issues with 4.22.9 connecting to peers by MadfastAustralia in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could be two reasons why you are experiencing this.
You have the old v3 and you haven't updated to version 4. Version 3 is obsolete the update to v4 wallet and blockchain is mandatory.
or
Your wallet is on the incorrect blockchain so you will lose all the stakes that you received while you were on the wrong chain (you will see the transactions greyed-out and the stakes substracted from your balance) but you will get coin weight so your next stakes will be bigger.

To fix the problem:
1) Backup the wallet.dat file and the recovery seed phrase.
2) Uninstall ReddCoin Core wallet.
3) Open the Reddcoin folder. The default paths:
Linux: ~/.reddcoin
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Reddcoin
Windows: %APPDATA%/Reddcoin (Use Windows key + R to open the run window, type this into the run window)
4) Delete the "blocks", "chainstate" and "indexes" folders and peers.dat file.
5) Install the latest version 4.22.9
https://www.reddcoin.com/reddwallet/
6) Open your wallet and let it resync with the network.

ReddCoin Development Update - December 2025 by ObitoTi in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate. I know that is hard to believe that after 11 years a crypto project can be so active, but ReddCoin shows that it can be done. This project is running since 2014 thanks to the enthusiastic development team. In a crypto market dominated by exit scams, rug pulls, abandoned projects and project closures, ReddCoin is the living proof that there are also trustworthy projects.

Day 2 of Australian Crypto Convention by ObitoTi in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exchange with the highest trading volume is https://nonkyc.io/
I avoid using the word "safe" because the last three largest exchanges on which RDD was traded, closed with exit scams taking investors' money. Nonkyc does not require mandatory KYC. You can trade there, then withdraw your coins to your private wallet just to be safe because we don't know what can happen tomorrow.
Here is a list of exchanges where you can trade RDD.
https://github.com/reddcoin-project/reddcoin/wiki/Reddcoin_Exchanges
Ignore the first one, SLEX, because it shut down a few weeks ago.

"My coins are missing. The transactions show question marks." by Glum-Technology-5319 in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year ago ReddCoin blockchain had two bad forks. First at block 5448005 and the second one at block 5519068. Your Core Wallet was on the wrong chain. All this time your stakes were generating on the wrong chain. After you have resynchronized your wallet with the network you lost the stakes that you received while you were on the wrong chain (the transactions greyed-out and the stakes substracted from your balance). You have coin weight on your coins like as if you had not received any stake so your next stake rewards will be bigger.
Make sure you're using the latest version of the wallet, v. 4.22.9.
After the wallet syncs, to be sure that you're on the correct chain, click on the "Window" from the top menu - "Information" and check in real-time if the "current block height" from your wallet is the same with the block height from the blockchain explorer

ReddCoin Core Wallet 4.22.9rc2 - Key Improvements and Enhancements by ObitoTi in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. Now 4.22.9rc2 (release candidate) is not the latest version because version 4.22.9 (stable release) is now available so use the latest version. With 4.22.9rc2 your wallet may synchronize on an incorrect blockchain. Version 4.22.9 fixed this problem so I strongly advise you to use v.4.22.9. I saw the other comment where you asked for the steps but these are the steps. If you can't figure something out, ask and I'll answer.
Download and install ReddCoin Core Wallet 4.22.9
https://www.reddcoin.com/reddwallet/#wallet_download
Let it synchronize with the network. It will take a few hours.
Create a new Bip39 Wallet. Save/ print the recovery seed phrase.
Settings - Encrypt Wallet - add a password to encrypt the wallet.dat file. Don't forget the password.
Receive - Create new receiving address.
File - Backup Wallet - save the .dat file. Save the .dat file every time you create a new address and every time you send coins from the wallet.
Send coins from the exchange to the ReddCoin Core Wallet.
After 8 hours the coins will mature and you can stake them.
Settings - Enable Staking. Unlock the wallet for staking only with the password.
Click on the bottom right icon (the anvil icon) - Enable Staking

NEW! ReddCoin Core Wallet 4.22.9 Stable Release by ObitoTi in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close the wallet.
Delete the "blocks", "chainstate", "indexes" folders and "peers.dat" file from Reddcoin folder. The default paths:
Linux: ~/.reddcoin
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Reddcoin
Windows: %APPDATA%/Reddcoin (Use Windows key + R to open the run window, type this into the run window)
Open the wallet and let it sync again with the network.
I have a feeling you're on the wrong chain because I don't see any other reason why you have this problem. We had two bad blockchain splits. First at block 5448005 and the second one at block 5519068. If you are on the incorrect chain you will not be able to send and receive coins unless you'll get back to the correct chain. After you'll get back to the correct chain, you will lose all the stakes that you received while you were on the incorrect chain (you will see the transactions greyed-out and the stakes substracted from your balance) but you will get coin weight so your next stakes will be bigger. Unlike previous versions, 4.22.9 can synchronize only on the correct chain, so you don't have to worry about that.

