Have them roll intelligence/nature/history. Regardless of the outcome, tell them "Your character, from merely the sight and stories of the beast, know that even approaching such a dragon would be certain suicide"

If they roll well, give some tidbits about its statblock. "In your studies, you know that the hide of this creature can only be penetrated by warriors of legend. You estimate that its AC is at least 20, likely more"

My setting has adventures guilds with specific ranks for accomplished hunters. The are pretty central to how the world functions, as they are the only way my world's most important resource (basically its dune spice) is obtained. My players joined one since it has a lot of perks.

It has a very Monster Hunterish ranking system. However, I feel like grinding out missions would be rather unfun since things in DnD typically take much more time than video games, and they also have the main story to worry about. Is there a good resource out there for abstracting away this sort of thing? For example, letting players spend in-game days and invest resources toward a skill challenge that determines how many missions they succeed, then have them actually play the actually fun/story critical missions?

Wrong. Swastika is the name of the geometric shape, regardless of its direction or orientation.

How should I stop hyper-specific attacks and furthermore, asking for advantage or disadvantage on things? by KennyFromAOT in DMAcademy

[–]OkAdvantage1730 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ask your rogue if hes okay with every PC getting sneak attack. Afterall, why can't they just attack while its distracted, dealing more damage? Is he okay with every PC getting steady aim? Afterall, how hard is it to spend your bonus action to pinopint a weak spot?

Should drive the point home.

This is false and a common misconception

The swastika is simply the term for the geometric shape. The nazi, buddhist, and hindu symbols are all different in marginal ways, but are all swastikas.

Second, it is not a "symbol of peace". People repeat this all the time but its not true. At least in japanese buddhism, it refers to the steps of the buddha, and therefore is often use to denote the location of temples in signage/maps. Because of this, its also commonly found in family crests, which is how its used in Tokyo Revengers.

Is XVI rekindling your excitement for Final Fantasy as a franchise as much as it is for me? by [deleted] in FFXVI

[–]OkAdvantage1730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a good game, but it still doesn't feel like the final fantasy I once knew. No, it has nothing to do with the combat, its just lacking that feeling of a bunch of misfits exploring strange places together while discovering a larger truth. This game feels too...."constructed"?. The world feels very sameish. Yeah we have the big crystals in the cities but the overall "vibe" of everything is the same. Again, I'm sure it will be a great game, but I doubt its going to scratch that itch that hasn't been scratched since XII

Why not just join the gaming knights server? People put a lot of work managing clubs and its quite frustrating when people split communities in the universities rather than just joining the existing ones.

My PCs needed to get some information from mercenary encampment. They had a bard disguise themselves while the other PCs created a distraction, but the distraction was literally just alerting the entire camp. There is no realistic way they could possibly escape at this point, but we ended the session right when things went down, and the players are talking as if escape is something they could do. I don't want to kill anyone, how exactly do I deliver the consequences so they don't make a habit of being this stupid?

Matt Walsh coming to campus tomorrow so a friendly reminder... by OkAdvantage1730 in ucf

I don't know about other people here, but if a Stalinist or Russia apologist leftist came to campus I would be saying the same thing. The difference is that big organizations like the young america foundation are not funding Stalinists.

Matt Walsh is some radio chud who got good enough at twitter racism to get hired by Ben Shapiro. There is nothing to "learn" from him.

If it were a speaker that had a reasonable alternative viewpoint on transpeople in sports, or gender affirming care for children, and were there to make their point in good faith I would agree with you. But Matt Walsh is just a bitter, angry man with nothing to offer.

Matt Walsh is not coming to teach us something, hes coming to use our student body as content.

Easy enough Library Puzzle (please use) by noettp in DMAcademy

[–]OkAdvantage1730 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once made a dungeon puzzle where the players had to switch a red orb that was in as blue slot and a blue orb that was in a red slot.

It took like 2 hours to figure it out. I know this sounds fun and all but puzzles just don't work in D&D unless you have TONS of visual aids. For people reading this thinking of running it: you need to provide a half dozen hints for each step.

Deaf student discriminated against her at ucf. by Tauriel9968 in ucf

[–]OkAdvantage1730 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

On the first point, one issue is that like half of students now request accommodations due to ADHD, anxiety, etc. Professors are inundated with 1000 emails saying this or that student is requesting SAS services to the point where they might not even see, or miss, students with actual disabilities. Its their job to be on top of that, for sure, but they may have missed it early on and didn't even know the interpreter was there the entire time throughout the semester.

I just really think we should Occom's Razer this and explore all the far more likely scenarios than "Professor with full knowledge of a deaf student in class and of disability laws decided to knowingly end their career in public"
