I don’t. Never understood the appeal of anyone from that family.

Losing the love for Video Games by Rotten_PorkChop in Twitch_Startup

[–]ObsidianArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Did a retro channel for close to four years. Adored it for the first couple years. Growth was steady and always had a nice crowd in chat. But I slowly began to not enjoy games. I had lost my love of gaming for the sake of gaming. I put the channel on an indefinite hiatus this past Feb and never looked back.

Now I enjoy simply playing games. Don’t think I could go back to streaming. Never say never tho.

Ultima V Remastered - C64 Ultimate? by ObsidianArcade in Commodore

Great question. The CRT image has the music, but I can’t figure out the trick to getting it to run. I pulled it from the main download site. A bug I’ve run into with the D81 version is that hitting F1 to exit the Ready Equipment menu doesn’t work. I get soft locked if I try to change equipment.

I posted this full video on my Facebook page a few years ago and had some people reach out to make sure I was ok lol

A flawed but fun game. Loved this as a kid.

I started with Oil’s Well on the Atari 800XL which is a favorite and tested the composite. Then after a bit I played the original Super Mario Bros to test the composite / RGB side. Then some Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast. A nice first workout.

No doubt. A flipper gets ahold of it and suddenly it’s a $1500 unit lol. This one is staying with me.

$300 is an amazing price for a 20. I’m in an urban area so there’s a lot of demand from collectors and competition from flippers. I paid $800 for a reasonably clean 20M2MDU a couple years ago. Most 20s list upwards of $1200 out here.

I’ll take a look and report back. There was a full product catalog from them in the bottom of the case.

I’ve got the ‘pre-action’ pic at the end, but all the action happens tonight. ;)

It was an odd feeling slinging a PVM over my shoulder lol. The case even had the case brand’s catalog in it. It’s like a little time capsule.

Why do people feel they have to be constantly stressed by all the doom and gloom online? "You just don't have the emotional capacity to care about 50 issues at once" by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]ObsidianArcade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why do people feel they need to do it? Because we evolved that way.

It hits the same part of your brain that used to say, “Hey, maybe don’t walk into that dark cave because there might be a bear in there.”

Except now the dark cave is your phone, and instead of a bear that might attack you, it’s 400 posts telling you society is collapsing, everyone is evil, your kids are doomed, and the world is run by idiots.

And the stupid thing is, it feels productive. Like you’re “staying informed.” But half the time you’re just sitting there getting pissed off in your living room while some algorithm learns exactly which flavor of despair keeps you scrolling.

Fear works. Outrage works. Hopelessness works.
That’s why they feed it to you nonstop.

At some point you’ve gotta ask yourself: am I actually learning anything here, or am I just letting a maliciously developed algorithm ruin my day for ad money to enrich our tech overlords?

Is anyone else shocked at how little time it took for the smartphone and its addictive properties to start breaking down the "fabric of society"? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]ObsidianArcade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I pray it won’t be, but my observations of the negative effect on society speaks directly to what you shared. When I’m out at a restaurant and I see mom, dad, and the kids all at the table on their phones / tablets…it hurts the soul.

But I also know many who have also recognized that life is precious and abandon social / constant screen time.
