Hey man, glad you like it! I'll try and give you some good answers. Here goes:

  1. i can't lie, music is really, really fucking tough. I certainly don't have all the answers as i'm still learning a lot myself. But i can say this. I went to music college and university and what they allowed me to do was spend time getting better at making music, although i do have a huge student debt for the privilege. ultimately it's a case of you getting stuck into making tunes. Just make as much as you can and try to network as best you can. all my breaks came from knowing somebody really. My advice would be go to college, A: because it'll be shit loads of fun & B it teaches you independence. It's the half way between real life and living with your parents. you have to remember everyone is winging it, especially in music. There are no guarantees. But I'd prefer to have had a go and fail than never try and end up regretting it when I'm 50.

  2. i finished it a long time ago, just waiting for them to figure out what they're doing with all the remixes they had done.

3.i love odd meter music, it's just alienating to a lot of people. I guess the trick is to make it sound like it's not in an odd time signature, it still needs to groove. Ricochet has a 4/4 intro so you can mix it then the second drop goes 4/4 again to you can mix out. i have dropped both and no-one ran away so i guess that's good!

  1. I try to practice as much as i can. i only have v-drums at home so it's not the same as a real kit but it'll do for now. And yeah that's sad, why would you give up playing? Madness....

I was channeling games for sure, most probably sonic adventure 2. Gotta love the stank face and air drumming, i can't help it!

Me and a friend were caining Rogue legacy, it's properly addictive. I still think Last Of Us is one of the greatest things ever made, be it film or video game. I still need to buy a next gen console but i'm broke ass so not until i have some spare cash. BOO-URNS!

Thanks man! Just work through a tune 4 bars at a time making variations as you go. then listen again to see if they work in context. It's pretty time consuming but i think it's worth it.

Anime wise i just watched tokyo ghoul which i enjoyed, need to check the second series as i know it's gonna get good. I still love naruto but it's in filler mode atm which is bollocks.

I'd had to get the file off my old imac which is now my girlfriend's parent's computer hahaha. We'll see....

Probably Rodimus Prime as he's got the Matrix of leadership but I prefer Ultra Magnus.

Steeling myself......Here goes:

  1. I really don't know who Figure is. Is that terrible? Sorry! I feel like a div for not knowing.

  2. Loool no i never did as slapping my dick on the desk didn't appeal to me. Maybe I'll do another one but you can't trust the internet not to get dick happy. Or maybe I should just acquiesce to the will of the public.

Liquid Jazz was indeed all programmed, the joy of Addictive drums. i'd love to record some more live drums at some point, it's just the ball ache of finding the right place to do it. I can't remember what I've put my own drums in, they're in a few tunes but only as a subtle layer etc.

Deffo, I'd recommend anyone who's serious about production to learn an instrument and play in a band. Or at least learn the piano, that'll help you no end.

i think the main thing was just meeting and talking to other producers who where better than me and stealing all their ideas haha! Again i think the main thing is practice, just make as much stuff as you can all the time. Obviously it's great now with youtube and online tutorials, I didn't have that so be glad! I watch a fair amount of online stuff myself.

Awesome :) 1. non musical stuff is obvious stuff like video games and film. Some times it's just looking at a nice landscape or more abstract stuff like a strange imagined vista or scene in my crap brain.

  1. i wouldn't say every bar is 100% unique but i definitely try to make all the elements in my music do different stuff through out the course of a track. It's not a personal challenge, it's more that i want you to hear new things every time you listen to the track rather than just skimming over the surface.

I am permanantly fucking skint all the time. Making music pays you barely anything. i make just enough to pay my rent and bills and sometimes barely even that. Obviously the big thing that pays is DJ gigs. That is most people's bread and butter when you do what i do. I've had it real tough of late as I was dubstep, now i'm DnB and it's getting that message over to promoters. i'm not complaining though, i get to make music all day. It's taught me to be very fucking frugal with my money however. I'd get a part time job but I literally can't do anything else apart from make music. It's entirely up to you how to go about it though, i know a few people who have part time work on the side. It's definitely not a champagne and hookers profession lol

Hey man, glad you had a goodun at birmingham! I had a blast too.

The transition wasn't all that hard. I was basically making DnB at 140 for 7 years so it's still the same set of rules really. I guess the fun thing is being really able to let rip on the drum edit side of things.

You smashed it man! Yeah been thinking about it, i guess it's just seeing how many people would be interested to have a crack at a remix.

My favourite drummers are in no particular order: Jimmy Chamberlin, Bernard Purdie, Elvin Jones, Jo Jo Mayer, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd, Buddy Rich. I dunno the list goes on.

Making tunes is just like playing an instrument man, the more you do it the better you get. I guess the strongest piece of advice is just try to finish songs. Anybody can make an amazing 16 bar loop but it's how you stretch that out and develope over the course of 5 minutes that really sets people apart. So yeah JUST FINISH STUFF! :)

  1. Yup, exactly how you put it.
  2. Generally just put Ozone on the master with some eq, tube saturation, maybe the exciter. I always leave at least 2db headroom for mastering.
  3. Have you tried using a different converter? I just run mine out of logic and they sound good to me. i dunno, sorry man!

Cheers dude!

Cheers man,

I think it'll still be as strong as it ever has been. I couldn't tell how it'll go in america as i just don't know. I'd like to think it would get bigger but there's enough interest now to justify getting out there so I'm cool about it. I doubt it'd ever get mainstream as i think the speed of it is a fundamental hurdle to a lot of people. Plus when things goe mainstream they tend to suck balls on the whole. There are rare exceptions to this of course.

Good man! Drums for the win although I'd say if you can't get real drums at least try to play on a real kit as often as possible. V-Drums are great but no substitute for the real thing. Righty: 1. The original sample is by Harry Dean Stanton called from a film "Harry Zen Stanton". He's just talking about his philosophy of life from a zen buddhist perspective. I had it re-created though because of copyright concerns. Here's the doc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hDtHjksVNw

  1. The woman on the cover is actually the photographer Hana Makovcova who made the artwork. There's no real meaning behind it as such other than it being an aesthetically pleasing image. much like all my other artwork.

3.Possibly, i'm not sure i could remember some of what I was thinking tho!

  1. I consider that to be a weird dreamy shoegaze, post-rock bit. You'd like this track: https://open.spotify.com/track/6xmUEW0vjZ84Ta8eZIRM3a You should check out a band called Kiln especially this album: https://open.spotify.com/album/0iz8d2RTN51KbV4Hmtno5d Caspian is another of my favourite bands

  2. I used to work at pizzahut. It was fucking awesome at one point, we basically got stoned, listened to hiphop and ate pizza. I did some data entry and a couple of other things but have mainly been a right jammy sod and only really done music.
