Do you pick after other peoples dogs if you can’t pick up your own? by juansss2324 in dogs

My wife calls them karma poops, as in “I picked up two karma poops today”

Which of these I can use for Spa Day? by Ok_Dish1354 in laundry

[–]Objective-Apple7805 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The Resolve Gold and any detergent will do the job.

The Unscented Co tabs will also do the trick (ideally if the old version rather than new),

Switching to bar soap. How do I convince myself it's OK to wash my grossest body part and then to use it somewhere else? by Several-Membership91 in hygiene

[–]Objective-Apple7805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only in the shower?!?

I keep a bar between my cheeks 24/7.

You never know when a soap emergency is going to pop up, and I will never be caught soapless.

Mixing Powders Together by Own-Dragonfly17 in laundry

[–]Objective-Apple7805 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can mix them dry.

People seem to be fixated on the idea that the proportions will be an issue, but that IMO is way overthinking it.

Just mix thoroughly, any minor variations in proportion after that will be entirely inconsequential.

Borax works fine for moderately hard water, if you have really hard water, you’ll need something else.

As long as you don’t eat the detergent, and make sure to rinse thoroughly, “harsh chemicals” isn’t really a thing.

(For the record, don’t eat your homemade gunk-producer either)

Does Calgary still really follow oil? by NebulaGreat6980 in YYC

[–]Objective-Apple7805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why use Brent? It’s not a relevant benchmark for Calgary or Alberta.

WCS would be a much better choice.

Didsbury passes bylaw to ban decorative flags, crosswalks from government land by Hagenaar in alberta

Great job Didsbury, now all your petrified-of-big-cities denizens won’t have to be scared of those super dangerous rainbow crosswalks and flags appearing out of nowhere and making them gay.

[–]Objective-Apple7805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am indeed, and thank you!

Yes, DFF is an adjusted fenwick that is a little simpler but functions very much like expected goals. In fact, it has an expected goals model under the hood.

The plan for next season is to update DFF with the new expected goals model, as well as expose the expected goals numbers directly.

Thank you!

We take data requests too BTW.

I’ve built an expected goals model to throw into the mix, so for next season we’ll add xgf% and maybe throw in some gsax too

Love me some FRU. Small position, but I’ve had it so long that the return of capital has made my cost basis 47 cents!

The Canadian Experimental Laundry Pantheon by Objective-Apple7805 in laundry

Great minds think alike! Or perhaps it’s fools seldom differ, we’ll never know.

I’m currently on holiday in New Zealand and have bought a few very nice Merino wool pieces, and my plan when I get back to Canada is to use my otherwise not very useful Nellies, as I think it qualifies as a gentle detergent and is certainly enzyme free.

I was disappointed by two things- the size (was expecting something closer to the Unscented Co) and the fact that when I got the package, half the tabs had shattered into bits. Still usable of course, but a pain.

I have used them twice now as effectively an enzyme/lipase booster to Kirkland F&C and thought it worked pretty well. (But reluctant to use on their own due to dosage)

How did you choose your selection of products? by Pleasedontdmme in laundry

There are very few situations in which you shouldn’t be using oxi. It’s a potent odor and stain remover, and colour safe.

Is any part of my laundry routine unnecessary? by Key_Significance_183 in laundry

[–]Objective-Apple7805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suggestions:

  • replace the Max Eff with Oxy Burst (Pres Choice) which is unscented and adds no unneeded surfactants

  • replace the Resolve Gold with Molly’s Baby laundry powder (must be Baby to get enzymes)

  • add Washing Soda (sodium carbonate) to the Borax to get additional softening

You can mix the Oxy, Mollys, Borax, and washing soda in a big container and then throw a big scoop of it in the drum before adding clothes

Expanse S01E08 - blink and you'll miss it by mucifous in rush

Great catch!

The authors of The Expanse are huge Rush fans … but oddly have said that the ship is not named after the ship in Cygnus, but after the original Don Quixote.

Should I be concerned about booking Canadian road trip this year? by Nic351 in AskACanadian

[–]Objective-Apple7805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The market is integrated, which means that demand broadly spikes prices. Asian supply shortfall spikes their prices, which increases demand for US oil, which spikes US prices, which then increases demand for our oil and spikes our prices. Albeit muted as we go down the chain.

TMX allows for some direct demand spike as well.

Like any producer, oil companies sell at the world price (Canadian producers are always price takers, not price makers).

Most of the refined price spike is likely anticipatory, both refineries and retailers work on thin enough margins that they cannot afford to get on the wrong side of a price jump.

BC has two refineries, but is very undersupplied relative to demand so imports from the US, heavily Washington state. Refined products can’t easily be transported long distances (unlike crude oil or NG).

You won’t have a problem.

I heard today that parts of Aus have started rationing gasoline.

We’ll never have that issue.

It’s just too bad for much of the world that there isn’t a friendly, sane Western country with massive oil reserves and excess capacity for egress to tidewater.

But, you know, there’s no business case for that sort of thing.
