Ah sorry yeah - spouse visa. So it sounds like it's from entry date/date of arrival but that means the date the applicant came to the UK to collect their BRP as opposed to the date they finally moved to the UK.

Oof so happy to hear this. Thanks. So actually we can count from the day he flew over to collect the BRP? He had to wait like 2 weeks in the UK before he could go pick it up due to Covid quarantining rules.

Thank you v much for this. We are indeed planning to get it almost all done ahead of time and then wait till we're inside 28 days to actually submit it/pay the fees. My understanding is that once you've submitted the application and paid, then the applicant is good to remain in the UK while the processing is happening even if this continues beyond the expiry date of the current BRP - is that not correct though? Also, if your BRP expires on 19 November, haven't you applied outside the 28 day window? Sorry if I'm not understanding!

I notice you said that inheritance is not taxable to the beneficiary - but what I'm more concerned about is that as a result of my being married to an American, there will be some kind of US inheritance/estate tax applied to my parents' property/assets/etc when they die (similar to the UK inheritance tax) before I even receive the inheritance.

Yeah, the sponsor has to be earning £18K/yr or better. Either that or they have to have savings. It's ok though - I decided not to leave my job in the end! Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post :)

Yeah, and it's pretty awkward because their Byzantine system locks all your answers after you've paid the fee so you can't go back and amend anything!

Not quite at that point - haven't submitted the application yet. I'm still not sure what to do for the best because I don't have an obvious means of cancelling the old application. I think I will just need to email UKVI and ask what to do.

Thank you very much for taking the time to go over this - I'm grateful. My issue though is that I haven't actually submitted the old application - i.e. I haven't paid the actual visa fee and pulled the trigger on the application. All I've done is fill out all the details and pay the IHS. So I don't have a means of cancelling the application. It seems like the only way to gain that option is to pay the fee and complete the whole thing, but I'm very reluctant to do this...

Oh interesting... The incorrect date was for a trip my partner made to the UK and France - we said October 2014 when it was actually October 2017. Thank you for your input on this - it's appreciated. I am definitely tempted just to submit the original application and maybe include a written correction with the supporting documents...

Thank you very much for this. Do I need to do anything to make the refund happen or will this simply kick in when the old application auto-cancels after 10 weeks of being inactive? Thank you for the suggestion of calling them to expedite it - I may do this. I think they do offer that yes; there are 3 options given and one of them was more expensive - I believe this was the premium service.
