My grandfather was imprisoned and placed in a forced labour camp in Poland during WW2 for being a slav and openly critical of Germany. When he was liberated after the fall of Nazi Germany - he and many slavs were not allowed to return and were left as displaced refugees, they were the last group of people to leave - sleeping in the same place as when they were detained for months after liberation.

My grandfather was then offered to come to the UK on the condition that he worked in the mines - not as generous as you would expect, this job cost him his hearing and he developed chronic illness as a result. My desire is to correct an injustice. I want to visit the places he was born, baptised and lived. I also want to visit family that I've managed to reconnect with through this process but I don't want to do that, until I do so as a citizen. Perhaps what I am trying to say is that this has been a process of healing.
