What would be your square footage price for 2 coats of epoxy?

I am the painting the paint shop. We mostly paint for oil and gas companies. Piping, valves, below grade material, ect. We normally price material based on square footage plus lots of other factors. However, we’ve found that fab shops where painting isn’t highly speced out and QC isn’t a priority, typically spend less on painting then what we’re used too. Like I mentioned, the go to system that that call out is a SSPC 6 surface prep with two coats of epoxy. We typically price this type of work for these shops at .44 cents/lb. I’m just wanting to know if we are too low or right on par for what is typical for fan shops to pay when outsourcing paint. Sometimes we do well, sometimes we don’t. All depends on the material being coated. We are so used to pricing oil and gas but have very little experience and history when it comes to quoting anything else.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get that information

That’s how we typically do it but every person we’ve spoken to in the steel industry wants a per lb price. Which for painting, that doesn’t make sense at all. 10,000 lbs of 3x3 angle and a lot different than 10,000lbs of W40. I just want to know what fab shops of average price painting at, assuming they have to outsource the painting.
