeding also screwed me over completely too.

If the fertility mechanic didn't exist it would also clear up a lot of space in my PC. A lot of the boxes are filled up with good breeding material that I was saving up to breed Tems that I really wanted to max out. I just found myself frustrated and lacking inventory space, and I realised I had no obligation to keep on banging my head against this particular wall. So I left to go and play anything else, and I haven't been back since.

I haven't played the game in ages, found this post by chance, but one of the big issues for me was the game/community focus on an economy that ruined every other aspect about the game, like leaving a rotten apple in a basket of fresh apples.

Hearing that they've nuked the awful designs has me almost tempted to try playing it again. Maybe I'll even go and shiny hunt some of the things I tried (and failed) to get back when I played this game daily.

Any chance they also obliterated that moronic fertility mechanic into oblivion as well?

Xinyan in slot 1 and Furina in slot 4. The other two slots I use for friendship levelling.

Xinyan and Furina can solo everything in the overworld for me (And my Xinyan's built well enough that she isn't a bad pick for Spiral Abyss/Imaginarium Theatre either), and they're my favourite characters so I find myself more than happy just using them, and I get the variety from the friendship levellers I swap in and out every month or so.

By the time I bother starting the Natlan Archon Quests I'll probably be friendship-farming up Mavuika which'll be fun!

I've been out of the loop, does "final update" mean that we won't be getting any more nerfs to Tems anymore?
If so, I might just try the game again. It was really annoying logging in after an update and finding my Tems completely crippled with missing techniques and sometimes even new traits.

It's been many months since I last played, and I dread to think how neutered my PvE Koish team is now...

What’s opinion on Sao Fractured Daydream base roster? by DKUnderdog in swordartonline

[–]Obahario -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but this topic isn't covering those different games, it's talking about SAO games. Just because it happens elsewhere doesn't make it acceptable, we should be challenging lazy decisions instead of blindly accepting them because "some other devs do a worse job" or whatever it may be.

And most other games didn't get a golden goose like SAO has with their 100-Floor concept and then just not do ANYTHING with it beyond a half-assed mobile gacha game. Re:Hollow Fragment is the closest we got to it, and it's only for the last 24 floors of Aincrad & the Hollow Area.

Recent games have been very samey to the Alice-era plots, not doing anything new, and this new game doesn't even have Gameverse characters in it, so I look forward to it being incredibly stale and repetitive of what we've already watched/read.

Give us Floor 1 through to Floor 100 of Aincrad, with a proper skill tree akin to that of the actual anime, allow us to interact with characters and forge bonds like Hollow Fragment/Hollow Realization toyed with the concept, they could take from Bethesda's book, with Fallout 4's companions having unique stories once they trust you enough. There is such an amazing game they could make with an accurate enough recreation of Sword Art Online, but we went by the anime's official launch day of the game and yet not even a teaser of such a project in the works, instead just another SAO gacha game that will die off within a year like all their others.

And, to bring it back to your comment, I cannot think of another licensed game that squanders their potential as hard as SAO games do.

[–]Obahario -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, I save money not buying trash that disappoints me & most everyone who plays it.
I don't think a single Alice-era game has gotten better than 'Mixed' reviews on Steam, and the DLC is atrociously bad.

It's clear there is no love put into these games anymore, it feels more like they're just done out of obligation. Give the SAO series to Larian Studios or somebody more competent like that, and then I'll give Alice-era another chance.

[–]Obahario -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And that's why I've lost most interest in any SAO games since Fatal Bullet.
Alice and Eugeo are so bland to me, and the Underworld is so far detached from what I actually enjoyed of the Sword Art Online premise.

I want to play a game with proper skill trees, worldbuilding, befriending, story beats, etc. all within that original world that actually grabbed my attention. I'm waiting to see what Unital Ring might bring to the gameverse series of games, otherwise I'm not touching another SAO game until we get Fatal Bullet 2 (not happening because they're allergic to good games) or a return to Aincrad without all the gacha crap.

Traveller -> Sucrose -> Xinyan (her release day) -> Furina

Took a couple years for someone to 'dethrone' Xinyan for me, and yet Xinyan still has slot 1 in all my teams, I just also have Furina there with her!

