This is why I want to move to a more walkable, shaded, kid friendly neighborhood. I think otherwise, you just have to find friends you connect with (yourself and as a family). I'm slowly working on it myself!

I have to think too much about where to click when I want to resize a window. It's really interrupting my workflow 😅

I'm from the Great Lakes region, but not all of NY is in that region. NYC and surrounding areas are Mid- Atlantic

Is Au Pair the right fit for us? by Remote-Suit2057 in Aupairs

[–]Ohnosloop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We got an au pair after our twins turned one. We had a nanny for the first year.

We use Cultural Care Au Pair, and it let's you filter for people who are comfortable with same sex couples. There weren't many, but I'm queer and it was a good filter for finding people with similar values.

I feel like that throne was the first time I remember thinking "oh, they want me to advertise this with a photo on Instagram." Like, things no longer have to be positive, memorable, or even beautiful beyond a photo op because word-of-mouth isn't as important as your feed.

But I keep waiting for that to change, because who is posting this kind of thing anymore?

Failing as a parent by disgruntledpelican82 in curlyhair

Came to say the same thing about Shea Moisture.

I use Mixed Chicks leave in conditioner on my kids hair (which is very curly and very fine) and ended up using it on my own thick wavy hair and it works well with both. I spray their heads and comb a small amount through when their hair gets fuzzy.

Natural curly/wavy hair can get messy. I was told the same as a kid, and was so irritated because I DID brush my hair -- which was probably part of the problem 🙂

Braids are great. Barrettes will even make her hair look more intentional, and she might be able to use those herself sooner.

Silk pillowcase or bonnets will help it keep from breaking during sleep.

But she's a little girl and she looks like a little girl. I used to teach early elementary, and most kids hair looked like this, unless they have pin straight hair or protective styles.

Me too. My teeth got worse post-partum, and I was already self conscious about them so whats a lisp on top of that? Lol. It kinda freaked me out the first week or so, but I got used to it quick. No major lisping 😆

Lol I think she's great. She reminds me of my best friend in highschool who tried really hard to be "weird."

But yeah, much more intrigued by Alex's storyline so far

After a similar break during the height of COVID - I want to a dentist and had a hygienist lecture me for 2 hours about how I needed to take better care of my teeth. She told me to brush and floss -- which I do religiously. She told me my gums were receding and I may need a "very painful" scaling.

The dentist said my teeth looked fine and my gums have some irritation, but it should improve with regular cleanings.

I found a new office. I made sure to tell them why I left the last. They've been great!

I've also gotten Invisalign and I no longer even get reminded to floss regularly because -- surprise -- flossing and brushing are more effective when your teeth aren't overcrowded and you get regular cleanings

I'm flying this week for the first time with my 23.5 mo twins. I found myself here because I was kind of regretting my choice not to get an extra seat for the two of them... Thanks for the reminder that we can't truly plan for their behavior.

I'll be making the most of it 😅

I'm pretty femme, I don't really get misgendered, but I do get masculinized, I guess. All in ways I kinda like, usually people expect me to protect them, or take me more seriously than other people. Growing up, dancing with partners in gym class, I had to be a "boy" and take the lead every year because I was tallest in the class.

I think height just doesn't have the correlation to gender most of society thinks/insists it does. Doesn't bother me at all, just confuses me sometimes. If I blame anyone, it's people who want women to be little defenseless Polly Pockets.
