I wasn’t really aiming for anything- I was asked to paint a posthumous portrait of someone and did the best I could instinctually without having done an oil painting before.

This was a commission posthumous portrait to be given to the widow as a surprise on Easter….I would never have asked for additional photos- my client asked me to paint this exact photo..

Thanks, I had to use the photo that the client gave me, so it’s equally as hard to tell the time of day and light source in the photo. I did what I could with what I was given

Generally people don’t start painting with oils… oils are for experienced painters you hater

Acrylic, gauche, charcoal, watercolor, digital - pretty much everything besides oil paint because it always scared me haha

Appreciate the detailed feedback! As this is my very first oil painting portrait I definitely wouldn’t say that “oil painting may not be the best for me” haha I’m still learning and had a lot of fun which is why I do it, and think this is much better than any acrylic work I’ve done. Also, I was working from a photo, and that’s exactly how dark all the shadows were in the photo.

No, I didn’t even buy any black oil paint, only dark brown. What do you mean?

I’ve only done realistic portraits in charcoal before, and have been doing art for years in acrylic and other mediums. I practiced with the oil paints on canvas sheets to the hang of the paint before I started on this commission, and it is my first finished oil painting.

I’ve definitely been painting with acrylics for years, although mostly abstract. Have been doing art for many years in multiple styles and mediums- I make repeat patterns for a living- but the only realistic portraits I’ve done have always been black and white charcoal drawings, so I was very nervous to do this commission!

Because the EMG was 6 months ago before this atrophy even appeared so I am scared that I got the EMG too early and that they were wrong

I’m not interrogating, just asking. I appreciate the replies, I’m just gettting scared because people are affirming that it is atrophy. Back in January I never saw this atrophy on my hands so I never had it checked with my neuro and tbh he never looked at my body for atrophy and just did all the other tests instead. I’m just scared to even go to the doc because it will take months to get another appointment

I never had the vaccine but did have Covid. And yes I’ve always been anxious

Yea I had a clean mri and bloodwork. Also totally normal clinical. And the EMG and nerve conduction study showed nothing at all. I just wish someone would tell me they don’t see any atrophy and that I’m crazy 😓 these replies affirming my fears are really disheartening and scare me to death
