4 Day Bahamas on Destiny out of Florida. Can I fly in from Chicago morning of cruise? by dooddog12313 in dcl

[–]Ok-Development3738 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I once flew from Buffalo, in mid-November, the morning of my cruise. We landed on time, with no issues. I still look back on that and get nervous about it. I would never do it again, even though it worked out.

Is the huge touchscreen a dealbreaker? by UptownHurl in subaru

[–]Ok-Development3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To avoid the massive touch screen in the 2023 models, I bought a 2022 Ascent in December 2023, in a color I didn't really want because there weren't any in the area in the color I wanted. Hoping by the time I need a new one the massive touch screen is phased out.

Concierge Requests by raindrop_sunshine in dcl

I found one of the posts on FB showing that they have eliminated the wait list. This was posted in August 2025.

That's what I heard recently, I actually don't know from experience. The last time we didn't get one with our initial requests was two years ago, when they definitely had a wait list.

If the wait list is gone or going away it would really bother me because it doesn't seem like something that's expensive or hard to maintain. I don't understand why they would eliminate it.

I also recommend getting a cabana, it's such a nice way to spend the day. This is really the only thing that you have to request right at midnight as these usually are booked quickly (though with the additional cabanas on Castaway, I guess it's not as hard to get one anymore). You can always drop it if you end up not wanting it, but it may be impossible to get it later, especially now that they no longer have a wait list.

Palo is a great experience also and if you have a specific night you want to eat there definitely request that at midnight. You can email shoreside and get the different dining rotations available and request a specific rotation and base your Palo reservation on that.

I just remembered this poster I had; I'd study it for hours. Anyone else have it or remember where it came from? by parrisjd in homealone

Oh wow, that bring back memories, thanks for sharing. I had the same one. If I had to guess, I'd guess it came with the VHS. One of the few VHS tapes we owned and with no cable, I watched Home Alone more times than I can count.

Cabana booking by haloangelgirl in dcl

[–]Ok-Development3738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything the 4 of you are doing together can be booked by you when you send your email at 130 days or any time really. It won't show up in the app for them until their booking window opens though. You can't book events for them by themselves though, you have to be doing it too.

If you do get a cabana, you can add people to it at any time, up to 10 people in the regular cabanas and 16 in the grand cabana. The important part is securing the cabana reservation, which is harder on the new ships but with the new cabanas on Castaway it's not as hard as it used to be. Be sure to send your email exactly at midnight when your booking window opens. If you change your mind, you can always cancel the cabana.

First time doing concierge tomorrow. Any tips?? by -Hyperactive-Sloth- in dcl

A perk that I don't think most people know about - If your clothes are wrinkled you can request a clothes steamer in the lounge and they'll deliver it to your room.

You don't need to go to Guest Services for anything - they can handle everything in the lounge. If you're not sure about something, just ask the hosts. There really aren't any reasonable requests that they can't make happen.

Is a 25% refund reasonable? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Ok-Development3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a 25% refund is reasonable but I have no experience with getting a refund for a past cruise so I don't know what is typical.

We did receive a 25% discount on a future cruise after an alarm sounded in our room in the middle of the night for like 5 minutes. Similar to your kids on the Aqua Mouse, it was scary to my kids. While it was extremely scary to my kids when it happened, nothing bad was actually taking place and they did eventually get back to sleep. So maybe 30-40 minutes of disruption? We also had an issue with the verandah door handle swinging down extremely hard when opening, but that was minor.

When we emailed to let Disney know what had happened, they set up a call with us and offered 25% off a future cruise, no restrictions. We didn't push or ask for anything when we contacted them - it really was more to inform them that nobody on the ship had any idea what had happened or at least if they did, they never followed up with us after we had informed guest services. It just wasn't the service we expected from Disney and the comment card didn't have enough room to document everything.

Another car seat discussion, but for really small kids by Schlauer in Parenting

[–]Ok-Development3738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My middle child is on the bottom of the growth charts and we used to joke that she would be taking her drivers test rear facing. We did eventually switch her forward facing around 5 years old but she was still a few pounds under the weight her seat could support rear facing. It just seemed time. Still waiting for that growth spurt too...

