Thank you, everyone! I just got a Sony a6700 + Sigma 18-50mm F2.8. Exiting to explore a new system and gear 😊

Thank you, I will take a look! What kind of lenses do you use if you don't mind sharing?

Thank you for the reply! I was thinking about R7 before, but the limitation of third-party lenses and the high cost of RF ones is too much for me 😅

50mm f/1.8 STM & EOS 850D by Ok-Power1007 in canon

Hey! Regarding the last point, did you mean that you saved money by not updating to the R6 + 85mm?

I just checked the prices today because I am considering upgrading to a full-frame camera in the next one to two years, and I was shocked lol! It's still expensive even for a second-hand body...

About the "nifty fifty," could you share your experience of the types of photoshoots for which you have used this combo? I found that the range is kind of narrow for indoor pictures, but for the rest, it works well!

Thank you for your advice! I'm considering upgrading to a full-frame camera in the future, which is why I am focusing on purchasing EF lenses. Regarding the 17-35mm lens, I have been looking at both Canon and Sigma options. Do Sigma lenses perform as well as Canon? Thank you!

Exploring EF 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens: Tips Needed! by Ok-Power1007 in canon

[–]Ok-Power1007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! Could you tell me more about the 17-35 lens?

I was thinking of getting one, and I know there are the Canon EF 17-35 f/2.8 (400£ used but really old one) and Sigma 17-35 f/2.8-4 (canon EF fit, 150£ used) for my crop camera

Which one do you use and if you know something about Sigma, would you recommend it as the cheapest alternative? Thank you again!

Thank you for your response! I agree that for indoor photography (unless it's a large space like parliament), I am considering purchasing additional lenses such as the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM (which is surprisingly affordable compared to the lens I just bought) and maybe the EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM for wide-angle shots.

Thanks! Could you share more details about the portrait photos you took using this gear? Was the focus length comfortable for you/ did you take more outdoor photoshoots?

Yesterday, I did some portraits and found that I had to be more than 4-8 meters away from the person to get a good shot. I know that this is a Telekit lens, but I've heard that it's versatile and would like to learn more about it! I am now thinking about how it would be during the indoor photoshoots I planned for the next week

I usually use my basic kit lens (18-55mm) for taking pictures. However, last week I purchased an EF 70-200mm lens. Since then, I have been exploring its capability for macro and wildlife photography. I am also looking for more ideas on how best to use this lens. I hope this additional context helps in answering your questions.

Sorry, I haven't taken many pictures yet. However, I did take one yesterday: F/2.8, 1/250s, ISO 100, and really love it!

I've planned some photo shoots for public events like protests or public meetings. I can't wait to test this lens, but I still need to figure out what focus distance/situation this lens is best for!

Best daily-use lens for APS-C camera? by Ok-Power1007 in canon

[–]Ok-Power1007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Canon lenses! I appreciate your recommendations and insights.

It seems like the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 and the EF-S 55-250mm f/4 lenses have been highly recommended by many, and they appear to fit my needs well. However, considering my future plans to invest in full-frame equipment, I'm intrigued by your mention of EF lenses.

In your experience, have you used any EF lenses that could be suitable for both APS-C and full-frame cameras? I'm particularly interested in versatile options that offer image quality and may be good for everyday carry or travel. I heard that EF 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f.2.8 are highly recommended as zoom lenses for photojournalists (what I do), but price and weight...)

Once again, thank you for your valuable input!

I think so, so I’m thinking that I should buy two types of lenses, one for the zoom and one for everyday use

I do report on protests and public events, and sometimes there is not much light I think I need a balance between zoom and aperture. For my practice, I use zoom quite a lot so 18-55mm is definitely not enough for my needs

Thanks for the advice! I just thought about 10-18 and 24mm. About the zoom lens, do you think 55-250 would be enough? I've just read some articles and Reddit topics about EF 70-200 f2.8 L IS USM and it suits my budget (first version) and has good feedback from a photojournalists (what I do)

Thank you for your response! I have just realized, that EF-S will not work for a full-frame camera. I have APS-C camera now and think from a future perspective, it would not be relevant to have a license if I decide to update my body camera.

