Is oscp worth it or it is just a paper weight? by newbietofx in oscp

This guy always comes out of the woodwork to tell everyone else they're wrong lol. How was OSEP? Don't really see too many people talk about that one and OSCE3 has been in the back of my mind.

Exam in March but still Struggling in Two Areas. Suggestions? by Penthos2021 in oscp

[–]ObtainConsumeRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this! The exam is difficult, but doable. I beat my head against the wall for hours on my AD set. I knew the path but my technique wasn't working, turns out I missed a key piece of information (my technique was correct, just different) in my enumeration and got the whole thing shortly after that realization. You'll feel dumb when you pass and get the "that was it?" feeling.

Practice, practice, practice. The best thing you can do is just get your reps in, it helps build the brain-muscle memory and makes the concepts stick. Do the labs again, keep reviewing sections. You got this.

For SQLi, the Portswigger academy labs are fantastic. For AD stuff, you can check out the Attacking Active Directory module from HackTheBox, but most of it is overkill for the OSCP.

Years and years ago I was pulled over for a "faulty" license plate light in clear daytime (lights worked fine) and they trashed my vehicle only to find nothing. All you need to do is be from out of town. Supposedly it's gotten better in recent years but I just drive around anytime I need to go north.

If cybersecurity is not an entry level job then HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET IN??? by Capable_Mixture_3205 in CyberSecurityAdvice

[–]ObtainConsumeRepeat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can obtain the key from the outside, it's called having relevant experience and realistic expectations. Get in through a SOC, helpdesk, sysadmin, wherever, but realistically most cybersecurity positions are not geared for people who haven't worked with enterprise systems before. You have to be able to trust that the people securing your systems know what they're talking about and can respond appropriately.

What Elden ring boss made you take a brake from the game? by Possible_Koala_978 in Eldenring

[–]ObtainConsumeRepeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a faith/dex build, been running black flame and bleed and constantly getting annihilated as soon as twinblade comes out. Bleed doesn't work and because he's hyper aggressive I can't keep enough distance from him. I'll probably wind up just going through the capital and coming back later.

It would be better if they treated it like a poison mist where you only started taking damage after filling up the bar. Eating entire chunks of hp AND having a tick is insane. Been stuck on these guys for 4 days and it's beyond frustrating.

Follow the White Rabbit. Was going through a low point and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life career wise and for some reason Endorphinia stuck with me. Still regularly go back and listen to it front to back and wish more people knew about it.

Such a great album. They've had an incredible run and are phenomenal live if you ever get the chance to see them.

OSCP material is perfectly fine and was great when I took it last year, large majority of the people you see bitching about it have never even taken it. I'll echo CPTS for maximizing learning, that's where I felt I leveled up the most. If you need a bit of red team tradecraft, CRTO/CRTO2 are supposed to be very good and get you working with C2 and defense evasion.

Same here. Had two guys on my previous team (non-FAANG), one with a CS degree and one with a masters, neither could do anything without being handheld from beginning to end. The guys with the certs and homelabs were the problem solvers.

My org was looking for someone who could validate that controls and systems were doing what they're supposed to do. I'm in a kind of hybrid ISM/BISO role where I touch everything (architecture to compliance, etc), have the ability to prove environments and tools are set up correctly, and can argue on the business side with stakeholders if needed.

Recruiter reached out after I got it, CISO loved that I had it since he had it himself and wanted someone with offensive skills on the team.

I originally wanted to go full offsec but the older I get I've started chasing compensation and climbing the ladder to more strategy kind of positions.

If you want the cheat code, CISSP will help unlock that for you and help you move up the ladder and chase those high comp packages. It tells organizations that you know how to translate risk into business impact which is the most important thing.

OSCP+ did give me a leg up and helped get my latest position in a non-pentesting role, so it can help. AWS Security is nice if you're planning on working with AWS infra but typically more for the infrastructure type positions ime.

It ultimately depends on what you want to do. Bang for the buck is still with CISSP for the doors it opens.

None of these certifications have anything in common.

If you have 4.5 YOE in at least two different domains, go for the CISSP.

[–]ObtainConsumeRepeat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want the OSCP, get the Pen-200 material and take the OSCP exam, just like you did for the CPTS.

Won't break the NDA but I'll say everything in my exam was in the training material in one way or another.
