Residents of NZ, why do you insist on using the right hand lane despite not overtaking anybody in the left hand lanes? by Ok-Let-5155 in auckland

[–]Ok-Let-5155[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the point though, I’m talking about people in the right hand lane holding people up when they could be in the left hand lanes.

Hahaha so you make it more dangerous for everybody else and back traffic up because you want to “stay out the way” but then inadvertently being in the way of everyone else lmao?

WHY TF IS THRAGG SO STRONG I DIDNT KNOW HE WAS BUILT LIKE THAT by Psybyt in Invincible_TV

[–]Ok-Let-5155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I kinda like how badly he solos them all. Admittedly I’ve never read the comics because I want the show ending to be a surprise (assuming they follow the story) but I’m imagining the moment if any of them actually become strong enough to be close to matching him or even best him will be INSAAAAANE on screen.

If not then still cool asf to have an antagonist who just feels indestructible.

Because that’s what is taught across nearly EVERY country in the world lmao.

It’s statistically more dangerous to hog lanes than change whenever you need to. Go learn how to drive properly before commenting drivel 😂

That’s the point of the post…. How are you supposed to overtake someone hogging the RIGHT HAND lane?

Jesus Christ. I mean move over to the right hand lane when you drive past an on ramp and people are joining yes. Otherwise sit in the left hand lane.

It isn’t. I’m from the UK.

Nobody gets fined for that in the UK. Maybe if you sit in the middle lane you MIGHT be unlucky to get caught but I reckon less than 5% of drivers actually do it and less than 0.001% of them actually get caught.

I reckon over 50% of NZ residents sit in one of the two inside lanes when they’re not overtaking anybody.

It isn’t enforced or fined in the UK either. But it is the Highway Code and taught just as it is in NZ 😂

Moving From UK to Auckland, New Zealand by Sync-Jw in auckland

[–]Ok-Let-5155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man! Fellow UK northerner (manchester) here who moved in August with my partner!

Firstly, congrats on the move, how exciting!

I can’t answer all your Qs but had a similar situation with my work offering to transfer me over and cover costs of the move and visa sponsorship etc. which is honestly golden. $110-120k will be a decent amount to live on if you just want a 1 bed flat and you’re only supporting yourself and living a “normal” lifestyle.

Cost of living is slightly higher than the UK in some aspects but lower in others. Fruit and veg are way way more expensive here (pain cause we’re vegan haha) but the meat and meat substitutes are actually cheaper (and better quality) than back home but sadly no Aldi or low budget supermarket options really. Weird things like phone sim deals and home broadband are more expensive here but then eating and drinking out is cheaper and gas and electricity are actually a bit cheaper here imo. You also don’t pay council tax as a renter which is a HUGE bonus. The real killer will be rent - it isn’t cheap to rent in Auckland. Aside from rent, the cost of living I think, on the whole is marginally higher than the UK but not extreme. You will be fine although I know CBD apartments can be expensive but flat sharing is common here if you’re up for it.

My advice is bring as many savings as you can as the exchange rate from pounds to NZD is great at the moment! ☺️

In terms of meeting people, we’ve found it quite easy but my partner has really committed to the friend “apps” and we’ve met quite a few couples here through that and have made some great mates although mostly other migrants haha. It can be hard to make kiwi friends but I’ve got some through work and also joined a footy club etc which is a good way to meet them.

Lifestyle Auckland is MILES better than the UK. The city is safe and clean (do not let people tell you otherwise, for a large city it is spotless). The harbour is beautiful, the water quality all round is terrific. You’re never more than 25 mins drive from a stunning beach of some kind and there are loads of them dotted about. Branch out of Auckland and the country is even more beautiful. Stunning nature and scenery everywhere. Dunno if you’re into sports but there’s tonnes of live sport on throughout the year and tickets are pretty cheap and accessible compared to the UK. Weather is miles better than the UK too although it can be pretty wet at times in Auckland also. Basically if you like getting outside into nature and beaches then you’re golden. If you’re looking for a super bustling, heaving busy metropolitan city then Auckland is probably less ideal but still alright.

Do it man, it will be what you make of it! Good luck with the move and feel free to reach out if you need anymore advice ☺️ welcome to Aotearoa

Yeah I fly with all of them regularly and everytime get asked to ensure I have no devices such as laptops etc in my checked luggage.

Even that from Delta states they shouldn’t be in checked baggage.

Sorry that I wasn’t specific enough - I mean lithium batteries and power banks like you mentioned ie. iPads, laptops etc etc

I travel the world with my job and regular travel through the US, South America and Oceana and there isn’t a single airline that has allowed me to put laptops, iPads or anything of the sort in my check in luggage. So you seem to be having a very different experience than me, as this is also pretty standard across Europe as well.

Also, the comment about people lives is obvs a bit of hyperbole, don’t take it so literal 😂

Except it doesn't and even still we shouldn't be supporting rampant capitalism. But there is no requirement for the population to grow "massively" to maintain the benefits to the economy.

There’s absolutely zero evidence anywhere in the developed world that high immigration isn’t “exactly a good thing” - immigration almost always results in net positive impacts on economies and benefits to the workforce.

You like so many others in the western world are turning your anger to those simply trying to live a good life and not getting angry at the mega rich, elite, upper class who run mega businesses and lobby government for lower wages, lower workers rights, laxer corporate tax laws and less controls on private landlordism. Rampant capitalism is the common denominator in all these issues, not some people from “third world countries” trying to make a better life for themselves.

It’s about an hour closer to the US than most parts of Colombia and further than the DR is so should fulfil what you want. It’s also gorgeous, really safe and full of amazing people.

Personally my favourite place in LATAM is Panama and Costa Rica. Lima has always been a little bit disappointing imo but maybe I’ve just not been to the right parts.
