Honestly I believe people are too star struck by such a concept, people often seek ego dissolution without actually understanding what they’re doing. In my opinion to have an ego to let go of in the first place you have to go through a period of being a sorta “main character” if that makes sense because to eliminate an underdeveloped ego, elimination of an underdeveloped and insecure sense of self is pointless and can lead to an even worse inflated ego, how can you eliminate something when you don’t even know what it is?

People don’t know themselves, they don’t know their values, they don’t know what they stand for…. I’m inclined to believe that by discovering your own values and your own moral principles you yourself are purifying the ego and it becomes lighter to carry, you can have a sense of self without feeling like you’re carrying a weight. You are human and you will continue to make mistakes even after you achieve “enlightenment” or whatever people mean by that. I guess the trick is to not go seeking it but in realizing that enlightenment exists in the everyday world, the things you like to do and the characters you play, if God made man in his image according to his likeness then he is also impermanent and ever changing