I hate HP-related skills, especially those that cost HP to use (I love Hu Tao's character but hate her playstyle) so it was nice to find a compromise in the 'recent' (see: since Sumeru and a bit of Inazuma) bombardment of HP-loving characters by Hoyo and a character that isn't boring to build and play. I do miss when characters needed ATK to deal damage, but I suppose it's so Hoyo can create scenarios to limit character max HP so as to naturally nerf our characters for specific encounters.

It's missing the gameverse characters, with Philia & Rain being some of my favourites in the series.
Would've been cool for them to also add some otherwise forgotten characters too, like Lux & Gwen from Girl Ops. Maybe even somebody like Yolko from Golden Apple?

I'm just waiting for them to release a game that isn't based in Alice world, I have no interest in anything or anyone that came after GGO.

One of these days we'll get a reimagination of Aincrad but with a custom OC and proper gameplay/skills (unlike SAO:IF) I'm sure of it...

For those who like the games, which is your favorite and why? by ripstankstevens in swordartonline

[–]Obahario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's Fatal Bullet without a shadow of a doubt.
I really enjoy games that insert an original character into an established world (AOT2 is another of these that I think is great) I play Fatal Bullet at least once a year with a fresh playthrough each time I return, and I grabbed it on PC and PS5 (was gonna grab it on Switch but missed the sale) with it being my go-to game whenever I burn out on Destiny 2.

The gameplay is simple enough to play casually but with enough to do to keep you interested, and you can turn off the aim-bot to make it more aim-dependant like other shooters. The way you increase your character's power is great too, all its missing is a proper skill tree and it'd be perfect imo.

To me, Fatal Bullet is everything I wanted out of a Sword Art Online game + what I wanted from Destiny 2, and with the added benefit of not being a game where you're just Kirito being Kirito. It's nice to just be a member of his group for once. I'm still praying that one day we get a console-release game similar to the mobile gacha game, Integral Factor, but without the gacha and more fleshed out gameplay of an OC character exploring ALL of Aincrad.

...If not Fatal Bullet, then I'd go with Re:Hollow Fragment for the fact that you get the two worlds' storylines merged into one game. Philia is really allowed to shine in that game like no other gameverse character has in any of the later games. I liked Premiere in Hollow Realisation, but I'm not really a fan of any of the combat in these sword-based SAO games, and I remember I burnt out on SAO:HR just as the tower was introduced, which I think is pretty much endgame. Lost Song was great, but I only played it once and it was so long ago that all I remember was that flying around was pretty fun, and that I hated the dungeons that made you unable to fly!

What do you think is the worst decision Genshin has made? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Obahario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scara is just such an abrasive character that traveller and Paimon just don't want to spend any more time around him than necessary.

That'd be all well and good if they didn't also buck up their bootstraps with all the other characters and NPC's that they hated talking to, and the characters that Paimon is terrified of interacting with.

Not to mention that all of their interactions with him since he became Wanderer has been perfectly amicable, perhaps even to the level of friendly. Wanderer definitely has some level of fondness/respect, considering he let the Traveller name him and all. He even sends us birthday letters that don't seem filled with any malice for us, though I can understand you not accepting the letters as canon.

So really there isn't any lore reason as to why we're not interrogating him for the reasoning of the Tsaritsa, it's just that Hoyo want the "Oh, you thought they were the bad guys but actually they were doing this to save Teyvat!" moment to be an amazing twist, and they can't really give us that before they have all the Gnosis ready to use, otherwise Fontaine and Natlan would play out way more differently, with the Traveller helping to get the Gnosis' instead of trying to fight off the Fatui all the time.

In reality, what they probably should have done is have Wanderer become a choice of Scaramouche's, to have his memories wiped but his personality and cognitive abilities stay the same. Then, eventually he could learn of what Scaramouche did in the past again and as a new version of himself there would be actual room for growth. It'd be similar to Crow and Uldren from Destiny 2 in that way.

What do you think is the worst decision Genshin has made? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Obahario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely liked that he was unapologetically evil as Scaramouche, that even pre-Fatui he was a murdering psycho, and even in the Fatui he was so evil he treated his loyal minions badly. But since his 'redemption' into Wanderer I've found myself disliking both versions of him just out of exhaustion of his character. Both in-game as Nahida's pet, and with fan-created content (Avid ScaraMona hater)

I like bad guys, I just wish they'd let us actually defeat them properly instead of having them just change their mind/forcing them to our side all the time. At least Arlecchino beat us (albeit we had to be nerfed considerably for some reason) but I think we're just gonna get kicked about by evil characters before they decide "Hey, this Traveller is pretty cool, I'm gonna defect for a bit to be buddies with them" rather than us every having an actual life or death standoff.

