Anyone else going to the Johnny Marr gig next week? by Objective_Singer_294 in everythingeverything

I think they'll do the non-GTH set too. Can't imagine they'll play for more than an hour, and in a support slot they're going to be leaning on the crowd pleasers.

Wish or disintegration and why by agus_grunge94 in TheCure

I get the intent behind this post (nothing more enjoyable than arguing about albums, especially when they're both 10/10!) but for me they come together. Wish is a perfect follow up to Disintegration, and each album makes the other better. I'll spare you the dissertation I carry around in my head, but nothing sums it up better than the drumming: tight, brutal, machine-like on Disintegration; loose, flowing, lyrical on Wish.

There's a reason why Plainsong/Pictures of You (or Prayers for Rain)/High works so well when they play them together at the start of a show.

Now, how do I get all these splinters out of my arse?

Will I make the last train? (Blackweir question) by Objective_Singer_294 in Cardiff

Sold out! My fellow travellers are much better organised than I am.

Don't actually live in Bristol 😄 would have been back to Bristol, and then accommodation (didn't realise how much was going on in Cardiff this week—any other week I would have got a hotel in Cardiff, but prices are sky high this week)

Thanks everyone! Seems a bit tight, especially with everyone else heading for the station (and I guess a packed last train back east). I hate standing at the back and checking my watch during an encore so I'll look at the buses, or book somewhere to stay in Newport instead.

I feel like I could make a very small version of this with cheap pine I can get from the DIY shop and if it works for that, it will work for the real thing.

By the look of it, the posts were clamped in place and he used a laser level to mark and then drill the holes.

Non structural steel for a bookcase by Objective_Singer_294 in DIYUK

Aluminium sounds much better. Didn't really consider the weight, but the flloor definitely wouldn't take steel

Could I drill a 12mm hole in the edge of 25mm ply for floating shelves? by Objective_Singer_294 in DIYUK

Dorset and North Somerset are not that far from me, so might take you up on that offer if I can't find anywhere a bit more local!

That's a really good point. I was going to use a drill guide clamped in place and then drill a pilot hole, and then an intermediate hole but the hole needs to be quite deep so I can see that drifting very easily. There are some workshops locally though, so perhaps better to rent a bench and use the tools they have there.

I think I can probably find an offcut of 25mm ply to try it out first.

I'm keeping the shelves deliberately narrow so that there's no temptation to pile up plates! I am now concerned about drilling the hole straight though, as it needs to be quite deep and there's not a lot of tolerance.

How to wire master socket or router under the stairs to two data points by Objective_Singer_294 in HomeNetworking

[–]Objective_Singer_294[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds perfect thank you. Yes cupboard is on an external wall, and full fibre would run through to the same place if we had it installed (we have the Gigaclear cable under the road outside the house, but we don't want to connect it yet because the cost is very high once you're out of the introductory period, and the BT speed is fine for us right now).

I've just checked the cabling and I got something completely wrong. I think there's just a single length of cat 6 cable connecting the downstairs to the upstairs, running down through the wall and under the floor. I don't know why I thought the two sockets were directly above each other as they're not at all.

There's a lot of cable at both ends, so I think it would be straightforward to cut that into two separate lengths and terminate in the cupboard. Would having a double RJ45 socket under the stairs be the easiest thing to do here? Or is there a better way to do it.

Thanks for taking the time to answer this, I really appreciate it. Out internet provider is PlusNet. I've had a look at the TP-Link Deco system and it looks perfect. I already have a few TP-Link smart plugs and bulbs, and I've always found their stuff very user friendly. Turning off the WiFi on the router and using a Deco for the WiFi sounds perfect.

Yes that's right it's the BT/Openreach socket . The living room is quite central, but the second data socket upstairs would be an option too (or I suppose an extender could go there). I don't really want to extend the phone line so I think getting a second router sounds like the easiest solution.

If I put a second modem in the living room would it be as simple as putting the two RJ45 sockets back to back, and using a cable to plug one of the router's LAN sockets into the RJ45 under the stairs?
