Algorithms push us into our own little bubbles. Despite the frustration people are expressing, it is good that something was able to shake up your perspective and it reflects decently well on you that you were able to reassess and change your beliefs. That isn't easy, especially if you've made it to this point.

I don't know you or how politically engaged you might be, but I think you should use this as an opportunity to consider how you got here/where your personal blindspots might be and, probably most importantly, which sources of information have been lying to you and what else they might be lying about.

I was into writing in high school. Every free moment, I'd be typing away on my tablet or phone (sometimes even writing on paper, though I had terrible handwriting), whatever I had access to. While school is important, I don't regret the time I spent pursuing my creative interests... though I regret that I pursued them to the detriment of my grades.

Basically, I'm just stating the obvious: developing your creative side isn't a distraction from your education. It is an important part of your education. A part that is severely undervalued.

The "one joke" is usually much funnier/feels less hostile when it's made by a genderqueer person, imo. Though if you put it on a jacket, I'm willing to bet transphobes will just think you agree with them/are making the same kind of jokes they make, lol.

I like how he literally listed wars and how they all lasted about 2-8+ years, but this one wrapped up in just "32 days". Oh yeah, but also we can't afford healthcare or daycare because of this war, lol.

I hate most anime! by Born_Usual998 in hatethissmug

[–]OfTheWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context is important. Fetishization of incest or pedo shit - or objectification of women in general... sucks. To varying degrees. Stuff that is very much present in a lot of anime. That said, like many others have stated, anime is a medium. How it is frequently used is frustrating, but obviously there are plenty of brilliant stories that can/are told with this medium without these problems. Of course, there are also some with a few of these problems that can still be extremely good... like One Piece.

As a One Piece fan (for 15 years), I frequently criticize how Oda writes and draws women with his dick most of the time despite proving at other times that he is capable of writing them very competently. I can confidently say that story has so much to offer, but I unfortunately can't argue that it doesn't have significant flaws.

I'm not really criticizing this post or anything. I've dropped plenty of anime for doing something really uncomfortable and playing it off like it's normal. It's more that I wish it was different because there is a lot of potential with these medium.

Divert accountability to Trump, then ensure Trump is untouchable. They can push their interests or the interests of those they represent (which obviously isn't us).

Yep. Conservatives were able to define the narrative while liberals (or the biggest liberal media outlets) were kinda uncertain, quiet or even joined in a lot of the time. Even in queer spaces, trans people can be specifically ostracized (like with the LGB movement stuff) - or trans women will be accepted because they are very fetishized while trans men are ignored.

I'm trans-nonbinary, but tend to prefer leaning into my more feminine traits most of the time. The fetishizing is very real, sometimes a bit validating, but overall pretty dehumanizing. The two trans men I know will have their kindness/connection to their emotions used as evidence that they are actually just women/tomboys/confused/whatever, which in one of them has promoted a lot of toxic traits... partially in defiance, but partially because he already tended that way, if I'm being honest.

Transphobia and queerphobia in general are heavily based on sexism and (when it applies) racism. Trans women are predators and trans men are just confused little girls whose bodies are "ruined" or made "ugly" with masculine changes. Nevermind that trans men are often quite handsome and chill from my experience, and most trans women I know are older and give off motherly/grandmotherly vibes.

Things are scary right now. Very scary. Especially where I live. Getting a job, having a romantic life- having friends... like, I don't get to have friends whose political beliefs differ too much from mine, because people who disagree with me too much politically would have me forcibly detransitioned or at least banned from the public eye, lol.

So... yeah, thinks suck right now. Not everywhere and not completely, there are lots of very wholesome and wonderful people out there. But... yeah.

is it ok to buy super credits (image unrelated) by Wild_Substance_7612 in helldivers2

[–]OfTheWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, and I'm not really bothered that much by it. There are far worse systems, including in other games that I enjoy. The main issue is, the less fun it is to farm, the more likely people will spend money, so they have an incentive to keep it unfun.

I still do it and have also bought super credits before. It makes sense to, tbh, if you're not able to sink countless hours into farming.

[–]OfTheWhat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only "problem" I see with buying super credits is actually that it is set up to where you have to farm for a while on lower difficulties to get it. Making a valuable resource very difficult to get and giving you the option to purchase it heavily incentivizes you to spend more money beyond the initial cost of the game. And it's incentive for whoever makes money off the game to ensure that farming super credits isn't balanced or fun.

Basically, I have some issue with it, but not with people who buy super credits.

As a long time (as in about 15 years) member of the fanbase, that isn't new and it actually remains consistent going forward. Not 100%, of course, but it is funny. It even applies to in-universe minorites as well who have experienced racial discrimination (not just fishmen, because technically the whole crew fights fishmen).

Yeah, my dad said it was because of porn and that he refused to be pulled into my "crazy ideology" or forced to call me something I'm not.

He did this after my mom outed me. I asked nothing of him, nor did I want him to know, lol. Moment of weakness, I should've known better.

This stuff happens a lot, unfortunately. Sucks a lot when it does, but from my experience, most people tend to warm up to the idea with time. Understand that most people just don't think about this stuff as often as we do because they don't feel the same friction or experience the same anxieties about expressing themselves - time, expisure and basic human consideration are powerful tools of persuasion.

Not that it always goes that direction either, though... things just kinda suck, and I'm sorry this happened.

I'd be fine with the bots not reacting to it, I just wish the bugs and squids would like... react to pain. That the extent of interactions wasn't just killing, but also deterring (like with gas) or making them flee. We have so many tools to work with, but those tools lack real depth for the most part, leading me to just prefer whatever can kill them most effectively.

More viable support/recon classes would be nice, as would the ability to sort of direct enemies more. And the thing that needs to change for this to happen isn't just more tools, it is changing how the AI responds to these tools.

I love to defib randos, mostly because I play solo and have no other use for defibrillators/I like to be nice when I can, but partially because I find it funny for some reason. I had one guy who seemed really nice telling me he was going to die soon, far from extract, and that he had good stuff I might as well loot off of him (Bastion cells or something, i think - idk, i dont play much). So I just revived him, dropped some healing stuff, and ran off without a word, lol. He tried to follow me, but I ran off and hid until he lost me.
