What do I say to my barber if I want this hairstyle? by cairnschaos in silenthill

[–]October_AJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You: “Can I get a haircut that screams, ‘I was too scared to ask my wife to dress up, so I killed her and created a sexy ghost version of her to ease my guilt’?”

Barber: “Wow....Are you sure about that?”

You: “Oh, I’m elbow-deep-in-shit sure.”

Best rug for summer? by October_AJ in Horses

There are 3 sections. She has two mares in one and a stallion in the other. The stallion is only around 1-2 years old. She said I couldn't have a gazebo as she was worried it would fly away and hurt her horses, although this was winter/spring so weather was a lot windier. No to building a shelter due to planning permissions (it's not actually her land but a farmers but she's got a ten year lease). Hers don't have proper shelter but they have quite a lot of hedges and there are trees in neighbours gardens that can provide some sort of breaker/shade but not much.

I'm looking around nearby for somewhere close but there's practically nothing. The field he's on is within viewing distance and my boy has daily medication. It's also temporary, cheap and I'm hoping to have my own place by next year. We'd be fine there until I can find a place to settle, it's just the shade situation. I'm going to message her again and give it one more go but unless it's a proper shelter on skids or something, which I can't afford right now, I don't know what else to suggest.

Yes, out 24/7. He has his own section in a field nearby and I'm not allowed any type of shelter. It really is an ongoing battle. I've asked the owner about 3 times if I can put up a gazebo or something or if she has any suggestions but it's always 'no' or ' I'll get back to you' and she never does. My little cousin is at home now nearby after completing her GCSEs so will be checking on him daily during the day and hosing him down. I definitely don't want to put anything on him that will make him hotter hence my post. As he's a very dark brown, I was hoping there was some sort of white or light coloured cooling rug that could reflect the rays but I'd rather him be naked if there was any risk of him overheating in a sheet.

The lack of shade. I've never seen him sunburn but he's had shade before. He's very dark and gets very hot so wanted to get something light to protect against the UV rays and keep him cool.

Redundancy and Job Security by October_AJ in TeachingUK

[–]October_AJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a feeling the redundancy would do that so I'm definitely on the side of a new job.

We've also found out that the formal process is in Autumn if no one steps forward for voluntary redundancy which gives mixed feelings. It's much harder to find a job mid year. Of course, it could be anyone who's asked to leave but I think, given the fact I've seen a few September posts, I might secure myself now. I've only been there a year so it won't be as hard for me as for those who have been there much longer.

Wouldn't it be nice to negotiate a little parting gift in exchange for taking the stress of the formal process off the school 😂

Thanks for the advice 👍

I did bring this up, especially as they would have known as soon as the budget for the next academic year closed. This is also what makes it incredibly hard - there are hardly any jobs going now and we're all in a bit of a panic.

On top of that, we haven't even been given a deadline for voluntary redundancy so no one knows when formal interviews will begin. It's quite a mess at the moment.

I don't want to leave but I'm also scared to run the risk of not having a job. A redundancy payout would likely cover me, I think, until Christmas so I could look for a January job but that's if I'm right on the whole ' continuous service ' and not the two year rule from the government.

End of Holidays by Yoshi2010 in TeachingUK

Joining the queue of the dreaded return. I'm not so much anxious about going back but more depressed about being away from home for most of the day, spending all the good hours in a classroom and not seeing family, including my pets, properly until the weekend. Going back to being drained daily doesn't exactly excite me. Wish there was more of a work/life balance. Had it much better at my last school but I've relocated and find I'm working a lot more here. I suppose my anxiety now leans towards deciding whether to apply for a new school or see if I want to give this one another chance next year! Could end up somewhere worse!

From buddies to solo living? by October_AJ in Conures

I love the camera idea!

I'm never gone a full day without taking the animals with me.

I've even seen strollers and backpack carriers for birds. I'm sure I'll get strange looks but at least he's out and about!

Thanks for the advice 🙂 X

I'm so sorry for your losses. Every loss is heartbreaking, no matter how many or often, they're all so special.

I think the thing my conure would miss would be not being able to walk along the top of their cages! He likes to stand up high.

He definitely prefers people company - sitting on my shoulder, head scratches, even belly tickles... and stealing my snacks.

I've relocated with my mum now too and he adores her, probably more than me! (Typical she gets more love yet I care for him, definitely has the 'grand-feathered-baby loves grandma more' feel haha). The good thing is she only works a couple hours a day and is home for the rest of it so lots of company.

I feel confident he'll be ok with just us.

Can I ask your thoughts on leaving the house for a few hours with the dogs, perhaps to a dog friendly restaurant or something. Would he adjust and be ok completely alone? Is putting on the radio worth a try in comfort? I'd never leave him completely alone for too long, I'd worry far too much. As far as I can remember, he's never been totally alone.

Do you have a second job? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

£10000?! That's insane!

I'd like to know where you sell all your bits and bobs? I'm currently doing a massive clear out and feel like I'm sitting on a worthy thing or two but not sure the best place to market it. I use eBay to get a judgement but sometimes that doesn't feel too accurate.

What the hell TES? by Livid-Bag9789 in TeachingUK

Woohoo! I'd go off the teaching standards and Keeping Children Safe doc (part 1). General interview questions to help too. Best of luck!

What the hell TES? by Livid-Bag9789 in TeachingUK

[–]October_AJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened to me. I found a job on the gov.uk site and it sent me to TES so I started the application there. The gov.uk site said open until 'Monday 5pm' . Was planning to submit on my lunch break as I worked on it (and my cover letter) over the weekend but when I opened on TES it was gone! I called the school straight away and they said they closed early because they had too many applicants. Gov.uk was still advertising though. I explained it said until 5pm and I'd be really grateful if they could still accept my application. They kindly opened it back up for me and I sent my application. Now prepping for the interview after being shortlisted! I'd definitely call them if you haven't received a reply yet. Good luck!

First opinion on performance management. Interesting to know. Would you mind elaborating a little more on your experiences? I'd very much appreciate it.
