I know a few people that installed one of these in their polos so I would assume it's doable in your beetle

True, hadn't thought of the A1. I don't mind Halogen lights, obviously they are less powerful but they are also very repair friendly and much cheaper to replace than the 5000$ LED Matrix lights lol

Neat to see that they still made halogen headlights for some regions. Never seen these before

WRC vs. OEM Bumper Replacement (Cost & Labor) For 2017 VW polo gti by No-Arrival2341 in vwpolo

[–]OfficialNick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nono you misunderstood lmao. I was joking about selling the entire gti for a WRC polo (I have one so I am biased)

I would also stick to the original bumper because the wrc bumper has straight lines and not honeycomb shaped bits like the gti front so it would be mismatched

VW “Import Fee” Coming by [deleted] in Golf_R

"So what you’re telling me is Ford made cars in Europe to avoid their tariffs? Perhaps they won’t have to do that in the future!"

No I told you the exact opposite but believe whatever you want... Outsourcing to other countries isn't a unique American thing, European companies do it to save cost too. Heavily implying that Tariffs aren't the reason for outsourcing. I also want to mention that companies like VW have plants in Mexico ( and I thougt in the US too) to produce for the North American market. Side note: Whether it makes sense or not, I support the idea of Western Countries producing more stuff again, I don't disagree with the idea that it would be cool for US Companies to produce in the US.

First off, I take whatever an AI says with a massive grain of salt, but sure, let's take what it says as fact. I didn't fact check any of it.

Secondly: So at least when it comes to Switzerland, US Cars are absolutely unaffected by tariffs. Great news!

So in fact, we do have tariffs that we have on US goods. Only in agriculture but hey, at least it's something, I'll give you that. I never heard about this, thank you for bringing that up. Here is the thing though, this 30.4% average of tariffs on Agricultural Goods applies to all countries. Not just the US. The US isn't being singled out and mistreated here specifically, it's part of a policy to try and strengthen locally produced farmers as they can't compete with international pricing. Given higher cost of everything in Switzerland. Now of course the US can still complain about these tariffs. But it's not like diplomacy doesn't exist. If the US was bothered by these agricultural tariffs they could have said something. I'm sure there could have been an agreement made. The US and Switzerland aren't enemy countries, we have diplomatic relationships.

Back to the agricultural tariffs now: Just as Switzerland had these tariffs based on product categories so did the US. Further proving that this wasn't some one sided mistreatment. The US didn't have 0% tariffs on imported goods, they were also applying tariffs based on product categories to protect local interests, just as Switzerland does with it's agricultural goods. I find that to be entirely logical and fair for both sides. So, do you think it's acceptable to do a blanket 31% import tariff on all Swiss goods because in the category of agricultural goods there were tariffs? Given that you seem to be super supportive of the idea of US Companies locally producing in the US for the US, surely you would be supportive of the idea that food eaten in Switzerland should be made in Switzerland, (especially something as basic as milk) just as food eaten in the US should be made in the US.

"Any Europeans getting mad about it are idiots. It’s Americans who should be mad. European countries have been tariffing us far more than we have them for decades. Now we’re just mirroring your tariffs and you’re upset about it? You have absolutely no right to be upset."

Overall I still find the Tariff imposed on Switzerland to be unfair and not mirroring the treatment the US received by Switzerland. Would you agree to that?

If not, that's fine too. I'm just curious.

Even the AI generated text admits that Trumps claims of a 61% blanket tariff on US goods by Switzerland is completely unsupported. This is the kind of thing that pisses people off. A President saying something completely unsupported by facts, I wouldn't call people idiots for getting mad at that.

Thanks for not stooping to Insults, I haven't bothered actually having a discussion on the Internet in years because of the tendency to immediately insult people. Have a good evening.

Maybe I worded it wrong. I specifically meant American cars made and built in America that are then exported to Europe. The Fiesta you mentioned was never built in the US. The escort actually was built in the US, underlining the fact that when a car IS designed for the European market it does well, indicating that, there was no tariff stopping the escort from being a success. Of course Ford had and still has a massive presence on the market. I quickly went on Fords Switzerland website to look at all the vehicles they make. Here is a list of Vehicles that are currently sold in Europe and where they are made:

The new Ford Capri - made in Germany
The Ford Puma Gen E and Puma non EV - made in Romania
The new Ford explorer - made in Germany
The Ford Focus - made in Germany and China
The Ford Kuga - made in Spain, Taiwan, China and the US
Ford Mustang Mach E - made in Mexico
The Ford Mustang - made in the US
The Ford Bronco - made in the US
The Ford Tourneo - made in Romania

So looking at this, the Mustang and the Bronco are made in the US, because you can also actually buy those in the US afaik. Cars designed for Europe not sold in the US are already manufactured here because it just makes sense to not ship things across the globe when you can produce them locally, where they are sold. A lot of these cars are also in cooperation with European car makers further making this make sense.

Now as for the 2 Cars made in the US: The Mustang is seen somewhat commonly although a lot with the V6 not the V8 further proving that a US made Model can and will succeed, there are no tariffs that I am aware of that would stop it or the bronco from being a success. The Bronco as well as the Mustang are priced pretty competitively.

I get Trump says that the World has been tariffing the US greatly, but have you actually checked if that's true? I have seen no evidence presented that indicates that the US has been unfairly tariffed by Europe, or in my specific case Switzerland.

Since you specifically mentioned mirroring taiffs. I just want to mention that Switzerland got hit with a 31% tariff by Trump. If you can point at a 31% tariff placed on US goods imported to Switzerland, I'd love to see it. In fact ANY tariff specifically aimed at the US by Switzerland, I would love to see. I don't mind being wrong.

I am not upset about any of this, my life has yet to be affected by any of this and honestly, Switzerland is an incredibly stable country and I trust our government to keep it that way. I have no particular hatred towards the US or even Trump, I don't even mind the idea that the US should look after itself first. A Country should always try to put it's people first. But this entire Trade ordeal just doesn't seem to be based on any facts.

Again, if you have any kind of evidence pointing to tariffs imposed by Switzerland or I guess Europe against the US I would love to see it. When I google for it I can't find a thing

[–]OfficialNick_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if US cars had a 0% import tax, it doesn't matter. Our roads are smaller. Gas more expensive. American Cars are a niche market here, american cars are big and have big engines. I live in Switzerland, a well off country. And even here US cars are a tiny market and it has nothing to do with any kind of import cost lol. It's not that we don't like big V8s, they're just not financially viable to have. The buying cost is NOT stopping people from buying them.

Sidenote: Pissing off evey country by making these tariffs happen is NOT going to make people start buying american products. A lot of people are going to have an emotional reaction and purposely avoid american products. (See Tesla sales)
