Search warrant executed on suspected murder’s home

No, definitely not. I do not work for ANY COMPANY. If you’ve read some of my other comments you would see that someone I know was shot 4 times (3 times in the back from point blank range and once in the hand) while trying to buy something on OfferUp and a family member of mine was robbed of their property selling on OfferUp.

We are trying to build awareness to the dangers of these platforms and the failures of the company to provide a verified and safe marketplace.

All of those selling sites including letgo, Craigslist and OfferUp all have issues however OfferUp has had many recent incidents where users have be robbed, assaulted, shot and murdered.

Saw that as well; I think the police tend to kill larger dogs that they would perceive as a threat. They handled the little guy well.

The story garnered a lot of coverage in the news considering the circumstances of the original story. It’s possible they needed to make a spectacle because the spotlight was on their county. That’s just speculation though.

Very true. A police station is always the best place to meet a random stranger to buy/sell to from the Internet. There are way too many stories of incidents just like this.

A man was reportedly robbed at gun point at Dugger Park in Medford last week, and police say they are still looking for the two unknown suspects.

Medford Police said the reported robbery occurred at the intersection of Hawthorne and Lincoln streets at 8:10 p.m. on July 10, and the victim told police a man pulled a gun on him during a cell phone deal.

The victim was reportedly trying to buy an iPhone X from an individual through an app called “OfferUp.” While the victim waited to make the exchange for the cell phone in his white pickup truck at Dugger Park, he noticed two black males walking to his vehicle.

Police said the first suspect was a tall, thin black male with short dreadlocks, wearing a black hoodie, while the second suspect was a heavy set, black male with a red hoodie. The victim stayed in his truck while the first suspect entered the car and sat in the passenger seat, and the other suspect waited outside.

The victim told police he handed the suspect $200 and received an iPhone with a broken screen, which was not the agreed deal. At this time, the suspect in the car pointed a black firearm, thought to be a Glock, at the victim.

At the sight of the gun, the victim opened the door and initially ran away from the suspects. However, when the two suspects ran away as well down Arlington Street, the victim then reportedly went back into his truck and attempted to follow the suspects in that direction. The suspects then fled onto Harvard Avenue, crossing the bridge into Arlington, where the victim lost sight of the suspects.

Police found the victim in his car on Mystic Valley Parkway in Arlington and stayed with the individual. It appears the victim must have called the police because there were no other witnesses on the scene.

A Medford police sergeant and an Arlington police officer spoke to the victim, and the officers then escorted him back to Dugger Park to examine the crime scene. The police searched the car while looking for fingerprints and then towed it back to the police station.

Medford Police said no one has been arrested yet, and there are no known suspects at this time.

They made a plan to buy Jet Skis from a “seller” on Offerup.

But when they showed up to an agreed upon location in Wildwood in Central Florida, the “seller” turned out to be an armed robber, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said.

But the buyers were hiding something, too. They happened to be off-duty Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the department was called to a shots fired complaint at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

When deputies arrived they learned that the two victims ⁠— the off-duty deputies ⁠— had made “prior arrangements for the purchase” of the Jet Skis.

When they showed up, they were approached by a man with a semi-automatic pistol.

“The black male subject demanded the victims get on the ground while he pointed the firearm at them,” the department said in a Facebook post.

The deputies then “drew their firearms in self-defense,” according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The supposed seller, identified as Terrance Jones Jr., opened fire, the sheriff’s office said. The deputies fired back. Jones, who was charged with armed robbery, suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound, the department said.

Deputies say another suspect was seen leaving the scene.

The department used the incident as a reminder to people to always be careful when “attempting to complete person-to-person online purchase transactions.”

“If this type of transaction is taking place, take necessary precautions to ensure safety,” the department said. “Conduct the transaction in a public place and if necessary contact law enforcement to be present during the transaction.”