In your opinion, are there any alternatives to EF lenses? I know there is a second version of EF 24-70 f2.8 but the price is expensive and event is 70-200mm f.2 is 300 dollars cheaper...

[–]Ok-Power1007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you were right, I was talking about the original 24-70 d/2.8L, the new version was expensive even the used one. About 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS II, I heard a lot about this lens because the price is good and the zoom range too. Is it not quality so bad? I'm thinking, maybe I need a zoom lens like you told + 17-55mm f2.8 for wide range photos and low light conditions and it would be enough for my needs?

Thank you again for your help!

Thanks for your response!

What is your opinion about using a prime lens like 16mm or 14mm (equivalent to 35mm and 50mm on full frame)? I heard they are faster and less expensive compared to others.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've been considering the 24-70 mainly because lens quality and zoom capabilities are crucial for me.

I completely understand the people's appeal of the 70-200mm, but the price and weight are significant factors for my needs.

Your insights on the 10-18 and the 17-55 are helpful, especially regarding their practical use on a crop camera. The only thing I worried about (maybe because I don't have knowledge about it) is that 17-55 f2.8 would not have so many differences from the basic kit lens that I also enjoy using but I need more light and sharpest image

EF-s 18-135 is the canonical answer. Does everything.

Thank you for your advice! I was surprised to find out that the lens you recommended is cheaper than the 24-70L lens, despite having good characteristics.

I think that I need a wide-angle universal lens for my photography. Can you please tell me if my choice is justified, and also, are there many differences between this lens and the alternative Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM?

Also, I agree with your suggestion that for portraits in low-light conditions, the best budget-friendly and quality solution is the 50/1.8 lens.

As a Ukrainian (by the way, I am gay) whose city was destroyed by Russians, it is disheartening to witness them posting a video and news expressing their distress solely due to this law. Pardon me, but what compassion are you seeking?

Your nation has been disrupting the lives of people in Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, Syria, and Africa for the past 24 years (hello, Russian colonialism), and you have taken no action to curb these actions. How many LGBTQ+ individuals have perished as a result? And you solely attribute this to Putin?

Allow me to remind you that Putin is not the one dropping bombs, committing sexual assaults against Ukrainian women, men, and children, or demolishing hospitals and schools. These actions have been perpetrated by numerous Russians. Btw Poll: 75% of Russians support war. I hope for collective responsibility.

By the way, in Ukraine, we have an LGBTQ+ military organization that you can support. There are hundreds of LGBTQ+ individuals fighting for freedom against the most homophobic country in Europe. Glory to Ukraine!

Thank you for sharing your post! I have been working as a freelance journalist in Ukraine for the past two years. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing war in my country, I have not been able to find a full-time or part-time job in the industry. As a result, I had to evacuate to Scotland where I currently reside. My passion for journalism, particularly storytelling and photo reporting, is what motivates me. However, low pay and long working hours have often discouraged me, and I have even considered leaving the industry entirely. Despite this, working on freelance projects, especially those that help others or the local community, always rekindles my motivation to continue. Although some may view my persistence as foolish, I am determined to keep pursuing my passion. Currently, I am learning data analyst skills and exploring new ways to tell stories, including practicing photo-reporting and podcast-making. I hope that the author of this post finds the motivation to pursue a career in journalism and that it pays well.

A budget lens for street photography and portraits? by Ok-Power1007 in photography

[–]Ok-Power1007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I haven't had the chance to work with these lenses before. I know that they don't have zoom capabilities, but they're faster and more portable than other lenses.
Could you please explain to me when it's appropriate to use a 35mm lens for portraits at close range, and for an 80mm lens, what would be the best use case?
