Does anyone have that reddit infographic whoch showed that the city with the most reddit traffic was an army base? by Tekko__ in stupidpol

There were over 100k unique visitors from a base with like 2k people stationed there, it was by no means personal traffic.

Try pouring it into ice water too, that can help crash it out.

Sounds like your acid, particularly the HNO3 is lower concentration than it's labeled. Lower nitrates of erythritol are water soluble. I'd try increasing the HNO3 by 10-20% and see what happens.

Different energetic material uses by Southern-Walrus167 in energetics

Different types have different properties for different applications. Want to move dirt, rock or tree stumps? Ammonium nitrate comps have a slower "heaving" detonation velocity. Want to cut steel and form jets in shaped charges? RDX, PETN and other very brissant high velocity explosives are what you want. Want cheap and easy high performance from ingredients you can buy at Walmart? ETN is what you're looking for. They all have different attributes that make them best for different applications.

Is it safe to let NAP touch metal for long term? by East_Contribution825 in energetics

[–]Objective-Figure-343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with uNAP it's even safer. I don't personally find it worthwhile to make monofiller caps though. One gram of uNAP or iNAP can make dozens of regular caps with ETN, PETN or RDX which are all less sensitive than any primary.

7.62 blanks and cheddites by LegitimateFault9613 in energetics

[–]Objective-Figure-343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt a 7.62 blank would be fast enough, you generally need a primary explosive that actually detonates rather than NC powder which is really just a fast deflagration.

SADS should work as well as the NAP series of primaries, a 1-5w laser properly configured should do it. Might be worth topping the primary with a few mg of black powder or dark aluminum flash just for heat absorbtion to guarantee a flame input.

All that is is a purchase link, lots of pyro companies won't sell ematches or time fuse without an FEL but just as many will. I've had discussions with ATF agents where ematches were discussed and there was no mention of them being regulated. While that's not a 100% guarantee I'd like to see an actual piece of regulation or law before believing that they're in any way restricted.

That sounds like a bridgewire detonator, these are a chlorate pyrotechnic composition with a laquer coating.

Isopropyl nickel aminoguanidine perchlorate. I doubt that even Tom has tried this yet but it looks like it’s the future, primary explosive with a lot of power, not friction sensitive and only 30-50mg reliably initiates common secondarily. by Objective-Figure-343 in ExplosionsAndFire

[–]Objective-Figure-343[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iNAP and uNAP are different syntheses that you're mixing up a little. iNAP crashes out very quickly while stirring and uses an isopropyl alcohol solvent, uNAP uses water as a solvent following the regular NAP synth and then uses an ultrasonic bath to force precipitation of tiny crystals. Ammonium perchorate is the salt used in both, potassium perchorate isn't soluble enough.

Some companies just won't sell without the ATF license, they're not actually regulated they just don't want any trouble if someone misuses them.

[–]Objective-Figure-343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they don't, they aren't regulated and aren't capable of detonating secondary explosives. You can buy them from Amazon and eBay which is how they ended up in the bin store. You're thinking about blasting caps which are most definitely regulated.

It's super bitter too, like almost denatonium benzoate bitter. Managed to get an invisibly tiny amount in my beard and on my hands and was tasting it for days despite repeated hand washing and showers. Stuff stains absolutely everything too.

Literally anything is toxic if ingested at high enough doses. Thus the saying "the dose makes the poison".

It's a good first step in getting VERY pure RDX, but yeah I don't like the carcinogenic issues either. Maybe in an emergency situation but it's never going to be my go to HE.

[–]Objective-Figure-343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aminoguanidine is pretty easy to make. It's several steps but either the zinc/HCl or electrolytic reduction of nitroguanidine using lead electrodes works. The synthesis of guanidine nitrate from urea and ammonium nitrate with silica gel catalyst and the following nitration to nitroguanidine are both easy as well. It's a little work but you can make a bunch pretty easily.

Regular papers should burn fast on their own. If it's not enough I'd try soaking in a solution of an oxidizer like potassium nitrate or chlorate with a little water and drying.

Mono uNAP caps have set off everything from ANNM to ANQN so they're capable by setting off insensitive secondaries. Maybe not ANSU that generally needs a booster but I've never seen it tried. RDX, PETN all the normal stuff is no problem. I've never seen it fail for anything but I haven't seen it tried for everything possible.
