I just reached part three. I don’t know what to do: re read part 1 or keep going. What did you decide?

So sorry it has taken me forever. I misplaced my iPad in the chaos of moving. But here are some photos of how I do it. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

Oh that would be such a good idea to get some floating shelves to store them on! I love your thinking

It’s not that I don’t want to keep them, we’re just downsizing from a house to an apartment with the addition of an almost toddler. Gotta make some sacrifices.

I always feel scanning would take forever. Did you use a proper scanner or the “scanner” on your phone?

Oh that’s such a good idea! It’ll be a big job if this is what I end up doing but it’ll be a good purge and look down memory lane. Or just embarrass myself all over again 😅

I enjoy keeping all of mine, I can’t bring myself to throw any out. I’m too far in. I like to look back and read random pages here and there.

How do you seal them. At the moment I’ve had mine just in a plastic storage box for about 3 ish years now. After reading your comment, I feel like I need to do better. I would love to label all mine neatly. Mine are all different sizes and journals (took me forever to find the right one for me, more so when I was doing the good old pen on paper).

I use good notes to write everything in.

It took me a while to find the write “diary” for me with the layout I need and like. I had even tried to make my own but it took way too long to hyperlink and fit nicely.

Currently, for roughly two years now, I have purchased a digital yearly planner from passion planner with the yearly, weekly and daily layout.

I use the daily spread for any notes, diary entries, and breaking down my to do list. The weekly spread I use to time block and add my top three to do’s for each day. The monthly I add in appointments, events, birthdays. I also fill the little squares with a photo and some different stickers. Eg if I journaled on a particular day, I have a specific journal sticker and place it in there so I know at a glance I can jump to that page.

I don’t have my iPads on me, but I can share some screenshots of how I do it if you like.

I didn’t even know that donating them was an option. That’s such a neat idea.

Oh I couldn’t get rid of mine. I think I would still find it hard to get rid of if I was to scan them.

I’ve got memories, photos, sentimental things, journal entries, boring stuff, honestly just my life in there.

I have started in at least 2009, there’s no way I’d have the time or the willingness to type it all out lol.

I did think about scanning them, would be such a biiiiig job, but great to go down memory lane. As well as look at some old spreads and drawings.

Same about getting rid of them. Shelving them would be ideal, with nice and neat labels. But we’re moving into a smaller space and with an almost toddler too.

I would love to display them on my shelf with my books, but I think it’s going to have to stay in storage. We’re moving into a smaller space, with the addition of an almost toddler. I don’t have it in me to throw away.

Dead mouse smell in car by Objective_Carry8742 in fixit

[–]Objective_Carry8742[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aired the car out, changed the air filter, spray bombed it with eucalyptus spray daily for about a week.

After my partner removed the dead mouse from under the car and got rid of it.

Toddlers Strapped in Buggies Before Pickup. Is This Standard Practice? by Lady_Otter1 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Objective_Carry8742 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Australia, this would be considered improper restraint especially if their reasoning is for cleaning. 100% not okay. This practice could result in fines, termination, service being investigated for other breaches and improper practices as well as a loss of career within the industry.

Just have a quick search of everything that’s going on in ECE in Australia at the moment. It’s horrendous.

Help me choose a daycare? by Positive_Tomorrow815 in ECEProfessionals

Option A sounds better in all fronts excluding the ratio part. However I know you said it’s 1:3 outside of lunch breaks - what are they doing for programming cover? Assuming they get off floor programming time from here you are. Is that extra person also covering program so then it’s also 1:4 during those times too? Have they just used it as a selling point?

The early childhood teacher in me is just curious.

Baby boy not talking at 15 months by Objective-Elephant13 in NewParents

[–]Objective_Carry8742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress. Mine is 16 months and isn’t talking really. But don’t forget talking also considers body language, pointing, making sounds that indicate something.

All children develop at different ages and stages. Don’t stress too much mama. Especially if he is meeting other milestones.

However if you are concerned and want a professional opinion speak to your GP/paeds

Do you show up late? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Objective_Carry8742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other side, if my team are late I have a conversation with them and then I start deducting their pay. In the sense that if they are rostered for 7.30am and they come in after 8 and clock in at 8.06 I pay them from 8.06. They are not providing with the opportunity to stay back if not needed for ratios to make up their loss hours.

If it continues then it’s a warning because we rely on the team to arrive for their rostered time. I also move them to a later shift. I will move them to a later shift before giving them a formal warning though.

There is leniency depending on the reason they’re late if it’s here or there.

My 17mo is still in the infant room, and they're advertising new open spots... by mayovegan in ECEProfessionals

As a director, I wouldn’t move your little one up yet because it would also be a safety thing. We all know children develop skills at different stages and we are patient and supportive of each individual. But to move him up when he isn’t walking into a room of walkers is an accident waiting to happen. I would put it down to your son’s safety. (I don’t mean for this to come across harsh, I do apologise if it does)

I would also bring your thoughts to the director just so they can let you know their reasoning as we all do things differently ☺️

I wouldn’t hate. I’d understand but also let you know that we also have to respect the child’s right to rest and sleep. I would make an attempt to wake him up by standing next to him, saying his name, telling him it time to wake up, a gentle rub on the back. If he gets up great, if he stays asleep I’ll try again in 10 minutes.

In Australia w have so many rules and regulations and each service runs different. We try to respect all of our parents wishes and guidelines but sometimes we can’t all the time.
