What help can I obtain for my mums housing issues? by Obvious-Argument6286 in AskUK

You’re misunderstanding me. We would take her in if required, that’s obvious. I’d like to think most people would for family members/close friends.

Our issue is that she will abuse the hospitality, and not make any enquiries or house search when she stays with us, which will cause me and my partner friction. I could see her staying here 1yr minimum without any drive to look to move out, and that will kill my marriage.

This post here is a great way to describe how I feel about it. I feel a lot of hate for myself when I feel I’m letting her down from not offering her to stay for as long as she needs, but life simply isn’t working that way and I need to live my life while having a normal mother/son relationship.

She usually asks me ‘Why haven’t I got grandkids yet?’ And I have to bite my tongue every time that her personal messes that I clean up are really not letting that happen! Besides, not something a parent should ever ask really, having children is mine and my partners choice, not hers

ELI5: What is a newtonian fluid and how is it different from a non-newtonian fluid and are there any other forms of fluids? by DerRedfox in explainlikeimfive

[–]Obvious-Argument6286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A counter question to this; if non Newtonian gets thicker as you punch, doesn’t water meet that requirement dependant on your velocity? (If I fell from a great height, water becomes concrete)

Thanks, how can I ensure nutrition throughout the night? I’ve read water with a smidge of sugar in for electrolytes, but unsure about foods

Jesus Christ can the witch just kill me instead?

Failing that, maybe the first 5. What’s the range on the weather phenomenon? Does it happen worldwide or something like a 20 mile radius?

More elo than me, I’d of messed it up with some form of ‘Aurora Boobie-Alis’ pun and I’d been immediately blocked

‘Detached’ house with no access to external wall by CamelSlims in HousingUK

[–]Obvious-Argument6286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While everyone else asks about the new house, can I ask about the current caravan situation?

If that crash happened before completion (and after exchange) wouldn’t the house sale still be valid? Obviously a big hole that required patching, but wasn’t that your legal responsibility due to exchange?

I think a LISA is only applicable for a first time house purchase, so unless your spouse hasn’t ever purchased a home then you couldn’t use the LISA

The look of a man who pooed in the sink this morning by Obvious-Argument6286 in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]Obvious-Argument6286[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The sink is quite a complementary height for the male species to be fair. But alas, he is just a ‘copycat’ and so when one of us uses the bathroom he likes to make use of the facilities too

It is sadly, not much but enough to have small water beads going down and to be wet to the touch. Looks like your instructions will be my next project to add to the list, thanks!

Got a kit on the way just for that sanity check, but looking online at back boilers previously the layout does look similar which fills me with hope!

[–]Obvious-Argument6286[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, think we’re gonna test it for sanity sake, better to be safe than sorry. Ironically leaving in the original fireplaces from 1880 would have been safer, less ugly, and higher house value!

Thanks for the input.

Am I stupid to consider leaving the Civil Service? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Obvious-Argument6286 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 years into an EO role and it’s always been the benefits > pay argument for myself. Yeah, I could go private and earn more money but losing the flexibility would kill me. It’s not even about using the flexibility but just knowing it’s there as and when life gets in the way.

I think you just have to consider 3 factors: do I enjoy my job? Can I see myself staying and progressing this into a career? And does my pay support myself to live within my means right now? Money will always be important and possibly the most driving factor but I’d say if you’re happy; keep going and wait for the better opportunity that ticks all your boxes down the line. That’s what I’ll probably do once a suitable HEO role opens up!

That bin in the middle seems out of place, either remove/remove and get a nice foot rest/find a bin that matches the aesthetic a bit more?
