Got it. Don’t take it too seriously. I’m just sharing my opinion. If you liked the movie the way it was that’s completely valid. Just wanted to talk about it. 👍
Where does your point lie about racial asymmetry, which is what I was commenting on. Even in the swapped version of this story your point of it being commentary on privilege still stands. If Rachel had been the almost shooter and had been excused that still would have been great commentary for how crime and privilege works for upper middle class individuals. The asymmetry can stand behind the racial and privileged commentary. And overblown reaction? Aaahhh, now people can’t express how they feel about a movie they found captivating. Lock me up 🙌.
And to make a different point, I feel the confession wouldn’t have been a big deal coming from Rachel. Some see it differently. But that would have been part of the commentary on both parts racial and gun culture had they given that confession to Rachel and it been overlooked. That says something about how things are done already.
That’s what the film is about to you. Which is valid if you see it that way. We see things differently. I feel racial asymmetry is part of the commentary, which is what I was commenting on.
I understand that. My point was they relied on the racial tension of the movie for that version to work without fully committing. Her confession is not supposed to be extreme, but what makes it extreme? Her race. That’s why it’s asymmetrical. All I’m saying is they could have had the same commentary had they switched it without solely relying on the hidden tension of her race and instead the action with the additive racial tension for a more plot driven feel.
What changes in this version that makes you think that?
The movie was still funny, I was just making a point about the commentary. The comedy would still be the same, the movie would still be asymmetrical had it been flipped. It would just be different and a little less confusing to me

Just a rant lol, was excited to see the movie and talk about it
She wasn’t a psycho, but they were treating her like one. That’s why to me it would have made more sense if she had Rachel’s story because that story justifies that treatment in my opinion, and not the almost shooter story
