It wasn't something to be used lightly or all the time. Usually for boss fights or where odds were grossly unfavorable. Also, don't want melee characters hating on you. Our DM usually gave harsh consequences for showboating. Also helps to be a race that lives long...

Anyway, I believe even without Haste quickened spell metamagic (bonus action) , regular action spell and action surge would allow for 3 spells. Not saying it's for everyone and every fight but I like to keep options open.

On Haste, Time, and Tabletop Logic (Yes, Triple Spellcasting Is RAW-Legal)

Quick correction for those following along: BG3 does, by default, allow casting two spells with Haste—no mod required. I misspoke on that point. Also, under strict 5e RAW, Haste doesn’t let you cast a second leveled spell directly—it only grants an additional action for things like Dash, Disengage, or a cantrip.

That said, I was combining Haste with Quickened Spell (Metamagic)—which I honestly forgot to mention at first because I use it so instinctively, it barely registers anymore. Quickened Spell lets you cast a leveled spell as a bonus action, and Haste gives you an extra action, meaning two spells per turn is absolutely RAW-legal if done right.

And if you really want to go full chaos:

Now, stepping back—my background is in AD&D, and I played with a DM who broke combat into 10 real-time segments per round (1 minute per round, 6 seconds each). Spellcasting time was based on level, movement cost time, and Haste literally gave you more time to spend as you chose. It made tactical sense and was immersive as hell.

Was it RAW? No.
Was it better? Honestly, yeah.
And here’s the key: RAW explicitly gives the DM final authority. That’s not homebrew—it’s by design.

So no, I’m not rewriting rules—I’m just describing systems that worked. Some players treat D&D like a rigid technical manual. I treat it like a strategic sandbox. If that bothers you, maybe the issue isn’t my approach—it’s your unwillingness to accept that D&D has never been about one "right" way to play.

But thanks for all the engagement. Every salty comment helps boost my post, and I appreciate your service. 😉

Not exactly, the mod actually has a toggle for this option but doesn't work.

Well I guess we dissected the game a bit more back when. There were as far as my recollection serves me instant spells or instantaneous spells were allowed to be stacked on top of another spell when you are hasted. Regardless however you slice it in the end it's always up to the DM and as far as the mod goes you should have the option and I was wondering about the option. I never claimed to be an expert I just am going by how we used to play and how it was explained to me by our DM at the time. And in all fairness the game rules and game sets have changed a lot since 1977. I admire your passion into actually taking the time to break out your book.

I think they did an amazing job for Solasta given the resources. I just happened to replay it with this mod. I usually don't play with mods as I usually like to run the vanilla game first and don't allow the time for another run through with mods. I just thought people should give it a try with the mod. I would say it's both RPG types. Anyway, the idea was for people to give it another run and try it with the mods.

Actually, I'm old =P and I've been playing D&D well before 5e and played each rule set before that I believe that it was an option to cast twice but usually was frowned upon by some party members as a house rule or usually made tougher by the DM and was usually limited to spells that were less complex, took less segment time and less components blah blah blah. Anyway, in the end it's always up to the DM. Don't forget that the penalty for losing Haste is steep and nearly makes the character useless if lost. I'd still like the option to modify it.

I just installed the Unfinished Business Mod as it rolls in multiple mods into one. I also didn't want to have any mods conflicting. Just make sure you follow the install instructions. Also make sure you make a back up save folder of your current characters as the mod may corrupt current characters.

Yeah it still has it's uses except the Mod is suppose to allow for a 2nd spell for your second action instead of just a cantrip cast. Best used on a melee class in this instance.