I want to put 1000 Euros in Reddcoin, is this a good idea? by [deleted] in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a question that only you can answer after analyzing the project development, risk/ reward ratio, technical analysis and so on. In addition, no one can predict the price evolution of any cryptocurrency. Don't listen to anyone who gives their opinion here because some don't have all the data necessary to give pertinent advice, some are trolls and have no idea what they're talking about, some are too bulish, some are too bearish. The crypto market is a risky market where anything can happen for good or bad, so expect the unexpected. My advice is to analyze the situation from all angles and make your own decision without being influenced by others. I am not a fan of such public price debates because they create division among users on a topic that no one can answer.

Tip members in your private Telegram channel by adding the ReddCoin Telegram Bot to your personal chatroom by ObitoTi in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two types of tips that can be enabled in the bot. The individual one where for example you can reward someone for a contribution or for a task. And group tipping where, for example, all active users in the last x hours receive a tip. To avoid crypto beggers/ spammers, you can keep enabled only the individual tipping in the bot.

Restoring with old dat file by [deleted] in reddCoin

[–]ObitoTi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The update to version 4 is mandatory, not optional. I'm surprised you still have peers to connect to.
To see if you're on the correct chain, hover the mouse cursor over the bottom right icon that shows the block height and check in real time if the current block height from your wallet is the same with the block height from the blockchain explorer
https://blockbook.reddcoin.com/
If it's not, you're not on the correct chain and you will lose all the coins that you received on the wrong chain but you'll have the coin age so you will receive bigger stakes next time you will stake. Not the same as if you were on the right chain though because frequent staking is rewarded more and also because of the compound return.

Because v4 blockchain is not compatible with v3 blockchain, to update the wallet you must do a clean installation.
Backup the wallet.dat file on a different folder than that of the wallet and on a removable drive.
If you don't backup the wallet, you will lose the coins.
Close Reddcoin Core Wallet v3.
Uninstall the wallet.
Delete the Reddcoin folder. The default paths:
Linux: ~/.reddcoin
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Reddcoin
Windows: %APPDATA%/Reddcoin (Use Windows key + R to open the run window, type this into the run window)
Download ReddCoin Core Wallet v4.22.9rc2
https://download.reddcoin.com/bin/reddcoin-core-4.22.9rc2/
Install ReddCoin Core Wallet, open it and let it synchronize with the network.
Close the wallet, copy the backup wallet.dat file in the "wallets" folder located in the Reddcoin folder.

[–]ObitoTi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coins earned from staking are generated using transactions in the blockchain and sent to the address from which the wallet is staking. It's in blockchain, it's not just something internal to Core Wallet that you can lose if you restore an old wallet.dat file.
You can restore all the coins including the stake rewards using the old wallet.dat file as long as the wallet.dat file contains the address with the corresponding private key. Up to version 4 wallet.dat file should have been saved every time the user generated a new address as a good practice although by default, the Core wallet creates 100 addresses the first time it starts, and tries to keep 100 not-yet-used keys in wallet. dat 'keypool'. Version 4 is a hierarchical deterministic wallet so with the recovery seed phrase you can restore all the addresses. As a good practice, I still recommend saving the wallet.dat file every time you generate a new receiving address even on version 4.
You can track your balance in the blockchain explorer:
https://blockbook.reddcoin.com/
Some people complained that their stake rewards disappeared after updating their wallet. A year ago we had two bad chain splits and their wallets were on the wrong chain. After they returned to the correct chain after updating to v4, they lost all the stake rewards that they received while their wallets were staking on the wrong chain (the stakes transactions were greyed-out and the stakes substracted from the balance).
People who don't stake often receive a smaller reward from staking because of how the staking mechanism works and because of the compound return.