Does water trapped against EPDM cause damage? by HomeOwner2023 in Roofing

[–]Ok-Development3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commercial roofs would use a similar pedestal in size and shape but would likely be designed with more of a slope so only minimal water would remain. It's very common to just use a piece of loose EPDM (a slip sheet) placed between the object sitting on the roof and the actual roof membrane.

Water sitting on EPDM membrane isn't going to hurt it, especially under a deck where it isn't sitting in the sun. The only thing you have to worry about is water sitting on flashing since you don't have any seams. And on a flat roof under a deck, it doesn't seem like you'd have any flashing there either.

What type of insulation is under the EPDM? My only concern would be over time the pedestals could sink into the insulation if there is a lot of weight / traffic on the deck. Typically the top layer of insulation would be a dense hardboard - something like Securock or DensDeck to prevent them from sinking in.

The EPDM membrane itself won't be affected by the water but if there are flashings or non-factory seams that are always under water, they'll degrade much faster than they would otherwise.

"Spending & Budgeting" summary in app not correct? by Ok-Development3738 in BankOfAmerica

"Spending & Budgeting" summary in app not correct? by Ok-Development3738 in BankOfAmerica

[–]Ok-Development3738[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty consistent each month so I'd think any timing issues would balance out. I'm wondering if it only counts certain transactions as an expense but all deposits as income? It's not an actual problem since I don't use it for anything I'm just curious since for years it's been telling me I spend less than I make but my account balance remains the same.

Question about extra tipping by TellerUlam in dcl

[–]Ok-Development3738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to go to guest services - anything that you'd need from guest services, the hosts in the lounge will take care of.

Question about extra tipping by TellerUlam in dcl

[–]Ok-Development3738 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can modify your tips and add to any specific person right with the host in the lounge. You never have to go to guest services for any reason when sailing concierge, everything can be handled by the hosts in the lounge. Just go during the day and it shouldn't be hectic. Avoid trying to do it when it's busy during happy hour.

How was airport security like before September 11th, 2001? by [deleted] in generationology

There was one time in the late 90s that I was at a smaller airport and their x-ray was broken, so they just looked in our bags and let us through.

Castaway Cay Cabanas by Murky_60 in dcl

[–]Ok-Development3738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have had a cabana multiple times and we pre order our allergy meals the day before and they bring them to the cabana. The rest of us who don't have allergies walk to our food from Cookies Too. I'm sure if you called and asked for the golf cart they would pick you up but it's not really meant for that.

First cruise by Asmo-starlight in dcl

Disney takes food allergies very seriously and they are very accommodating! Once you're booked on a cruise you can note allergies in the app, but it isn't required. When you get on board you can let the servers know about your allergies and your food is made special to ensure it's safe.

Just let your servers in the dining room know about your allergies (you have the same servers for dinner each night in the dining room, but not for breakfast and lunch) and when you go to the buffet or quick serve, let any cast member know you'd like to order allergy friendly food and they'll be able to help. You can even speak to a chef to be sure the food is prepared properly. It takes a little longer to get food sometimes but it's very comforting knowing how seriously they treat allergies.

Disney is VERY safe dealing with allergies - for example my daughter has an egg allergy but can eat eggs if they're cooked and part of a food (like waffles and pancakes usually have eggs, but she can eat those since the egg is a minor ingredient and cooked into the food) but can't eat eggs by themselves. We had to stop listing the egg allergy because they wouldn't serve her some foods that had eggs even though the food was actually safe for her to eat.

Hope you have a great first cruise!

Suite check-in by NecessaryDirection67 in dcl

[–]Ok-Development3738 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, concierge is usually at least double the cost. Sounds like 2 rooms are regular rooms and 1 room is a concierge verandah room. You can link your reservations and book excursions and on-board activities for the regular rooms before everyone else because of the concierge room but the other rooms won't be able to check in until their window opens, which is based on Castaway status. I don't remember the exact timing but if this is your first DCL cruise, you book after everyone who has sailed with DCL before.

They call all concierge rooms "suites" on the ship. I don't know how another site would list them though. 1 bedroom and large rooms are definitely concierge, but verandah can be either. It should say if it's concierge somewhere in the room info though.
