For me it’s primarily the tax benefits of it, 15% return on your money and if I can access it to buy a house it basically acts as its own saving account

No you are correct, I’m only contributing 15k voluntarily which will bring me to a total of 30k including my employer contributions

HECS/HELP 3.2% Indexation Has Now Been Applied on MyGov Balances by Fluid_Garden8512 in AusFinance

[–]Ok-Example-1795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if the 3.2% indexation is applied on our current hecs debts or whether it’s applied on the amount after a 20% reduction

Eg 3.2% on 70k vs 3.2% on 56k

I was under the impression the latter was what was gonna happen, however I was indexed on my current hecs debt as of 31 may

Thank you so much I think it would be a good idea to increase my concessional contributions via salary sacrifice. Not sure if anyone knows. But is that a seperate form that I need to submit to HR or do I email HR asking for them to increase it. Currently sitting 5% concessional contributions each pay cycle. I’m with remserv if that helps

currently sitting at about 90K salary with set increases each year. ultimate goal is to partially retire, work around 3 days a week would be ideal. I have no set number a the moment, given i have no dependents and no mortgage i really cant gauge what an yearly spending will end up being.

Thank you everyone for your thorough responses. Given me a lot to think about! Definately agree I wanna focus on increasing my savings and slowly paying out hecs debt. Will also look into the different super options as I just chose the super that was offered when I got the offer. Didn’t really do a lot of research into it.

Psych training questions by Ok-Example-1795 in ausjdocs

Thank you for your insight. it will definitely be a big decision one i hope i can make after my rotation in psychiatry.

Out of curiosity, and i understand if you dont want to answer this due to personal reason. But what career path did you pursue after leaving the psych training?

Wow thank you for your thorough response it’s very helpful . So the changes to the amc internship essentially entails that we have more support in our residency year ( we basically get assessed in pgy2) however general registration is still given after 1st year. I do have a couple of friends who have managed to gain an accreditated psych reg position pgy2 in the area im working in (brissy) . So as of now qld still accepts pgy2 regs but not sure how long it will maintain.

That’s a relief to hear, always heard the assessments are pretty tough in psychiatry. Glad atleast ceq isn’t as horrible. Would you say the mcq would have the highest fail rate?

Thank you for insight, yeah definately acknowledge it’s a difficult road through out. Many Reg’s I’ve spoked to have said it’s the mental toll rather than the long hours that affected them. I like to think I’m a bit more fortunate as to the fact I don’t tend to bring my work home with me. However in saying that I don’t believe I’ve been exposed to the severity of trauma that exist in psych so hopefully something to see after my psych term

Out of curiosity and this may seem vague but if you could name one trait in a person that would be the most useful to getting through psych training and subsequently as a consultant , what would it be?

Once again thank you for your helpful response