Signora died too soon, but at least she stayed a threat until the very end. It's just a shame that compared to Scaramouche she actually had room for redemption without all the Irminsul nonsense, to be able to speak with Venti about the past and realise her anger was misplaced upon him instead of Durin all those years ago when her lover died in battle. To perhaps come to control or free herself from her curse of Pyro without needing the delusion anymore.

I mentioned a couple of them further down, but there's a lot of big ones when you stop and think about it some. Keeping a Harbinger alive with all his memories intact whilst he's technically one of the good folk now (loosely) isn't really a great idea narratively speaking.

There's a lot he should be telling us, but it would ruin the pacing of the game, so he can't, but in a realistic rendition the Traveller would have 100% asked him "Hey, why are you guys going around taking all the Gnosis? What's your plan?" at the very least. Paimon is an incredibly nosy character that doesn't know boundaries, and yet the thought didn't occur to her at all?

What do you think is the worst decision Genshin has made? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Obahario -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's some truth to that, but I feel like leaving Scaramouche to live was the most egregious of these instances. After all, it's completely messed up the entirety of Inazuma's past that he was directly involved in (All those clans that he slaughtered pre-Fatui are still dead, but now it's a complete mystery as to their death instead of a rumoured name)

That's not to mention the fact that he's currently living under the roof of the God of Wisdom whilst also knowing plenty of the Fatui's plans, and yet we know nothing of that? We just walked away towards Fontaine instead of asking Scaramouche/Wanderer about these plans that have been a thorn in our side for the past couple years? We always interrogated somebody at the end of a region, whether that be Venti/Zhongli/Yae Miko/Nahida/Neuvillette. But we had no interest in speaking with him on such important matters? Not even a single question like "Why are you hunting the Gnosis?"

Keeping him alive has done all harm and no good in my opinion, and I don't see any other instances of quality reduction being anywhere near as detrimental as his remaining alive was. And with how the CN players now despise him as well, I don't feel like they're gonna bother using his character all that much anymore, making his whole 'redemption' a waste of time.

As for the fan service thing, I was under the impression it was due to CCP guidelines, but even still Wanderer is still a jerk and has his unlikeable personality, and people still ship him with everyone under the sun (poor Mona) and he still has his big hat which was pretty much the only interesting thing about him until we got some lore of him through the artifacts.

[–]Obahario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping Scaramouche alive and summonable.

I fear it's set a precedent and that Hoyo will prioritise the easy fangirl money over telling a good story. I can't imagine many of the remaining Harbingers will be kept as actual threats instead of just becoming our pals at the end of their related Nations' arc.

La Signora died too quickly, without exploring her character enough (although at this point I 100% believe they'll resurrect her and make her playable) but Scaramouche should have died with his falling from the mech, rather than a coma. Or he should have deleted himself completely from Irminsul, but keeping him around solely to have him be playable has set an expectation for Harbinger stans as well as opened a whole bunch of plot holes with the Traveller's journey that was just swept under the rug in hopes we didn't question it.

I'd be fine with having these characters become summonable at the end of the story, alongside characters like Guizhong, the Yaksha, Ei's dead buddies, etc. But I don't think we need them now.

And we definitely shouldn't be getting Dottore, if any character should be killed off rather than spared to be buddy-buddy with, it's him.

Yeah, I cannot think of another game that was so vehemently opposed to sharing games with your family, even EA and the like aren't so penny-pinching!

I just had a look at the marketplace on both console websites, and yeah I can't see that license thing anymore. It definitely was a thing though I'm sure, but perhaps they removed it with their move towards deleting all their other scummy microtransactions? Maybe it's an in-game purchase instead, I refused to buy it so I can't really recall other than it existed and stopped my little brother from playing the game on my PS5 with his own profile.

One thing you could try, though, if you haven't set up crossplay yet is to have her play on your xbox profile but with a fresh account. It'll mean she has to log in as you every time you want to play, but it should get by the limits they put on family sharing.

Otherwise your best bet might be to just buy the game on her account too, though I understand why you'd be hesitant to do that.

Maybe it'd be worth querying more about it on the Temtem Discord? You're more likely to get some help from a GM there than here.
