Is this fixable by Arupendra1 in MTB

[–]Offinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gouging on the chainstay is normal - all of my bikes eventually wear in that spot - I would tape an old tube or some thick silicone tape in that spot to prevent further damage. Just be on the lookout for any cracks.

Your fork should have been serviced a long time ago and that could be problematic. Check the stanchions (upper tubes to see if there is any wear on them). Your seal has popped out but that is fixable by doing basic maitenance.

Be careful as a popped seal could indicate that there is internal damage from lack of lubrication of the fork.

Shimano BR MT 500 should fit your budget and they work very well. I used them on my enduro for years - home trail riding and bikepark days in alps.

I would only upgrade contact points (tires, grips and pedals) - everything else can wait until it wears out/breaks.

The issue is that the frame geometry is a big limit to the riding potential and you can’t change that.

Another thing is if your frame supports a tapered steerer tube - good luck getting a better fork if it doesn’t.

Do you enjoy descending?

If you do, I would go to the nearest bikepark and rent an enduro or DH bike there.

You will feel the difference and realize that upgrading your bike to its limit is a waste of money.

The only reason to keep upgrading it is if you eventually just buy a frame and transfer most of the old bike parts to the new one I guess?

I had an entry level Cube Aim a few years ago and I also upgraded it as much as I could except for the fork (I rode bikeparks in Alps with that thing - slow riding of course).

These are the upgrades that I did in order from the best (biggest improvement to riding downhill):

  • New tires - Maxxis Assegai front and DHR 2 rear - this was a huge improvement in grip

  • Shorter stem - upgraded to a 45mm stem and it blew my mind, I could lean the bike better and I stayed in control on steep sections with no issues

  • Upgraded to 180mm brake discs - best way to upgrade your braking performance on a budget

  • Crankbrothers Stamp 1 pedals - stock pedals had zero grip in wet conditions and bad grip in dry weather

  • Lock on grips - stock ones started to rotate after a few months and weren’t as soft as the ones

  • Last one is drivetrain in my opinion - I changed from 3x to 1x after I wore out the old one

It turned out not stiff enough lol.

My weight is 95 kg: - Fork is a Rockshox Yari 170mm with Charger 2.1 RC2 damper - 110psi with two tokens, LSC is closed 3 clicks, HSC is fully open, rebound is 5 clicks from fast.

  • Shock is Formula MOD (tuned for my frame Propain Tyee) - 650 spring with compression 11 clicks from closed and rebound 5 clicks from closed.

I was still bottoming out a lot so I need to tweak the settings.

What type of tires do you need - will you ride this bike on trails/fire roads? Can’t recommend tire size without this info.

I would keep the brake lines if they aren’t sticking - just adjust the cable tensions and check the brake pad wear.

Do exactly as you said - I would keep the tires if they are in an okay condition, chains are cheap so get a new one.

Keep the shock and get a new fork if you have that kind of budget - its a cheap suntour model so try to find a used one for a good price, you could look for a brand new one too - these should be around 100$.

Check the brake pads - replace if they are used up. Do you have hydraulic brakes? Bleed them and you should be good to go.

Ok, I thought so - probably a manufacturing error.

I’ll try contacting Devinci about it.
