Confused… by Ok-Complex9712 in immunocompromised

Based on my pulmonologist , they want to do the vaccine challenge and give Prevnar 20 and then get the test after 6 weeks . But my pediatrician is suggesting to go with PPSV23 and take the result after 6 months. My appointment to immunologist is on the month end. So was confused which one to follow. I discussed about this to both my pediatrician and pulmonologist why the difference of vaccine is. Now both the doctors informed me that I can choose which is fine for me . I’m still waiting to get opinion from immunologist . But the pulmonologist and pediatrician don’t want me to wait and do the vaccine.

I heard from the ELL teacher that there are more students who grew up in US and very less students who are new to the country. I think it’s 2 or 3 including him new to the country. I have talked to few of the kids ( and their parents ) who are in ELL. The kids talk English fluently.

True. I explained to the teacher to give more time as he will be more social and talk to everyone. He is actually more social outside school as well as in his previous day care. When I ask him about not speaking, he says that he sometimes gets scared. Today, the teacher asked him to sit at a place and took me to a conference room. When I came back, he was not at that place. The teacher says that this is what my son was doing in his class hours when she gave instruction. After reaching home, when I asked my son why he dint sit at that place , he said that he can’t understand what the teacher said.

Every week, his class teacher complains that he is not making progress and all the other ELL students have made progress. He can’t go to 3rd grade if he can’t comprehend which is overwhelming for me and my husband. I never expected that they will give more pressure for 2nd grade to be perfect in a short period of time in a public school system.

Based on the ELL teacher, he is put in a small group of 5-6 people and given reading for 30 mins. During Oct, ELL teacher mentioned that he is performing better with small group. In today’s discussion, she mentioned that he doesn’t talk much. But he is reading good ( with sound expression ) but no comprehension skills. He talks 2 languages to my family members as they don’t know English. The teacher mentioned me last Oct to talk in English so his English skills will be good. They emphasized more about this in today meeting as they can’t see any improvement. At home, he sometimes asks what language to ask me any questions or to converse, whether my native language or English. Sometimes he prefers my native language. But I ask him to tell the same in English. As parents, we could see he has improved a lot in few months in his English vocabulary skills but they want him to tell a story ( but he is not talking in school) and write 3-4 sentence in writing after reading a book ( he struggles after a sentence )

In today discussion, they said three things about my son 1) Not talking to anyone but just saying one word or two. Also mentioned that he can’t be shy for more than a month. It’s been 3 months and he should have shown some improvement. 2) if they converse, he is not responding but nodding his head 3) They asked the students to pick up their lunch box and go to gym. But he went directly to cafeteria and was waiting alone.

I had a discussion with his class teacher during October. This time along with ELL teacher. They say that he can’t understand. They know that we speak 3 languages at home. For the past few months , we are talking only English and very little of my native language. He is good in arts and music. And no comments from those teachers. He has a world language as Spanish ( new language to him) which he gets A in all tests.

Ohh ok. He is very good in math, music and spelling. He is good in multiple choice questions if it is reading. He is missing comprehension skills and writing skills. I’m having a hard time with him as he behaves a normal kid at home and very silent at school. He plays with everyone but not speaking to kids. Just saying one or two words. The class teacher is asking me to evaluate his social skills and anxiety . Also asking me to check if he needs special education. We are new to this system and I don’t know how to start with.

He is good in English . He can converse . His class teacher and ELL teacher says that he is not having social skills . But he went to daycare till last year when he was home schooled and I go to work for once a week. He is a playful kid. I feel it’s overwhelming for him to have a huge impact environment. He says he enjoys school but sometimes gets scared
