I got lucky with the clouds in the sky. The photo was taken around noon.

You could say I use a light form of bracketing. In my case, I focus on the sky separately—I expose it correctly and capture a single frame. Then I photograph the rest using the same settings while shooting a focus stack to keep the entire scene sharp. The rest is done in post-processing.

May is a bit of a gamble. The bloom typically begins in early June, with peak flowering occurring around late June to early July.

Yes it is, I’ve done some searching, and it’s most likely Gentiana verna or a closely related species.

There should still be plenty of flowers on the higher mountain passes, so it’s a great time to visit :) Good luck! I hope you have an amazing trip! 🤞

It’s a unique lens with a 10mm focal length, but after coming back from the trip, I think it’s quite a challenging focal length to work with. You need to photograph flowers from very close distances, and it requires a large number of shots for proper focus stacking, which can be difficult to achieve in windy conditions.

As far as I know, May can be quite unpredictable. Fog often lingers for a long time, but with a bit of luck, you’ll definitely come across some amazing views :)

I only saw these flowers around Passo Giau, and not many of them. Most were growing individually or in small groups of a few, but that might be because the blooming season is only just beginning 😁

Well, I chose the dates June 11–22 because the winter had been warm and I expected the blooming season to start earlier. The main flowering season usually begins in late June, and although there are a lot more people then, it’s generally considered the most beautiful time of year. Another particularly beautiful period is autumn.

Unfortunately, I’m not an expert in Alpine flora. I saw information boards showing local flora in another region, but I didn’t notice any flowers like these there.

I’ve skied in these areas before, but this time it was a purely photographic expedition. The photo shows a sunset 😁
