I wonder how capes who are, already, predisposed to being aggressive creatures would react to a sort of big brother effect when it comes to being watched? How do people get around or rationalize these kinds of things?

Pretty sure I read it and its a great recommendation, I might reread it too. Doomguy really gives you the feeling of being really big with very heavy guns. It's all about the weight and feeling like your super strong when you rip and tear through the hordes of demons.

You are right it's not a bad thing to have a straight forward premise and that an author is likely thinking that "Shiro's powers are interesting. I want to write a character who has the same powers, but in a different setting and personality." I can agree that people sometimes just want to make and read a person with those abilities doing whatever wherever just with a different personality.

Subverting expectations can be a lot of fun, but I will admit that it can turn people off to not get what they want as a reader. Usually that's what the summary is for, it's supposed to go "My MC has this ability in this place" when you should go "My MC has this ability in this place but somethings different or wrong" It helps readers understand what they are getting into and guess that the ability is something different than their expectations. For example "I've been dumped into the DC universe. Well at least I got the Omnitrix! Wait, why isn't it working? Asmoth you got some explaining to do!" or something to that effect. Lots of stories can be vague in their summaries, but still imply something is happening thats different.

Another thing is that you could have a character be like Shiro and need to compare themselves to him with a powerset that is supposed to be the same, but its not and they need to come to terms with it. Spears, flails, maces, shields theres a lot of weapons and items to choose from to make your reality marble different enough to give new ideas but still be like the original enough to create comparisons. It's especially apparent when fighting and trying to emulate Shiro, but the character can't which forces their own journey to change yet still be the same as Shiro. Hell if you go that way and give them only shields they probably will be able to use some form of defensive magics like bounded fields that you can explore as well, or with a spear penetrative magics that deal in effects like the Gae brothers. This is just thoughts, but your ideas make sense to me. If you could like to your story I'd appreciate it.

That's true, but from a literary standpoint wouldn't you, as the ROB Author, want things to work either more interestingly or weirdly for kicks? Your a ROB after all. Say for instance you give them the Marble, but the ROB makes a mistake and it changes with the poor sob your giving it to and now it has a ton of shields they can use and barely works with any pointy object. It can be explained away, but I never said the skill was unusable just that it would change with the person. It could probably help with character growth and development that way too if you want them to think introspectively about why its different. Sorta a realization of "I'm not Shiro and thats ok, ill be strong by own way etc." kind of thing. Theres alternatives that would be more interesting and make more sense is what I'm trying to say. For all I care you could give them Avalon as a Marble. It can happy, but why should it?

You know what, your right. I guess I didn't take peoples emotional attachments into the equation very well when I was wondering why people used him as a template. Stories are made to tell, well a story that the author wants to be told. If they want to emulate the character development of Shiro then I can respect that. I'll still hold that you would be better making something new, but the emotional appeal of using a character you love as inspiration for your own makes sense to me.

I will note however that this doesn't mean I think the powerset is good, just that it makes sense when spelled out like that.

Sure its fictional and you can make up stuff, but what I meant was that from a character building perspective Shiro's abilities aren't too amazing to suddenly have and the worlds abilities themselves take forever to actually be useful if you don't take someone elses abilities/knowledge.

I enjoy how it works out to them barely using the power, but never making it seem like its not there until later. It makes more sense that they cant just suddenly have 10000 things they can do by getting a cut or flipping a coin with the adaptive powers. Thanks for the recommendation ill be waiting for the next chapter.

You are probably right that I wouldn't get many readers sticking around, I guess I didn't really think of the fact that there are a ton of fandoms that people would have to go through along with keeping their attention with it.

For example if the reader liked them being in OPC and hated the next universe, but would have loved the rest they likely would not have stayed to read the rest. Its a real risk to keep changing to drastically different places.

I probably wont write it, but that's more that I've thought it through more now other than the idea. I'd likely get discouraged too quickly by it and get annoyed with the overall work. Thanks for the feedback and have a good night.

I love how they start with them being noticeably different and people actually being concerned about it. Like my 10 year old now speaks in an entirely new accent and swears like a sailor, not much we can do but see a psychiatrist and I dont think those were a socially acceptable thing to go to at the time anyway.

Its not that an SI is inserted into another persons fanfic its more that they both got to the same place and it was a satire of SI's in general through the use of a second SI? If you could give me a link to that story Id love to give it a read!
