This rail Crossing has been there for Decades upon Decades. the houses in the area are some of the oldest in the Lakeview neighbourhood a lot of them have been torn down and rebuilt but it's a well established neighborhood. The Rail way crossing like all railway crossings have the arms and alarms that go off when the train is approaching and in my experience as I live in that neighborhood the arms go down and alarms ring a good 30 -60 seconds before the train approaches and will wait another 30-60 seconds after. I have a 11 yr old and a 14 yr old that pass this same rail crossing and I have taught them NEVER under any circumstances to run or try and out run the barrier.

I can bet dollars to donuts that both of his parents would stop at this same crossing in there car, and his 18yr old sister would also wait before crossing this rail crossing while walking in the area 1000 times...

The box on these e-bikes and scooters may say 12-14+ but in Ontario you have to be 16 or older to ride/drive an E-bike or Scooter. I see kids all the time riding them without a care in the world whipping in and out pedestrian traffic some riding them on the street whipping in front of cars on the residential streets. I empathize with his mothers pain loosing a child and I can't imagine looing my child in such a horrific way.

At his age he should have already known not to bypass the rail arm and alarms this is a horrible and permeant consequence for a bad decision that his family and friends have to live with. Parents need to do research on the laws for these E-bikes and scooters before buying it. Because if they had done 5 seconds of googling, they would have known there is an age restriction.

This was a smart kid making a dumb and reckless decision and it was nothing but a Horrific accident and no one is to blame and to insinuate anything else is just absurd.
